Construction Management Port of Ramsgate Military Road Ramsgate CT11 9LG www.londonarray.com Notice of operations at London Array Offshore Wind Farm Date of Notice: June 19th 2011 Notice no: 27 The offshore construction work for London Array is now well underway. We will henceforth issue weekly notices on the progress and resources involved in the offshore project. The intention is to give an overview of activities and vessels involved. Should anyone have questions to the operations, we kindly ask you to put them forward well in advance. London Array Offshore Wind Farm The London Array Offshore Wind Farm will be constructed in the Outer Thames Estuary, it will be situated midway between the Kent and Essex coastlines, more than 20km (12 miles) from each shore. Phase one consist of 175 wind turbines, installed on two sandbanks; Long Sand and Kentish Knock and in the Knock Deep channel that lies between, in water depths ranging from 0 to 25 m. (See attached chartlet) The project will be connected by subsea cables to a new onshore substation at Cleve Hill on the North Kent coast. From the substation, the electricity will be fed into the existing National Grid transmission network. Work planned for week 25 (20/06/11 to 26/06/11) The foundation installation Jack-up barge Sea Worker accompanied by tugs Sea Alfa and Sea Echo will continue the foundation installation. The sequence of installation will be G15 followed by I 20 and G 16. The sequence is governed to an extent by tidal conditions so is liable to change. Whilst construction is taking place at these positions a 500m safety zone is established, and vessels are to keep clear. The vessels 'Kirkspray' will be undertaking Marine Mammal Observation duties, prior to and during piling operations. PGLR (pre-lay grapnel runs) will be conducted in the Swale Channel intertidal zone commencing from the offshore side of the substation site at Cleve Hill by the multicat vessel MCS Elly working out of Whitstable. PGLR (pre lay grapnel runs) will be conducted between the offshore sub-stations and the Swale Channel near to Whitstable by the MPR 4 multicat, working out of Ramsgate. PGLR (pre lay grapnel runs) will be conducted between WTG sites and between WTG sites and the offshore substations by the multicat vessel MCS Ailsa working out of Sheerness. Cable crossing surveys over the Britned and Kentish Flats export cables will be carried out by the catamaran Nab Cat II. Construction site guard vessel duties will be covered by the Ocean Dragon. Crew boats Conwy Bay, Marian Array, Roscolyn Head and MPI Rucio will take offshore technicians to the installed foundations and construction vessels, and perform personnel transfer duties. Service and re-install Knock Deep North wave rider buoy. The Fisherman's Gat wave rider will not be reinstalled. 2. The unique ID number is displayed on signs spaced 120º. Each foundation is equipped with a solar powered amber light Fl(Y) 2.5 s 2nm Two wave rider buoys installed as listed below. The wave rider buoys are protected by 2 guard buoys (Lt. Fl (5) Y 20sec 2nm) approximately 50 metres to the North and South of each wave rider buoy. Note:- Currently the Fishermans Gat and the Knock Deep North wave rider buoys have been removed for servicing. Knock Deep North should be back on site early in the week. Fisherman's Gat will be retained ashore as deployable reserve. Other notes Safe distance Whilst installation is ongoing at the individual positions a 500m radius safety zone is established around the installation upon which the construction vessel is installing or maintaining. The only vessels permitted to enter and remain in the safety zone are vessels involved in activities related to construction and major maintenance works. Mariners should be aware that anchor lines can extend from the construction vessels for distances greater than 500m. During the construction period of the wind farm, a 50m radius safety zone is established around each wind turbine, offshore sub-station platform and associated foundation structures, installed, complete or incomplete (until commissioned as part of the London Array Offshore Wind Farm). All vessels are reminded that the J-tube/Bell Mouth configuration extend several meters out from the TP perimeter. All vessels should proceed with caution when approaching the foundations.
