Coaches Corner 2015 Gym SA Awards Congratulations to Carolyn Martin for winning the 2015 GFA Coach of the Year award. Carolyn was recognised for her contributions to the World Gymnaestrada team and her work with the BDYC as coach, choreographer, gymnast and committee member. Well deserved!! The club also won the Acromat Club of the Year award for its high achievements in coaching, programs, administration, community involvement, facilities and membership growth and particularly our selection in the World Gymnaestrada Team and our New Clubrooms project. We also received a $1,000 voucher thanks to Acromat to purchase gymnastics equipment. Newly Qualified Beginner Coaches Congratulations to Cheryl Burgemeister, Lisa Thomas and Amelia Fulham who all passed the Beginners Face to face coaches course in Adelaide recently. Courses -Carolyn Martin and Jo Pankhurst have updated their Advanced First Aid qualifications. -Jane McFarlane completed the Member Protection Information Officer course. Welcome New Coach Yvonne Bray from the Platinums Performance Troupe has recently taken up a role as Junior Coach with the club. Gym SA Forum Head Coach Jane McFarlane attended the Gym SA Forum in Adelaide in May. Clubs from all over the state come together to discuss what the barriers are that clubs face, what additional things they would like from their membership with Gym SA and what they would like the Gym for All gym sport to look like in the future. Jane also attended the Gym for All committee meeting where officers were elected for the roles in Recreation, Masters, Performance, Team Gym and Education. She also put forward our ideas for the Gym SA Coaches Congress. Gym SA Coaches Congress Karen Baxter, Carolyn Martin, Jane McFarlane, Michael Herrmann, Jody Scott, Paul Haenen and Amanda Rodden attended the annual Gym SA Coaches Congress to update their skills in Kindergym, Tumbling, Choreography/Artistry, Air Track, Spotting, Rhythmic, Acrobatics, Double mini-tramp and Gym Games. They will pass on their new knowledge to the rest of the coaching staff during the BDYC s Term Three Coaches Workshop so these ideas can be included in this term s programs.
New Clubrooms Project Builder Announced Big River Developments have been chosen as the builder for the Riverland Regional Innovations and Sport Precinct (home of our New Clubrooms). Council will now remove the underground irrigation and do the ground works ready for the builder to take over the site in September. Glassey Grass Fundraiser A big thank you to everyone who helped roll up the grass at Glassey Park and purchased lawn for their yards. We raised $4,444. Cadbury Chocolate Fundraiser Thank you to everyone who sold chocolate frogs to raise funds for our New Clubrooms Project. We are getting closer to filling our training pit with all the foam blocks we need!! Winner of the most boxes sold was Justyse Dixon who sold 7 boxes (350 chocolate frogs). What a fantastic effort!! Justyse received a gymnastics goodie basket for her efforts. We raised $3,100. Well done everyone!! Lions Club Grant Win!! We recently applied for a Lions Australia grant for $15,000 to go towards our foam training pit. We are thrilled to announce that we were successful and the funds will be added to our Calendar funds. The Berri Lions Club also donated $2,000 to the club this year for a total of $40,000 raised through Lions so far. Thank you Berri Lions Club!!! Defibrillator A huge thank you to Gymnastics Australia and Red Cross who have provided our club with a $1,600 subsidy on a defibrillator. We also received a $1,000 sponsorship from River Doc s ED and won a $500 quick response grant from the Berri Barmera Council to go towards the purchase. Club coaches are trained in how to use the unit through their Advanced First Aid training. When we re-locate to Glassey Park we will be installing the unit in the new Berri Stadium so that all user groups can have access to this life saving device.
Gymnastraeda Fundraising Talent Quest Congratulations to Michael Herrmann and Rebekah Thomson for winning the People s choice award in the Salvation Army Talent Quest held at the Berri Town Hall in May. 2nd Hand Shop We have lots of winter clothing, shoes and hats for sale. Grab a bargain and support our troupe s trip to Austria in 2019. RYT/Cirkidz Workshop 46 children participated in the Circus Workshops with 130 people attending the Circus Performance in the evening. Thank you to everyone who supported the event and bought sausages from our BBQ stall. Gymnastics Holiday Program A morning session was held during the Term 2 school holidays. Thank you to Woolworths Berri for supplying our hot pies and sausage rolls and to all who attended on the day. The next program will be held at the end of Term 3. Mammoth Monash Market Gymnastics Display 31 gymnasts participated in the May display. Thank you to everyone who helped on the day with loading the gear, setting up and unloading again-great team work!! 10 BCM points are coming your way. Berri Gymnastics Competition Another record number of entries were received this year with 140 gymnasts taking part. A huge thank you to all the gymnasts, coaches, judges, the scorer and volunteers who made the competition possible. Thank you also to all the parents who came to watch and support their children.
