THE OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER OF THE NEW HAMPSHIRE AMATEUR BALLROOM DANCERS ASSOCIATION Footnotes JANUARY 2009 VOLUME 22, ISSUE 1 President s Message Greetings friends of NHABDA: As I write this, I am knee deep in snow and wrapping paper! But by the time you receive it, the holidays will be over. I hope that whatever you celebrate that it was wonderful for you and yours. What a great evening at our last dance on November 29th. The weather was perfect unlike what we ve been having the past two weeks. Every time we d bump into friends, the first question was: Got power? We were lucky because we have a generator. This was the first thing we purchased when we bought our house 11 years ago and this was the most use it ever got! We had over 130 people attend the dance. It was a great way to dance off those extra calories from Thanksgiving and prepare for the December holidays. I want to thank Betty Ouellette for teaching the Loop Twinkles for the lesson. Also a big thank you to everyone for participating in the Whiskey/Rye/Soda game at the band s break. It looked like everyone enjoyed and were able to dance with someone new. It was a mini-mixer. We also held our annual election of officers. Ray James, Joe Hannaford and myself have agreed to stay on for another three years. I want to welcome and thank Nancy and George Scott and Theresa and Chuck Piper for coming on board. To the newcomers, you ll love your fellow board members and being a vital part of this fine organization! Trilogy did a fantastic job. We had quite a few people stay until the end of the dance. Those who did, thank you for helping us clean up. I big thanks goes out to everyone who participated in the raffle. We collected $234.00 for the gift certificate from Patterson Dance Shoes. A donation was given to St. Joseph s Meals on Wheels for that amount. We also collected 75 lbs of food and $5.00 which Joe brought over to the NH Food Bank in Manchester the following week. Santa performed a swing with me again this year and it was surely a crowd pleaser. A lot of residents were so thankful for our return. One woman told me that we made her day. That s what this committee is all about. It s great to walk away from a nursing home with a huge smile on your face. That morning at church our priest was talking about making people happy and doing good deeds. Well Joe and I did that day and it was painless. Our annual board of directors dinner meeting will be in January. At this meeting positions will be filled, plans for 2009 will be ironed out, and much reminiscing will be done as three board members will be leaving our group Sue and Bruce Stevens have done quite a lot of work for NHABDA over several years and Gerry Ouellette has served the longest. (I m right behind him though.) Thank you all for your dedicated service to NHABDA. Without you, I don t want to begin to think of where NHABDA would be. The next NHABDA dance is scheduled for Saturday, January17th at Academy. Joe Butera will be the DJ for the evening and Paper Moon will be teaching us a waltz lesson and performing in the showcase. Lois Ireland, our Lessons & Showcases chairperson, has been home recovering from surgery. She has assured me that 2009 lessons and showcases will all be fantastic. The next Outreach is Sunday, January 11th at Villa Crest on Hanover St. in Manchester. Please let Joyce Wilson know if you would like to participate. Take care and let s hope for a better year for everyone in 2009. As always, Cheryl Who first said these? Keep your chin up and Put your best foot forward. Tango experts say it may take a life time and a half to REALLY learn the Tango, but whatever you master is great for your well being.
