A Note From The Director Band Friends, Parents & Supporters, Thank you for an outstanding month of October. It has been quite a challenging month from a weather standpoint. From the gusting winds of the Akron, OH Regional to the PIMBA North Eastern Storm and a lot of rainy days in between. I am happy to say though that the Norwin Band is doing a fantastic job this season. The students have adapted to the season and change in climate quite well. We had a strong showing at the Akron OH Regional and for the first time since 2005 the Norwin Band takes home the PIMBA National Class Championship. To everyone who worked the PIMBA show I cannot thank you enough for your efforts on October 29, 2011. Nowhere else in the country could we have pulled off a change of such magnitude at the last minute. To everyone who spent time working on clearing the stadium field --- it warmed my heart to see you all working so hard to allow the show to go on. I am sorry that the weather did not work in our favor. Many thanks to the school district for being adaptive and allowing us to make some
adjustments to allow the show to continue at the band practice field. I was in contact with the administration throughout the decision making process and can say that they did everything that they could to support our efforts. Keep some things in mind about how PIMBA championships unfolded. A high school stadium is not equipped to handle that amount of snow like Heinz field might be. Because this time of year snow storms are unexpected. The decision to move to the practice field by myself the band aides and PIMBA was purely for the students involved with each of the bands to give a championship performance. The district accommodated this choice by moving as many bleachers as they could and bring trash cans over. The Norwin Band Aides did not charge tickets for the event because the seating was insufficient. Instead we encouraged people to watch their band in the stands and move to allow other band families to watch their high school band. With the amount of snow on the stadium field as well as the dropping temperatures the safest choice to allow the show to continue at all was to move to the practice field. There was no option of rescheduling as it involves too many variables for many different schools. This was the only decision that would allow the show to continue in any form. All of the band directors and their staff were grateful that we were willing to persevere to allow the students involved with PIMBA bands to experience some form of a finale championship performance. In short, I am so impressed with this organization and the people that are involved. This is only a reminder of how truly special the Norwin Band Aides are. Students! THIS IS IT! The final push to GRAND NATIONALS! For the last 5 years I have given out a survey at the end of marching band season and each year the bands wished they were going to Grand Nationals! GUESS WHAT! YOU ARE! This is an exciting time. The finish line is just around the corner. Push to the end and love every minute of it! Sincerely, Robert Traugh, Director of Bands Norwin High School Band Program in Running for $50,000 Grant NORTH HUNTINGDON, Penn., November 1, 2011 - The Norwin Band Aides, a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization supporting the Norwin High School Band Program, enter national $50,000 grant competition through the Pepsi Refresh Project. During the month of
November, Norwin supporters simply need to click and text their vote each day to help overcome the financial challenge of purchasing uniforms. With the significant recent growth of the Norwin High School Band Program membership, as well as the rising financial constraints of the school districtʼs resources, the Norwin Band Aides will use the grant to offset the high cost of purchasing new, much-need uniforms. During a time when school districts across America are charged with doing more with fewer resources, we look to purchase uniforms without impacting the current academic curriculum, said Director of Bands Robert Traugh. The Pepsi Refresh Project is a perfect opportunity to engage our students, parents, school district and community to make a real difference. How to Vote Each Day 1.
