MODEL 269DF-LCF-LCF/WS Important! RECEIVING & UNPACKING Carefully examine the shipping carton and contents for damage. If carton or contents are damaged, contact your Gordinier Electronics, Inc. distributor or Gordinier Electronics Inc. directly at (586) 778-0426, immediately to file a claim. To preserve the right to claim shipping damages, the packing, inspection and filing of the claim must take place promptly. Failure to inspect and file promptly will release the shipper from liability. Check the contents for apparent shipping damage such as broken knobs, switches or dented cases. If there is any damage, IMMEDIATELY contact the carrier for corrective action. If an operating problem has been detected once the instrument has been properly set up, contact your Gordinier Electronics, Inc. distributor or Gordinier Electronics Inc. directly at (586) 778-0426. STOP! READ THIS ENTIRE INSTRUCTION MANUAL If you do not understand these instructions, please contact us for further explanation. Failure to comply may result in damage to unit or poor equipment performance. MODEL 269DF-LCF-LCF/WS THEORY OF OPERATION Model 269DF Controller allows unattended filling of dewars, by the use of a Single Thermistor sensor. When liquid nitrogen is detected, the filling system will SHUT OFF. When properly installed both systems (269DF and 269LCF) rely on liquid nitrogen (LN2) to activate the sensor probe (thermistor). At room temperature the thermistor is around 10ohms and in liquid nitrogen the thermistor is around 30000. Due to the heating effect of the thermistor via the 269 circuit, liquid nitrogen will reduce the thermistor operation to 5-10000ohms. During the filling process the LN2 gas has no effect on the sensor probe. Not until LN2 sufficiently covers the thermistor, causing the system to shut down. INDICATOR LAMPS STOP BUTTON SAFETY KEY (SHUTOFF SWITCH) START BUTTON FEATURES: Compact and totally enclosed. Safety key shutoff switch Push to START - STOP buttons Indicator Lamps showing POWER ON, STOP FILLING and FILLING Remote Relay contacts for added end filling indication. Model 269DF/LCF/WS 2
MODEL 269DF-LCF-LCF/WS LOCATION OF INTERNAL COMPONENTS **TB2 *TB1 SENSOR SHUT OFF VALVE PRESSURE ADJUSTMENT (Pressure causes Temperature change, which needs to be adjusted for proper shut-off) NOTE: LN2 under pressure affects the temperature of the liquid. (ex) The greater the pressure, the warmer the LN2. If filling high pressure cylinders the pressure pot must be set for this warmer LN2 FX1 *TB1 - Line - Valve - Sensor **TB2 - Remote Relay - Optional weight scales Model 269DF-LCF-LCF/WS 3
MODEL 269DF-LCF-LCF/WS INSTALLATION Wallmount the 269DF in a convenient location, preferably at eye-level. Connect the Transfer Hose to the LN2 input from theln2 supply tank Connect the LN2 Output Hose to the Liquid Out 117vac Power: Connect Power Cable to the ground lug and L - N terminals. MODEL 269DF-LCF-LCF/WS OPERATION Open LN2 Supply line Insert the probe into the neck of dewar making sure the TIP (end) of the sensor probe is to the depth at which shut-off will occur. Turn Key Switch to FULL (CW) to the ON Position. Note: The POWER and the STOP lamp will light. Press the START Button. The STOP lamp will go out and the FILL lamp along with the Solenoid Valve will activate. LN2 will begin flowing into the dewar. Note: The STOP button can be pressed anytime after Start filling, stopping the filling cycle. Once the LN2 has reached the tip of the sensor probe, the system will automatically stop. If more LN2 is required to complete filling the dewar, pressing and holding in the START button will allow filling to continue. Releasing the button will STOP the filling cycle. REMOTE RELAY CONTACTS: The system is supplied with 2 amp DRY contacts that can be used for other signal applications. (ex. Inhouse monitoring or alarm system) Terminals marked COM-NC-NO are determined with the power OFF. Relay transfers as soon as filling cycle starts. Model 269DF-LCF-LCF/WS 5
Proposed model for R4. MODEL 269DF MODEL 269DF MODEL 269DF - DEWER FILLING THEORY OF OPERATION: With the LN2 properly connected to the supply tanks, connect transfer hose along with its sensor cable to the filling station. Allow the transfer hose to hang into the neck of the dewer, position the tip of the sensor at a level which the Stop Filling is required. Pressing the Start Button will activate the flow of LN2 into the dewer. When the LN2 has reached the sensors tip, filling will stop. If more liquid (LN2) is required, press and hold the Start Button IN, until desired level is reached. TRANSFER HOSE CABLE CLAMP (2) SENSOR TIP PHASE SEPARATOR Model 269DF-LCF-LCF/WS 6
MODEL 269LCF-LCF/WS Model 269LCF/WD uses two (2) shut off signals: 1. Thermistor 2. Weight Scales (0-10 volt) Either signal will shut off the flow of LN2 LIQUID CYLINDER FILLING Operation: Filling will stop when either the LN2 is venting across the sensor or when the weight has been reached. If the LN2 vents across the sensor before the selected weight has been reached, filling will stop or filling will stop if the weight has been reached first. Pressing Start Button Manual Filling Continue using the START button, only if the Filling Sensor has not been reached. Once the weight and sensor level have been reached, the Start button will no longer work. Disconnect scales. Note: If the weight scale is no longer needed, locate the solid state relay (RY3) inside the cabinet and remove wire from Relay #1 terminal and join it with terminal #2. (See electrical drawing) Pressure Pot Adjustment: If the supply of liquid nitrogen (LN2) pressure is greater than 40 PSI, the pressure adjustment control will need to be adjusted clockwise (CW). As liquid nitrogen pressure increases the temperature of the liquid becomes warmer and requires a different shut-off point for the controller. Adjustment: If liquid nitrogen continues to flow after the sensor is in LN2 or LN2 is blowing from the systems ventport, slowly turn the pressure adjustment CW until the filling stops, move the adjusmtnet a few more degrees CW. MODEL 269DF-LCF-LCF/WS TESTING FOR OPEN PROBE CONTROLLER OPERATION WITH OPEN PROBE: (Broken Thermistor) The system will operate as through the PROBE is under liquid nitrogen (LN2), (ex. Pressing the START BUTTON will cause the system to Start Filling, but will STOP as soon as the button is released.) TESTING FOR OPEN THERMISTOR: Unplug Sensor Probe from Circuit Board U2. Using an OHM meter, measure across terminals 5-6 of TB1 if the tip of the sensor probe is in free air, the OHMs reading should read 10 OHMs, if no reading - the probe is OPEN. CONTROLLER OPERATION WITH SHORTED SENSOR PROBE: The system will continue to over fill past the tip of the sensor, even when the Press to Start button is pressed TESTING FOR SHORTED SENSOR PROBE: Unplug Sensor Probe from Circuit Board U2. Using an OHM meter, measure across terminals 5-6 of TB1, if the sensor is under liquid nitrogen the sensor should read 30000 OHMs Model 269D 10
