LIBERTY DOLLS PACKET 2018-2019 Come and be a part of the Lakeview Centennial Liberty Dolls!! You need NO Experience to be on JV Drill Team!!!!! We will teach you ALL you need to know!!! 1

General Information about the Liberty Dolls Junior Varsity Drill Team at Lakeview Centennial High School: Drill team is great for all high school students because it provides them with friends who are actively supporting Lakeview before school even begins. Girls with zero dance experience are taught the fundamentals of dance and are soon well on their way to the high kicking varsity drill team, the Yankee Doodle Sweethearts. Drill team builds self-esteem, provides a positive atmosphere, creates lifelong friendships, and encourages the development of self-discipline. More experienced dancers and/or girls with leadership interests are encouraged to try out for a position as officer or squad leader on May 18 th, 2018. Leaders of all ages are necessary in our organization. Don t underestimate what you are capable of accomplishing. Give it a try! There will be a JV officer/squad leader drill team clinic the week of May 14 th May 17 th for all young ladies who are interested in trying out for officer or squad leader. More information about these clinics will be discussed at the Informational Meeting on Monday, May 1, 2018 at 6:30pm in the cafeteria at LC. Practice wear as well as field uniform will be required. Team Leader provides our practice wear and Cheer Etc. provides our field uniforms (can only be ordered through us). Each girl and parent must attend the First Parent Meeting and Fitting to be sized for their practice wear and uniforms. The price sheets will be passed out at the Informational Meeting on Monday, May 1, 2018 at 6:30pm. Physical will also be required by August 1, 2018, and must be dated AFTER May 1, 2018. Team physical will be held on an announced date. Those who decide to join the team will have the opportunity to: -Perform field routines at all JV football games -Perform at basketball games -Perform in the Sweethearts Varsity Drill Team Christmas Show and Spring Show -Learn dance skills for Varsity Drill Team tryouts -Possibly perform at Contest in February 2019 If you would like to join our team next year, be sure to register for JV drill team when you select your classes with your 8 th grade counselors. Liberty Doll Schedule Details 2018-2019 Informational Meeting On Tuesday, May 1 st, at 6:30 pm in the LCHS Cafeteria, all students interested in JV drill team at Lakeview and their parents are invited to come and learn about time and cost obligations from the director. Officer candidate students and parents please plan to stay later to discuss officer/squad leader tryout information. We will discuss the calendar of events, Constitution, Candle fundraiser, Car wash fundraiser, etc. Liberty Dolls Sign Up Deadline The JV Drill Team Line Application, a copy of your most recent report card, the signed Constitution Agreement, a copy of your most recent report card, a copy of your most recent attendance record, JV Drill Team Essay, Code of Conduct and 3 Letters of Teacher Recommendations are due on or before Friday, May 11 th. All applications must be complete in order to sign up for Liberty Dolls. Applications will not be accepted after Friday, May 11 th by 5pm in the LCHS office. NO LATE APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED. Officer/Squad Leader Drill Team Clinics The clinics will be held Monday, May 14th through Thursday, May 17th, from 5:00-7:00pm in the LCHS Main Gym. These practices are for any girl who is interested in being an officer or squad leader for JV drill team to learn the dances used in tryouts. The girls will learn a jazz routine and Strut for the tryouts. Officer and Squad Leader Applications are due by 5:00pm on Monday, May 14th. Officer/Squad Leader Tryouts Tryouts will be held Friday, May 19th starting at 5:00 pm in the LCHS Main Gym. Judges will score each officer/squad leader candidate based on the execution of the strut, jazz dance, right and left leg splits, and individual interviews. All candidates will be identified by tryout numbers, and put in groups to perform for the judges. All judges scores are final. Tryouts are closed to the public. Social Officer Tryouts The JV Drill team needs social officers to be in charge of decorating, motivating, and party planning all year long. If you are a social person, and love to be more involved within the team, this could be the position for you! Tryout information will be announced during camp. Sell Backs Sell Backs will be held during the Meeting/Uniform Fitting on Tuesday, May 22 nd, at 6:00 pm in the LCHS Cafeteria. At this time, you will have the opportunity to buy gently used dancewear from previous Liberty Doll team members. This may help reduce the overall cost of participation for your student. Please come prepared to try on the clothing. Only cash will be accepted for sellbacks. Dancewear Fitting A mandatory fitting will be held on Monday, May 22nd at 6:00pm in the LCHS Cafeteria. At this time, Team Leader is requiring that you pay in full by cashiers check, money order, cash or credit card. Personal checks will not be accepted. Please come prepared to try on the clothing. Uniform Fitting On Monday, May 22 nd, at 6:00pm (Same as the Dancewear Fitting), Our Cheer Etc representative will be there to take your measurements for your uniform. Cash only. Personal checks will not be accepted. Officer Camp Liberty Doll Officers will be required to attend dance classes from a specific outside studio over the summer. They will join the Varsity Sweethearts (Info from Director). Those will cost approximately $40-$50 total and run through June. Liberty Doll Officers will be required to attend chosen officer camps: (The director will decide which camp Officers will be attending. This could change as availability changes.) Costs will be approximately $200. 4

