Please join us! ****************************************************************************************************************** QUILTING This week January 30th we will have a continuation of the Stack & Whack we worked on last week. Carol (our instructor) wants to see something finished or further along than you were last week. We also have some who have never quilted before so we want to spend some time with them showing them what is involved with our craft! And hopefully we will have some more quilters in our group. On February 6th we will have a class on how to make a Grow Bag taught by Donna Schmidt, a former resident of Siesta Village. If you haven t signed up for that class and would be interested come to our meeting on Monday and we will get you signed up and give you information about it. And on February 27th & March 6th Andrea O Keefe will help us make a Mystery Quilt. Again if you haven t signed up come to the meeting and we will show you what the class is about and get you signed up if you are interested. We also set the date for our Challenge Reveal & potluck luncheon for March 20th before a lot of us head back home for the summer. Remember the challenge make a baby quilt or a lap size quilt using fabric from your stash if you don t have enough in your cupboard check out our cupboard in the Craft Room we have lots of odds & ends that could be made into a quilt these will be donation quilts and we will give them to a needy organization here in Weslaco. We meet every Monday afternoon at 1:00 PM in the Craft Room. This is with reserved seating. The dinner dance is February 2, 2017, a Thursday. There will be a brown bag raffle like last year as well as special raffles held that evening. Tickets are $11.00 each. There will be a catered Mexican meal. At this time we are still negotiating the meal but will be serving either enchiladas or tacos with rice, beans and ice cream cup for dessert. Doors will open at 5:00 p.m. and dinner served at 6:00 and Diego will play from 7:00 pm-10pm. Soft drinks will be available for purchase. At this time, we are asking for any donations for our bag auction which can be handed in to Sharon Klinkhammer, 3040 Azteca. Phone to arrange for pick up: 647-5377. The village residents did a fantastic job donating last year so let s see if we can make this a great success again this year. Maybe you had ancestors that were affiliated with the Orphan Train. Between 1854 and 1929 more than 200,000 children from the East Coast via the Orphan Train had to travel across America to be placed out into a new family and why children were homeless. Dorothy A. Lund Nelson will present the program "Orphan Train Riders American/Canadian" on Monday, February 13 at 1:30pm in the main hall. Admission is only $5.00 and includes cookies and coffee. The interactive presentation is sponsored the Ladies' Social Club. The public is invited to attend. Announcements: If anyone has a small wheel chair or a shower chair they would like to donate to the Hut, we would be very grateful. The Hut lends items such as crutches, walkers, canes, potty chairs, wheel chairs, and a couple of car seats for children to village residents. We are glad to help provide this service to our Village but sure could use another wheel chair and a shower chair.

*ANNUAL MEETING SAT., FEB 4 TH, 2017 Please remember the Annual Meeting this Saturday February 4th at 9AM. You may pick up your meeting packet and ballot by entering through the Pool Room into the All Purpose Room and from there into the Main Hall. You MUST wear your name badge and bring a pen or pencil to mark your ballot. This meeting will start at exactly 9AM. Monday Morning February 6th directly after the Social Board Meeting will be an Appreciation Brunch for the Village, in the Main Hall. Please stay for a few minutes and greet your Board of Directors. Thank You The Corporate Board Children s Protective Services If you stayed in hotels or motels en route to the Valley and tucked those unused toiletries in your luggage, they may be placed in the rectangular green plastic container in the corner of the Village Hall near the clipboards or dropped off at my home. I will sort them and deliver them to the Weslaco office of Children s Protective Services. CPS social workers give them to children and teens who are being placed in foster care. Please make sure that all bottle caps are firmly screwed on. Some of them actually played golf. John Beggs had the longest putt on # 9. Mark McGuire had closest to the pin on # 2 and three golfers had low score with a score of thirty three. They were, Scott Mitchel, Mark McGuire, and Dave Greeder. Pretty good scoring guys! I could score like that but I would have to stop on the 8th hole! Reported by Jim Major

LADIES GOLF: This past Tuesday, 1-24-2017, was 73* and sunny and very windy. But was a great day for golf. We had 17 ladies out and our game for the day was closest to the flag on hole # 7 from off the green. The winners were: Jean Karaba, Deb Unrau, Kay Kristjanson, Joyce Rich, and Shirley Steinmetz. No chip-ins. Birdies were made by Mona Nelson, Kay Kristjanson, Sharon Penner and Jan Brown. We had one fact to post- On Team 4, we had Sharon and Peggy, that had the same score and the same number of putts during the game. CANASTA 1-23-17 Winners Table: 1. Ladies Pool is every Monday around 9:30am-10am and Wednesdays at 9:30am. We welcome all ladies that would like to play. We have help available, if you are just getting started. Also, record number of 6 strikes in a row, won a free game and also won 1 money pot. Other free games won by Larry White (won 2), John Polreis, Dave G, and Craig Winchar. SHARON PENNER HAD A TURKEY!!! Dave G and Larry W also won money pots.
