He is joined by former Panther Kelcey Roegiers-Jensen. Internet: Live stats at GeorgiaStateSports.com Georgia State returns to Atlanta for its first two-game CAA home week of the season. The Panthers will start by hosting the re-match with Old Dominion on Thursday night at 7 p.m. on WRAS-FM (88.5) radio. Old Dominion, like GSU, has just one senior on its roster, to go with three juniors. The Lady Monarchs of first-year ODU coach Karen Barefoot defeated GSU in Norfolk, 68-59, on Jan. 4. For a pair of Old Dominion players, this is a homecoming-type game. Senior Tia Lewis, who hails from Poulan, Ga. (Worth County HS) began her college career in 2007-08 as the Conference USA Freshman of the Year at UCF, but transferred her second year and sat out that season at ODU. Lewis, who attended former GSU head coach Lea Henry s Camp of Champions in Albany in south Georgia, was highly recruited by major college schools both coming out of high school and when she elected to transfer from UCF. The 6-foot-3 post player was a three-time All-State pick at Worth County HS in Sylvester, a town midway between Albany and Tifton. The 22-year old leads ODU in scoring (18.8), rebounding (9.1) and blocked shots (20). Sophomore Shakeva Richards hails from Griffin, Ga. (Spalding HS), about 40 miles from the GSU Sports Arena. She led the Lady Jags to a 19-8 mark with 17 points, 10 rebounds a game as a senior in 2009-10. The 6-foot-2 post player starts now as a sophomore for ODU, averaging 5.6 points a game. Georgia State s 6-10 record has seen the Panthers go 6-2 against teams with RPI rankings between 100-and-343 in the nation. But, GSU has played six top 50 teams (0-6) and eight top 100 teams (0-8) this season. The young Panthers have five freshmen who have logged 997 minutes this season, gaining valuable experience. The teams compete in the CAA (Colonial Athletic Association). The Panthers have just one senior (Chan Harris) and are working five freshmen and two transfers into the mix this season. A GLANCE AT OLD DOMINION The Lady Monarchs have a storied women s basketball history with a 933-337 all-time record in their 43 years (1969-70) with 25 NCAA appearances and 17 CAA titles. Their non-caa schedule was rated No. 74 in strength this year as they traditionally play a challenging slate. Coach Karen Barefoot was hired late on June 8 when Wendy Larry stepped aside with 599 wins over the past 24 years. Larry works at ODU in the Office of Institutional Advancement for fundraising projects. Barefoot came to ODU as head coach at Elon. Barefoot had been an ODU assistant coach for three years and is a native of Newport News. ODU was 20-11 last season and returned seven letterwinners. The go-to player is six-foot-three senior Tia Lewis, who averages 18.8 points, 9.1 rebounds and has 20 blocked shots. Lewis has 35 career double-double games, including six this season. Junior Jackie Cook has stepped up in CAA play to average 15.6 points per game for the Lady Monarchs, with a 20-point outing as her best. In the Jan. 4 game in Norfolk, Lewis had a career-high 30 points and 10 rebounds to lead ODU to a 68-59 win over the Panthers. Last year in Atlanta, ODU topped GSU, 66-62, with a furious rally. Host GSU led 62-57 with 2:23 to play when ODU scored nine points while GSU never scored again. Kendra Long led GSU with 21 points and five treys. ODU has beaten GSU and Northeastern, while bowing to VCU in OT in Richmond, along with Hofstra and George Mason. FEELING REJECTED- THe SwAT TEAM GSU leads the CAA and has blocked 84 shots in the 16 games (5.2 per game) with The Swat Team of Harris and Paul accounting for 59 of those 84 rejections. The 5.2 blocks per game ranks No. 21 in the NCAA this season. Last year, Georgia State finished No. 33 in the NCAA last season in blocked shots with 144 (4.6 per game). That Swat Team was led by 6-foot-3 Cody Paulk (56) and 6-foot-2 Chan Harris (49) as they combined for 105 of those rejections. Only one other duo in school history had ever combined for 100 blocks before. Harris has swatted away 120 shots in her career (29 this year) and junior Paulk has rejected 107 opponent attempts (30 this season). Only four players in GSU history had reached 100 blocked shots, with Harris becoming the fifth earlier this season and Paulk the sixth on Monday. GSU s BEST SHOT-BLOCKING TANDEMS 1. Next week, the Panthers go back on the road to play at James Madison in a re-match and at VCU for the first time in another five-day road trip. GSU plays an 18-game CAA slate, nine home and nine away. The CAA play leads up to the CAA Championship in metro Washington, D.C. (Upper Marlboro, Md.) from March 8-11.

