1 Lander University Homecoming 2016 February 12- February 20 Once Upon A Time Saturday game Augusta University Women s game 1:30pm, Men s game- 3:30pm Who can participate in Homecoming? All Lander Students, Faulty, and Staff (Student Organizations, Groups formed just for Homecoming, Residence Halls, etc) Lander will host the Augusta University Jaguars on Saturday, February 20. The Homecoming event forms are attached. Please make sure your forms are complete with all drawings, descriptions and scripts when submitted. Incomplete forms without all documentation will not be accepted. Homecoming rules for each event, as well as general rules, are in the enclosed information. All participants are responsible for reading and abiding by all rules. If you have any questions, please contact the Student Activities Office at 388-8244. Deadline Information Deadline for FORMS is Wednesday, February 3, 2016 Bring forms to the Office of Student Activities, GC 214 The following is required: 1. Events Entry Form 2. King & Queen Entry forms (optional) 3. Banner- brief description or drawing of banner. 4. Bearcat Showcase song lyrics (if using music), description of skit and costumes. DRESS REHEARSAL IS REQUIRED for Bearcat Showcase! Sign up for a dress rehearsal time when you drop off forms. Failure to meet deadlines could result in your group not being able to participate in those events. The 2016 Homecoming winner will have a group photo taken and hung in the Office of Student Activities above the Bearcat Cup for a one year period. 2 Lander University Homecoming 2016 IMPORTANT DATES AND DEADLINES Wednesday, February 3 by 3pm o Submit all forms, scripts, drawings, lyrics to the Office of Student Activities o King & Queen contestants sign up for interview slots o Bearcat Showcase contestants sign up for rehearsal times Thursday, February 4 @ 2pm o Homecoming Committee meeting to review drawing/scripts and lyrics Wednesday, February 10 o Banners due to the Office of Student Activities by 3pm o Dress rehearsal for Bearcat Showcase (20 minute slots- all day) o Bearcat Showcase CDs/DVDs due (changes may not be made after 2/10/13 unless requested by the committee) o Group pictures of King & Queen contestants will be taken at 7pm, prior to the Men s basketball game (LU vs. UNC Pembroke) o All King & Queen contestants will be introduced during halftime of the Men s basketball game o Voting will begin online after the game! 3 EVENT RULES Keep a copy of these rules and refer to them in making your plans. The event entry form is on page 8. Any information needed for an event should be attached to this form. King and Queen Entry forms are on p. 9 & 10. These must be turned in by the contestant in order to schedule his/her interview appointment. Any Lander student may participate in Homecoming. If any Lander-funded group s purpose is in direct conflict with any night s event, they are allowed to participate exhibition-style. Students must have a valid Lander ID to attend Homecoming events. King and Queen Contestants must be able to participate in the following events: Wednesday, February 10- All candidates are introduced during half time of the men s basketball game, 7:30pm. Group photos taken at 7pm. Friday, February 12, 8am 5pm: Interviews and individual pictures (set up interview when turning in form) Tuesday, February 16: 1pm: Queen Rehearsal; 1:30pm: King Rehearsal Saturday, February 20- Homecoming Day! Women s game- 1:30pm and Men s game- 3:30pm A group may sponsor one student for Queen and one student for King. Multiple organizations or groups may not sponsor the same candidate. Due to the scheduling of interviews and pictures, the queen and king candidates must turn in their own forms. The sponsoring organization must participate in a minimum of five events in order to sponsor a candidate. Each candidate must have completed 12 hours at Lander prior to the spring of 2016 semester and have a Lander cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above. Candidates must be a full time Lander University student (currently carrying at least 12 semester hours). Candidates must not be on academic or disciplinary probation. There is no fee for organizations to sponsor a king or queen contestant. Popularity vote (50%) and an interview process (50%) will select the Homecoming King & Queen. All nominees will be recognized at halftime of the women s and men s games, and the winners will be announced. (Kings halftime of the women s game; Queens halftime of the men s games.) If two or more candidates tie for the overall scoring of King, Queen or any runner-up, the highest interview score will break the tie. In the event the interview scores are the same, the highest GPA will break the tie. EVENTS BANNER COMPETITION Friday, February 12 Turn in Banners to the Office of Student Activities by 3pm on Wednesday, February 10. Banners must incorporate school and promote the homecoming game. The banner must be clearly identified with your organization name or letters. No glitter may be used on Banners! Banners must be on a twin size sheet (flat, not fitted) or equivalent size of material (66 inches x 96 inches). Banners that are any other size will not be accepted. DO NOT mount your banner on a board. All teams should gather at 12:30pm on Friday, February 12 for the Banner Reveal. Cheer your team on to a victory! Criteria for judging: Spirit of Lander (40%), Overall Appearance (30%), Originality/Creativity (20%) and Identifiable Name (10%). BEARCAT SHOWCASE Monday, February 15 Horne Arena 9 p.m. Turn in explanation of skit, song lyrics, script, DVD, CD, list of props for rehearsal, and description of costumes with entry form no later than 3 pm on Wednesday, February 3, 2016.

