Introduction Thank you for taking the first steps in considering joining the Irish Underwater Council (IUC). The IUC is the national governing body for Scuba Diving and Snorkeling in Ireland. This document introduces incoming divers who have completed all or most of their diver certification with other federations to the IUC Diver Equivalences Policy It also introduces the Equivalent Knowledge Sessions and how to progress your diving career within the IUC club and certification structure. A CMAS brevet is issued to divers who complete an IUC brevet course and examination successfully. A CMAS brevet is not issued to recognise Diver Equivalences. Having joined a club, you may wish to progress your dive training. We fully endorse this and encourage your progression. On joining the IUC club structure from another federation, it will be necessary for you to complete Equivalent Knowledge Sessions to ensure that you are operating according to the same standards as the divers within your club. Please see details in attached application form Any diver presenting to a club and claiming equivalence for a grade that falls outside this policy should submit a copy of an up to date logbook and certification record to the Club Diving Officer who will contact the National Diving Officer for clarification. Note: Divers with qualifications obtained from other dive training organisations joining the IUC are covered to dive to the depth of their certifying organisations qualification. A maximum depth of 50 meters applies to all grades and qualifications. Suitably qualified technical divers diving to depth greater than 50 meters must make their own separate medical and insurance arrangements.
