Endurance Area Endurance Training day at New Park with Amanda Barton Contact for all endurance rallies: Amanda Barton 07710 042540 Amanda@amandabarton.com This rally is for all riders whether they are new to endurance or have previous experience. This day is different and additional to the Area training day run in April 2017 with a different structure, new material and a different ride route. Children will ride both morning and afternoon. Young riders find it hard to take responsibility for their own map reading and make decisions about the speed to ride so we will be doing some dismounted exercises and a mounted practice ride in the morning to practice judging the speed to ride for endurance rides; what is too slow and what is too fast, how to measure heart rates and why these matter, how to read an endurance ride map, crewing riders (this is for parents!) and what to do at checkpoints. In the afternoon we will practice presenting ponies to the vet and ride a practice ride in the New Forest of approximately 7-10km. All children of 12 and under need to be escorted, this could be with a ridden escort or by bike. Children of all ages are welcome so long as they can walk, trot and canter confidently in an open area. There will be rosettes for completion of the ride and you will earn your Introduction to Endurance Badge. As this is Area 13 and 14 training, members from other branches will also be attending this rally. R127 Wednesday 11 April New Park, Brockenhurst, SO42 7QY 10am 4.30pm 25 Forest Pleasure Rides A fun ride for our younger members. Join us for a fun pony/dog/parent walk/ride of about 5km to 10km. All children must be accompanied, the fun rides usually take about 2 hours. Depending on who signs up, parents could escort children on horseback or we can take two groups if numbers and escorts allow. (Please note that we can ONLY escort junior children at a ratio of 1 adult to 2 children so if you want to do a longer ride you will need to provide a ridden escort or make arrangements with another parent to escort your child.) R128 Tuesday 29 May Wilverley Car Park 9.30am 3 Pony Club support at a local Endurance GB ride of 13km or 22km Members of the Endurance team will be riding at Rockbourne on Sunday 10 June (EGB Three Rivers Ride) and will be available to support and advice before you set off. This is a lovely, local ride at a familiar venue and a great place to try out an Endurance ride. Let Amanda know if you are interested (amanda@amandabarton.com) and she will help you with online entries with EGB and ensure that you know what you need to do in preparation for the ride and on the day. Endurance is a family activity and parents need to get involved to provide ridden escorts, crew support and help with planning. All children under the age of 13 need an adult (over 18) mounted escort at a ratio of 1 adult for every 2 children who want to ride. We will not be riding together in a group as Endurance ride organisers do not welcome huge groups of riders, however we can provide support with entries and advice on the day so that you are fully prepared before you go off on your ride. Unfortunately, for insurance reasons, children under the age of 8 cannot take part in EGB rides. The details of the ride: Venue: Tenantry Farm, Rockbourne, Nr Fordingbridge, Hants, SP6 3PB More info at https://endurancegb.co.uk/main/three-rivers/ride-info 8
