Post 142 Pompano Beach American Legion News Sterling McClellan Post 142 ~ 171 SW 2nd Street ~ Pompano Beach, FL 33060 ~ 954-942-2448 Web Site: www.alpost142.com ~ E-mail: legion@alpost142.com February, 2014 Message from the Commander My Legion family, I m happy to report that our January s MASH BASH/USO show was very successful and well attended, fun was had by all. Again, thanks to those who work in the background who make it all happen. My volunteers/members of the month are the Marine Corps League, members and friends of our Post who installed our new lounge TVs, who worked their magic AGAIN, in time for playoff football. We now have in our function hall a Hi-Def 10 FOOT WIDE TV screen! There are those who share the potential of this addition for future hall functions. And again, at no cost to our Post! Both the lounge TVs and our new addition costs were provided by donations by those with vision and not just sight. Cost coverage hasn t been met yet. So, if you enjoy our new additions, please step-up and help out with a donation to our TV fund. Sunday, February 9th at 2:00pm we ll be having a Fish Fry. Proceeds will benefit our Honor Guard who are in need of equipment. Mardi Gras is early this year. Come join us in our lounge Sat. Feb. 16 th. Bring your beads, masks, and purple, green and gold get-ups. See our ad. Saturday, Feb. 15 the Southern Area Ball with be held at our Post at 6:00pm. Hopefully our Post will be well represented. Lastly folks, again, when visiting the lounge take a moment to view our bulletin boards for upcoming events and functions. For God, Country and Family. 1st Vice Commanders Report I want to thank everyone that renewed their 2014 dues. For those of you that have not renewed, you will notice that your red door cards do not work. You are now in default and must pay your dues to receive your new door card. Renew Now. Remember this year s motto, if you see a veteran, Just Ask. Everyone should carry a application form with them at all times, so when someone asks, have them fill it out and bring it to the Post and we will do the rest. Please remember that The American Legion has to report to Congress annually with membership numbers. These numbers give us the power to make the changes for our benefits for all veterans. Let s get those renewals in so we can continue the work that our forefathers envisioned.
