Current Conditions in Japantown Long blocks and few crossing opportunities between residences and sites of interest on either side of Geary 18% of pedestrians at Webster in four hours crossed illegally at surface without crosswalk Two fatalities at Webster intersection since 2008 No ADA accessible crossing facility at Webster or Buchanan GEARY CORRIDOR BUS RAPID TRANSIT PROJECT UPDATE

Roadway Redesign through Japantown Benefits: Traffic calming and pedestrian safety between Scott and Gough streets Repurposing one traffic lane into a transit-only lane will prioritize transit and reduce speeding West of Scott: 3 lanes Scott to Gough streets: reduce 4 lanes to 3 lanes East of Gough: 3 lanes 10

New Surface Crossings at Webster and Steiner Benefits: Safer for those already crossing at surface Surface crossings reduce walking distance Median pedestrian refuges to create safe area for pedestrians ADA accessible crossing path at Webster Conceptual Proposal at Webster GEARY CORRIDOR BUS RAPID TRANSIT PROJECT UPDATE

New Crossing at Buchanan Benefits: New midblock signal will provide additional access point across Geary to/from Peace Plaza between Laguna and Webster Saves 1,050+ feet (4+ min) of walking Design includes large, protected median refuge for pedestrians Median refuge at Valencia/Market 12

Webster Pedestrian Bridge Removal Benefits: Allows for transit-only lane, which will: Improve reliability by avoiding traffic congestion Prevent 100 hours daily delay to riders Improves pedestrian safety by: Enabling wider, shorter east side crosswalk Eliminating pedestrian blind spots caused by bridge piers ADA accessible crossing at east side Opportunity to work with community to re-purpose land currently used for ramps Similar treatments proposed at Steiner to add eastside crosswalk and remove pedestrian bridge Conceptual Proposal at Webster 13