Coach SHARON BALDWIN-TENER Sharon Baldwin-Tener, named GSU s head coach in April of 2010, has known how to win as both a collegiate player and collegiate coach. In her first season, GSU continued to improve as the season went along, defeating the team in the CAA Championship that had beaten them by 24 points in the first CAA of her tenure.the team had the first three-game win streak in their short CAA history during a stretch in February, while also defeating two CAA teams who had been ranked in the Mid-Major Top 25 poll, She picked up her 200th career win as a head coach on Dec. 29 vs. Mississippi Valley State (91-65) and guided GSU to the 500th all-time win in school history on Jan. 9 in a win over Hofstra (84-70) In eight years, she turned the East Carolina women s basketball program around, winning 126 games, while earning postseason bids to the NCAA and WNIT tournaments. The Lady Pirates of ECU won the C-USA Tournament in 2007. Atlanta is a homecoming for Baldwin-Tener as she played her prep ball in Smyrna and her college ball at both Kennesaw State and the University of Georgia. She was an assistant coach at Georgia and a head coach at Life University in Marietta Those eight years at ECU followed her 2001-02 season as the Atlantic Sun Conference Coach of the Year honor in her only season at Mercer University in Macon. She first gained notice as the NAIA National Coach of the Year at Life University, where she began that program with a final No. 7 ranking in its first year and produced a team ranked No.1 in the national polls in her second season (2001). Her assistant coaching career was highlighted by being named the Naismith National Assistant Coach of the Year (1997) while she was in her seventh and final year at the University of Georgia under head coach Andy Landers. Baldwin-Tener enjoyed a successful playing career at both the high school and collegiate levels. At Wills High School (merged with Campbell High) in Smyrna, Ga., she averaged 21 points per contest as a senior and was named the 1985 Georgia Class 4A State Player-of-the-Year. Baldwin-Tener earned a bachelor s degree from Georgia in 1991 and completed her master s of education in 1997, also at Georgia. She and her husband, Matt, have two children: Luke (7, Feb. 4, 2004) and Samantha (6, Oct. 28. 2005). The Panthers have committed 340 turnovers, an average 21.3 per game, to rank in the bottom 10% in the NCAA. The stats show that only 169 of those were steals by the opponents (49%), meaning the other 171 were caused by the Panthers themselves not taking care of the basic passing and dribbling. FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH LINEUP Georgia State has started two 18-year old guards this season in Ashley Watson (Dec. 29, 1992) and Kayla Nolan (Sept. 24, 1993). Starter Kendra Long just turned 20 (Nov. 14) to join starting center Cody Paulk, who turned 20 in June. Freshman Miranda Smith is 18 (April 11, 1993) with freshmen Brittany Johnson (July 6, 1992) and Alana Beroth (April 3, 1992) both 19 years young. The old lady of the lineup this year is Chan Harris, in her fifth year, who turned 22 on July 12. Forward Tiffany Andeson celebrated her 21st birthday last week (Dec. 6) and guard Jerlisa Taylor turned 21 Dec. 27. CLEANING THE GLASS The Panthers are averaging 40.1 rebounds per game this season, topped by 55 rebounds vs. Appalachian State, 52 vs. Hofstra and 50 vs. Jacksonville State. GSU had 28 offensive rebounds in that game alone vs. Appalachian State. The hustling team has 225 offensive rebounds this year (14.1 per game). Georgia State averaged 40.5 rebounds per game last year, fourth in the CAA. They had a +2.5 rebound advantage for the season to rank No. 87 in the NCAA final stats. The top two rebounders are back in Chan Harris and Cody Paulk, with veteran Tiffany Anderson also a key again. BANG-BANG GSU guard Kendra Long acquired that nickname for her ability to quickly knock down shots from anywhere on the basketball court. Long first signed an NLI with Georgia Tech, but was released from that and joined Georgia State after Coach Baldwin-Tener arrived. So far in just 47 games at GSU, she has gone bang-bang with 91 three-point baskets, averaging almost two per game. She hit the target from three-point range five times in four games last year and went bang bang four times against Florida State and Western Carolina this year. Long was a 1,000-point scorer (reaching that figure on a three-point shot, naturally) in high school with a top game of 42 points. The sharpshooter was named MVP of the Georgia- Florida All-Star game. At GSU, Long s best so far was a 21-point night last year vs. Old Dominion and then a 20-point game in the win over Campbell on Nov. 25. She has had three 18-point games. Long has made 5 treys in a game at GSU four times with this year s best being four-of-eight at Florida State and four-ofseven at WCU.