4 All groups should prerecord scripts! Using a Video? It must be in DVD format, NO POWERPOINT! Music must be in a CD format. The CD should contain only the songs you are using, in the correct order of your performance. Groups participating in Bearcat Showcase will sign up for a dress rehearsal time when they turn in their entry form. All participants must attend dress rehearsal on Wednesday, February 10. Failure to participate in the dress rehearsal may disqualify your organization from Bearcat Showcase. Athletic shoes should be worn by all participants. High heels are not allowed on the gym floor. If your group is using a CD, one member of the organization must sit with the technical crew during their performance. All participants in the Bearcat Showcase must be members of your organization or group. Each group is responsible for its props. Do not use any type of prop/product that would leave any residue or debris on the floor. Clear the floor completely once your performance is over. Point deductions could occur if groups do not follow instructions. Time limit The maximum time allowed for set-up, performance and tear down/clean up should not exceed 8 minutes. However, there is no minimum time limit. Criteria for judging: Spirit of Lander (40%), Creativity (30%), and Presentation of Performance (30%) MEDALLION SEARCH- Wednesday, February 17 Campus-wide, 10am-3pm Three (3) medallions will be hidden on campus property. Although the medallion will not be in open view, it will not be under any fixed/permanent structure or anything where property would be damaged to find it. Clues will be given throughout the search (from 10am-12pm). The team(s) who finds the medallions will be awarded an additional 10 points to their overall homecoming score! Medallions must be turned in upon finding to The Office of Student Activities to redeem points. SPIRIT COMPETITION- Wednesday, February 17 Finis Horne Arena- 5:30pm All members of your organization may participate. Each group may have an unlimited number of participants, all must be members of the organization or group. Check in at the table in the Arena with Shelby or Erin when your group arrives. Check-in time is 5 p.m. Each group should be identifiable by signs, banners, or t-shirts. NCAA rules prohibit the use of any type of noisemakers, such as sticks, air horns, beating drums/trash cans, pennies in a jug, etc. Any group trying to make the loudest noise with any type of noisemaker WILL be disqualified. Participating groups should sit in the lower deck on the home side of the Arena. The criteria for judging will be based on The Spirit of Lander (25%), Signage (25%), Dress/Costume (25%), and Group identity (25%). Bob Ross Paints It Up! Thursday, February 18 Grier Student Center 9pm An unlimited number of participants may support your entry member One team member will attempt to look like Bob Ross. Bob Ross look-alike member will be given 1 canvas and 1 easel along with paints and brush. While all watch a segment of Painting with Bob Ross, team member will attempt to follow his instructions. The criteria for judging will be based on support from team (33%), Bob Ross look- alike contest (33%), and completed painting (33%)

5 CHANDLER SOAP BOX RACE & PARADE Friday, February 19 PEES Circle Car judging and parade 4 p.m. Willson Street Race 4:30 p.m. Soapbox entries cannot be manufactured. Soapbox entry should match the photo and description submitted on Wednesday, Feb. 17. Cars should line up within the grassy knoll of the PEES Circle. Judging will take place at 4 p.m. Ten points will be deducted from your overall score if your car is late. After the car judging, cars will move to the top of Willson Street for the race. Entries may not be altered in any way for the race. Three people can push the car to get it started. The pushers do not have to be from your organization/group; however, they must be currently enrolled Lander students. The drivers must be from your organization/group. Drivers must wear an approved helmet (i.e. ANSI or SNELL) as well as knee pads and elbow pads, and it is suggested that they wear long pants instead of shorts. A working break system must be in place at the time of judging. Testing of the breaking mechanism will determine if the car can race. If the breaking system is inoperable, the car will not race. Each entry will be given one opportunity to cross the finish line. Points will be awarded for 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd place based on time trials. Criteria for car appearance judging: Spirit of Lander (40%), Overall Appearance (25%), Creativity (25%), and Identifiable Name (10%). After the race, each organization will move their car to GC 210 to be stored for the night. Each organization is responsible for moving their car to the PEES Circle on Saturday morning no later than 10 a.m. These will be on display all day on Saturday. TAILGATE-Saturday, February 20, 2016 CC Lawn-11 a.m. ORGANIZATIONS WHO PARTICIPATED IN SOAP BOX MUST MOVE THEIR SOAP BOX CAR TO THE PEES CIRCLE SATURDAY MORNING BY 10 a.m. You may bring your own tent. There must not be any advertisement or wording on the tents, other than the name of your organization. You must indicate on the entry form if you plan to bring a tent. Stakes may not be used for tents. Tents must be freestanding. Soap Box cars will be displayed in the PEES Circle. Faculty and staff groups or offices may also participate in Homecoming Tailgate activities. Tailgating is a non-alcoholic event. POINT SYSTEM There will be an all-points homecoming winner. Points for 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd place will be awarded for the following competitions: Banner Bearcat Showcase Bob Ross Paints It Up! Spirit Competition (at game) Campus-wide Medallion Search Soap Box Race and Car Competition First Place 15 points Second Place 10 points Third Place 5 points Each group will be awarded five points if they sponsor a King contestant and five points if they sponsor a queen contestant.

6 KING/QUEEN PARTICIPANTS King and Queen Contestants will sign up for an interview time after they turn in their own entry form. Each group must participate in a minimum of five Homecoming events in order to sponsor a King and/or Queen. Each group will be awarded five points if they sponsor a King Contestant and five points if they sponsor a Queen Contestant. In the event of a tie for the overall score of king, queen, or runner-up, the highest GPA will break the tie. King and Queen entry form- contestants must turn in their own forms and schedule their own interview time.