Mandatory Pre-Camp Team Practices Officer only pre-camp Practice will be July 31 st from 6pm-9:00pm Full Team practices will be held August 1 through August 2 6:00-9:00 pm at LCHS. The whole team will learn and practice the school songs and make other preparations for football season. The camp payment of $50.00 (in exact cash) will be due at this time (August 1, 2018). Line Camp The team will attend a mandatory line camp in the summer. The camp will be held on Monday, August 6-9, from 1:00 to 7:00 pm at Naaman Forest High School. This camp is where the Liberty Dolls will learn all material for performances during football season. Show-offs for the public will be held on August 9 th at 7:00 pm in the main gym at Naaman Forest High School. Car Wash Fundraiser The Car Wash Fundraiser will be held in August 2018. Each drill team member is required to sell 6 car wash tickets for $5.00 each, and then attend the carwash. This is used as your $30+ activity fee for the year to offset costs for t-shirts. Time and location TBA. Team Summer Practices There will be mandatory refresher practices for the whole team to review the routines learned at camp and school songs for the first pep rally and football game. The mandatory practice dates are: August 13-16 from 6-8pm. Freshman FISH camp Liberty Dolls perform at the beginning of FISH camp. Be prepared to attend and perform a routine from camp. Afterwards, you can attend FISH camp with the rest of the freshman. First Day of School Monday, August 28 th, is the first day of school for the 2018-2018 school year. School starts at 7:30 am; however, as responsible leaders in the school, Liberty Dolls are expected to be at school no later than 7:15 am to make sure they know where they are going and can get there on time. First After School Practice We will also have practice on the second day of school in the cafeteria: Tuesday, August 21 from 2:55 to 5:00 PM Weekly Practice Schedule As a member of the Liberty Dolls, you will be required to attend after school practices every Monday and Tuesday from 2:55-5:00 pm. Each unexcused absence will result in points deducted based on the GISD JV Drill Team Constitution, and removal from upcoming performances. Junior Varsity Football Games The Liberty Dolls will perform at all District Junior Varsity football games. These are scheduled on either Wednesday or Thursday evenings during the fall semester and usually fall the day just prior to Varsity football games. Attendance at all District JV games is mandatory. You must provide your own transportation to each game location, and you must have someone pick you up immediately following the game. Varsity Football Games The Liberty Dolls must attend all District Varsity football games as designated by the director. These are scheduled on either Thursday or Friday evenings during the fall semester, and usually fall on the day after the JV football games. Attendance and transportation are the same as above. 5

Junior Varsity Drill Team Code of Conduct Lakeview Centennial High School Being a drill team member is an honor and a special privilege. Drill team members and spirit groups exist to promote good sportsmanship, good citizenship, and wholesome and enthusiastic school spirit and are first and foremost representatives of their school. Drill team members should exemplify both individual and group behavior suitable to their position and in accordance with the rules as stated in the GISD Student Code of Conduct. Members of these groups have a fundamental responsibility to play a leadership role in building teamwork and helping the school achieve its goals and objectives. The purpose of the Code of Conduct is to preserve and maintain a higher standard of behavior both on and off campus. In addition to the GISD Student Code of Conduct, and the GISD JV Drill Constitution, the following standards will be in effect twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, twelve months a year, in season and out of season, whether or not school is in session. All drill team members will be expected to follow the Code of Conduct. Probation Guidelines: See also GISD Varsity and Junior Varsity Drill Team Constitutions Drill Team members are not allowed to participate in performances of the team or specialty groups. The drill team member is not allowed to travel with the team. The member is not allowed to wear the team uniforms. During the probationary period, the student must attend classes, work periods, and practices scheduled during and before/after school hours.
