Entry Forms & Report Forms are available at the Extension and Outreach Office or on our website at www.extension.iastate.edu/keokuk. Important Expo 2016 Livestock Rule An Animal Care & Disclosure Statement (drug affidavit) is required for all beef, meat goat, sheep, and swine exhibitors. The form for this statement can be found on our website at www.extension.iastate.edu/keokuk. Expo 2016 Judging Instructions The 2016 Keokuk County Expo Exhibit Judging will be held Tuesday, July 12th. Members will be judged on a first come, first served basis within the designated time for their primary club. ~ 8:30 am to 9:30 am Keswick Klover Leaves, Stick to It, Lafayette Feeders 9:30 am to 10:30 am Patriotic Panthers, Riverside, Hoofbeats 10:30 am to 11:30 am Liberty Leaders, Hot Shots, Ricochet, Lego Leagues ~ All exhibits MUST be registered by 11:30 am. Please arrive no more than 10 minutes early for your club s designated judging time slot. You will not be checked in before your club s time slot! 2016 LIVESTOCK INFORMATION Dog Obedience Practices Dog Obedience practices are held each Thursday night at 7:00 PM at the Expo. Exhibitors are required to attend 50% of the scheduled practices to be eligible to show. Exhibitors are also required to make an entry on their Blue card in the appropriate class for their dog and trainer experience. Cattle/Sheep/Bucket Bottle @ Expo ALL animals are to be at Expo by NOON on Wednesday, July 13th. Members are responsible for weighing in animals on Wednesday morning during the designated times. Please remember that you are responsible for any of your livestock left unattended at Expo. 4-H/FFA Horse Department *A minimum of two practices is required to be eligible to show at Expo. *A Costume Class has been added to the Timed Events/Fun & Games. An email will be sent with more details to all those who sign up for this class on their Blue Cards. *Horse-related events can be approved as a practice by the superintendents. Proof of attendance is required. A signed paper by the event coordinator (their official title) stating your name, the date, the location, and participating activity. Please see your email for more information, or call the Extension Office. 2016 Practice Schedule *Sunday, June 12th Keokuk County Expo Open Horse Show (begins at 9:00 am at Horse Arena on Expo Fairgrounds) *Wednesday, June 22nd at 6:00 pm *Wednesday, June 29th at 6:00 pm *Friday, July 8th Keokuk County Fair Open Horse Show (begins at 6:30 pm at What Cheer Fairgrounds) *Sunday July 10th Expo Set Up Day ~ 2 ~ Livestock Bedding The Hammes Brothers Sawmill will be donating the bedding for livestock for 2016 Expo. There will be an excess pile, location TBA, for replenishing the stalls during the week. At Expo all hogs will be unloaded/penned on the north side of the barn prior to weigh-in at approximately 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 13th. NO hogs will be allowed to weigh from the trailer. Please remember that only hogs shown as breeding gilts AND the overall Market Champion (for the Best of the Best Jackpot Show) will be allowed to return home after exhibition. Friday, July 15th Interviews begin at 2:30 pm Show at 6:00 pm Keokuk County Expo Open Horse Show ATTENTION ALL 4-H BUCKET BOTTLE CALF, LAMB, OR GOAT EXHIBITORS: June 12, 2016 ~ Entries open at 8 am, Show starts at 9 am *Featuring Halter, Performance, Timed Events & Games!! SWINE @ Expo Bucket/Bottle Show & Interviews Please remember to fill out your calf, lamb, or goat on a Blue Entry Card by July 1 (your leader will give you this at your June meeting). After all entries have been completed, a schedule for interviews will be sent out. Please bring your Bucket/Bottle packet with you for your interview. Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled time. Extension and Outreach Office For the 2016 Expo all Livestock (including Rabbits, Dogs, and Pets) will be required to fill out an Blue Entry Card that has been handed out to each 4-H club leader, and mailed to the FFA exhibitors. Entry cards are required to be turned back into the Extension and Outreach Office by July 1. Each class will have a number associated with it and you will be required to enter animals into their designated classes (animal s tag number and class number for each class the animal will be in). Class numbers can be found in the Expo Book. There is a $25 fee for Blue Cards returned after July 1st If you have questions, or for more information, please contact Jorie in the Extension and Outreach Office. Horse/Pony Information Show: Thursday, July 14th at 10:00 am 9:45 am - EXHIBITOR S MEETING and group picture for the paper! Show will begin with halter and showmanship classes first, followed by riding classes and timed events/games. Don t Forget - White, long sleeved button up shirt required for ALL CLASSES (including timed events/games). Please pay special attention to what classes you registered for & which horse you registered with! If you scratch a class do it BEFORE THE CLASS STARTS!! Market Animal Scanning Date/Time: During Expo Weigh-In s Market Sheep & Beef can be back scanned for carcass contest! Market Hogs have to be scanned for carcass contest. We will not be sending Cattle or Sheep to market so you will need to take your animals home after Expo! There will be a charge for all animals scanned. This charge will be taken off your carcass checks. Please keep this in mind when entering animals into the carcass contest! BREEDING ANIMALS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR ENTRY IN THE CARCASS CONTEST. IF YOU SCAN A BREEDING ANIMAL YOU WILL BE CHARGED! Scanning cost: Cattle - $15/h, Hogs - $7/h, Sheep - $7/h

2016 KEOKUK County EXPO INFORMATION June 1st to July 1st ~ 2016 Iowa State Fair Entries 4-H Livestock & Horticulture Due on 4hOnline. Entry fees will be charged and need payment at the time of registration. If you identified or weighed in animals for State Fair, you must ALSO go through the entry process!! This is the 2nd step for enrolling your projects for the State Fair. If this isn t done you will be unable to show! If you need help please contact Michele at 641-622-2680. Photography Report Form You will use the same photography report form as last year. The form is only 1 sided and asks questions about the exhibit and information on the camera used. A copy of the form is included in this newsletter. A copy of this form can also be found on our county website: www.extension.iastate.edu/keokuk/ Photo Matting Night Photo matting will be available at the Extension Office for FREE on July 7th from 4:30 to 7:00 pm. You may also bring in your own mat and we will help you with the cutting and mounting. The office has a large selection of colored matting to choose from. We hope to see you there! Photos are not required to be matted for Expo exhibition. ~ 4 ~ Expo Set Up SUNDAY, JULY 10TH *ALL 4-H AND FFA MEMBERS AND FAMILIES ARE NEEDED TO HELP CLEAN UP THE EXPO GROUNDS AND SET UP FOR SHOWS! PLEASE PLAN ON ATTENDING! *FLAG RAISING CEREMONY BEGINS AT 1 PM WITH CLEANUP AND SET UP IMMEDIATELY FOLLWING. *MEMBERS WILL BE SETTING UP THE LIVESTOCK BARN AND THE 4-H EXHIBIT HALL CLUB BOOTHS. 4-H Awards Wall There will be a ribbon-cutting dedication ceremony for the new 4-H/FFA Awards Wall on Thursday, July 14th, at noon. The new Awards Wall will be placed on the Southeast side of the Barn. Thank you to all who have helped to donate to make the Awards Wall happen this year!! 40th Expo Anniversary Celebration T-Shirts Riverside 4-H Club is selling Expo s 40th Anniversary T-Shirts to commemorate this year s celebration. The design is pictured above. T-shirts will be $15.00, and range from Youth XS XL, and Adult XS 5XL. Orders and payments must be completed by June 20th. Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Keokuk County 400 220th Ave Suite A Sigourney, IA 52591 2016 Best of the Best JackPot Show in Iowa County Iowa County will be hosting a jackpot show on July 30th, 2016. Keokuk County Expo s 2016 Grand Champions of the breeding and market divisions for swine, beef, meat goat, and sheep species are eligible to attend. Each Grand Champion will be given a card with specific show details after they win their respective division. This show will be against the Grand Champion winners of the county fairs from Benton, Cedar, Iowa, Jones, Marshall, Poweshiek, and Tama counties. There will be clinics sponsored by Purina Honor Show Chow open to all 4-H ers from 9 to 11 am featuring information about showing each specific species. The show will begin at 1 pm, starting with the breeding animals, then move on to market livestock. The show order will be Meat Goats, Swine, Sheep, and end with Beef.
