2010-11 NCAA Men s Basketball Officiating Exam 1. A-1 is bleeding from a blow to the head and unable to attempt his free throws. RULING: (a) The opposing coach will choose the player to attempt the free throws from the four players on the court (b) A s substitute must attempt the free throws (c) Team A s coach may select the free thrower from the four players on the court Reference: 8-2-3; 3-4-17 2. During a jump ball but before either team gained control to start the first extra period, B-2 fouls A-2. Team A is in the bonus. RULING: (a) Set the arrow when official hands or bounces the ball to A-2 for the throw-in following the free throws (b) Set the arrow when ball is placed at the disposal of A-2 for the first free throw (c) Set the arrow when the ball is awarded to A-2 for the second free throw Reference: 4-15-6b 3. While A-1 is dribbling behind the semi-circle, A-2 and B-2 are charged with a double personal foul. 5. With three-tenths of a second remaining in the game and Team B leading 50-49, Team A is awarded a throw-in under their basket. A-2 lobs a pass in front of the basket and A-3 taps the ball toward his basket. The ball enters the basket as the horn sounds indicating time has expired. During A-1 s interrupted dribble, a double personal foul is committed. A-1 is injured on the play and unable to attempt the free throws. 19. Following a violation by Team B and before the ball is at the disposal of Team A for the throw-in, A-1 flagrantly fouls B-1. The foul is not observed by the officials. Team A completes the throw-in and the clock is started. The official now recognizes a foul may have been committed and uses the monitor to review the action. When it is determined a flagrant foul was committed, the officials are permitted: (a) To correct the missed flagrant foul before the second live ball following a successful goal and the clock is running and penalize with a flagrant personal foul (b) To correct the missed flagrant during the next dead ball and penalize with a flagrant personal foul (c) To correct the missed flagrant foul during the next dead ball and penalize with a flagrant technical foul (d) To correct the missed flagrant foul before the second live ball after a successful goal and the clock is running and penalize with a flagrant technical foul Reference: 2-13-6a1 20. 37.