Tech, following the posting of final first semester grades. The 6-foot-3 post player was recruited by Baldwin-Tener to East Carolina and had transferred to Georgia State for the second semester last year. She has been able to practice with the team for a year now. She had her first double-figure game with 10 points, 6 rebounds in 17 minutes in the win over High Point. She added 7 points and 5 boards in 22 minutes in the win at Jacksonville State. She started her first game vs. Bethune-Cookman on Jan. 2 (5 pts, 4 reb., 1 block). HARRIS READY TO JOIN ELITE STAT CLUBS Senior forward Chan Harris is nearing several milestones in her career. She is closing in on 1,000 points, on 700 rebounds, on a 20th double-double and on the top 10 in career games played. Harris currently has 944 points, needing 56 to become the 20th in GSU history to score 1,000 points. Harris has 672 rebounds, needing 38 to become just the 12th in school history to pull down 700 rebounds. The forward has 120 blocks, leap frogging into third place all-time in Panther history. She has produced 19 career double-double games and will be the 7th to ever have 20 with her next one. Harris has played in 112 games at GSU, needing to get to play in 114 to crack the top 10 list of all-time games played. CLASSROOM SUCCESS The Panthers had an excellent summer in the classrooms, posting a combined 3.35 GPA. Five members of the team had posted GPA s of 3.2 or better during last spring s semester that included basketball season. The recently completed fall semester saw seven Panthers shine in the classroom. Nicole Hargraves made the Dean s List with a GPA over 3.5. Six more players made the A.D. Honor Roll with a GPA above 3.2: Alana Beroth, Brittany Johnson, Kayla Nolan, Cody Paulk, Victoria Smith and Ashley Watso THREE-PEAT Freshman Kendra Long ranked No. 6 in the CAA last year with her 57 made three-point baskets. She is No. 6 this year (34 made) and No. 7 in threepoint percentage (.370). She made at least one trey in 25 of her 31 freshmen-year games and had five makes in a game three different times. She s made a trey in 40 of her 47 GSU games. With 91 career, she will soon become the 6th to ever make 100 career for Georgia State. The 57 makes were fourth most in a season in school history, so Long can set her sights on the season-best 69 makes by Carmelita Layog in 1999-2000. IT TAKES A THIEF GSU has 168 steals in 16 games this year (10.5, No. 4 in CAA), a stat usually indicative of the team s success. Oddly enough, this year s season low for steals was the 7 steals in the win over Campbell. Georgia State gets started with its pick-pockets and shot blocks. The Panthers averaged 10 steals a game last year (311 on the season) to rank No. 62 in the NCAA. The 144 blocks don t count as steals, but serve about the same purpose in getting the transition game going. It had 12 steals in the opener. The Panthers rely on everyone on the court getting steals, evident by the fact the seven players had 25 or more steals last year; eight different players have double figures so far this year in 2011-12.

SwattinG THEIR WAY UP THE SCHOOL ALL-TIME LIST Only four previous players in GSU women s basketball history had blocked 100 or more shots in their career. This season, two more have joined that exclusive list. Senior Chan Harris has reached the 100-plateau, while junior Cody Paulk has blocked 107 shots, after making 77 rejections in her first two years as she has a chance to challenge the all-time record. Paulk and Harris had the third and fifth best single season totals for blocks last year when Paulk batted down 56 100 Blocked Shots Player...Season Blks 1. Rhian Jones...1992-96 166 2. ROSTER BREAKDOWNS Georgia State s 2011-12 roster includes players from seven different states, plus one international student. Six of the 13 players hail from the state of Georgia, while two come from North Carolina. GSU has one player each from Alabama, California, Indiana, South Carolina and Virginia. One player came to GSU from Australia. Of the six from Georgia, four are from metro Atlanta (Long, Mays HS; Means, Mays HS; Nolan, Duluth HS: Taylor, Douglas County HS). This year s roster includes just one senior (Harris). The 2011-12 roster has five junors (Anderson, Hargraves, Means, Paulk, Taylor). There are two sophomores (Long, V. Smith) and five freshmen (Beroth, Johnson, Nolan, M. Smith, Watson). GAME-BY-GAME STARTING LINEUPS...G G G F C Arizona... Taylor Long Means Harris Paulk at Florida State... DEEP ROSTER Georgia State s roster is deeper than in the past and the playing time is more spread out. Through the 16 games, 11 different players have started a game and 11 players have logged 145 or more minutes.; 12 players have logged 100 or more. Eight different players have led the team in scoring in a game this year: Chan Harris, Kendra Long, Sade Means, Kayla Nolan, Tiffany Anderson, Jerlisa Taylor, Nicole Hargraves and Miranda Smith. Five different players have led the team in rebounding in a game this year: Alana Beroth, Chan Harris, Kendra Long, Cody Paulk and Tiffany Anderson. THAT S DIFFERENT Here s a streak that has to end real soon, but it is a little different. Georgia State had been led in scoring by a different player for 7 consecutive games and 8 on the season. Four of those eight were not starters. Starting on Dec. 16, this streak was almost a month long, but finally ended Thursday at Hofstra when Long led again. That list, starting with Tech had included Jerlisa Taylor, Sade Means, Chan Harris, Kendra Long, Tiffany Anderson, Nicole Hargraves and Miranda Smith. 100 three-point BASKETS Player Season Treys 1.
