PAGE 2 ODM s Jr. Members are Active! ABOUT JUNIOR MEMBERSHIP: Junior Membership gives students ages 13 to 20 the opportunity to further their studies in dance with the interest of being a Future Dance Master of America Teacher. Junior Members develop positive social relationships and learn about the Dance Masters organization through an established curriculum and through volunteering at ODM conventions.* They have meetings and special classes at each ODM convention. The March/April convention each year the Junior Members hold a Chinese Auction to raise funds. The funds that they raise not only help to finance their special classes, but the membership chooses a charity that they would like to help. This year s auction will benefit the Salvation Army. Not only are our students learning what it means to belong to Chapter 16, but they are also learning how to be compassionate toward those in need. Any students interested in Junior Membership can have their teacher contact: Dawn. *From the ODM Code of Regulations.

A therapist visits her several times a week and she has exercises to do on the days the therapist does not visit. CLEVELAND PAGE 5 WELCOME, NEW MEMBERS!! Katie Lyons has been studying dance for 13 years under the instruction of Denise Bryant in Tallmadge, Ohio. She has studied in tap, jazz, ballet, pointe, modern, lyrical, contemporary, hip hop, musical theater, liturgical and acrobatics. Katie is a student at the University of Akron and is studying Early Childhood Education. Whenever she gets a chance, she takes a dance class at the University. Katie has won many awards in tap, jazz and ballet. She has attended Cecchetti Council of America s International Summer School in Holland, Michigan and Dance Masters of America s Student Honors Intensive Program and Teachers Training School in Buffalo, New York. Dance Masters has been a huge part of Katie s life since she was 10 years old. In eighth grade Katie joined Junior Members where she was given the offices of treasurer and president. Now, Katie has received her membership from Dance Masters of America and is certified to teach tap, jazz and ballet. Katie has also successfully taken her Grades One and Two Cecchetti Teacher s exams as well as her Grade Five student exam. Katie hopes to instill the love and passion for dance that she has with each and every one of her students. Courtney Kelley began dancing at age 3 studying ballet, tap, jazz and lyrical. For the next 15 years she studied with Melynda Lott, Cindy Straub, Angie Haver and Suzy Straub at both Straub Dance Center and Generations Performing Arts Center. In her many years of dancing, she competed and won awards at Ohio Dance Masters and Dance Masters of America, Headliners Performing Arts Competitions, American Dance Awards and KAR Nationals. She was a featured performer in Capital Holiday Lights, the Miss Ohio Competition in 1998, and the United Way Fundraiser at Nationwide Arena with Dionne Warwick in 2000. After high school, Courtney went on to advance her dancing career by studying with Jackie Patterson former Joffery Ballet dancer, and learning new jazz, tap and ballet techniques with Frank Hatchett at Broadway Dance Center in New York City. Her professional career began when she was hired by Six Flags to perform in The Big Kahuna, a 50 s beach musical review, as two different characters. Courtney assisted in dance classes at both her former studios and worked as a teacher at Generations. She is in her second year at Footsteps Family Dance Center working for Jennifer Curren, teaching ballet, pointe, Jr. Ballet Company and the little ones in the Genesis Program. Joining ODM/DMA has always been a goal for her and she is very thankful to all the amazing teachers that have influenced her over the years. Her induction was a special moment for her because both her current boss, Jennifer Curren, and her very first dance teacher, Angie Haver, were there to witness it.
