A CELEBRATION OF OLYMPIC PROPORTIONS 2016 has been an incredibly exciting year for Leeds and its athletes, we couldn t be more elated to celebrate the achievements made at our annual awards ceremony in the heart of Yorkshire. The 2017 Leeds Sports Awards will showcase Leeds sporting superstars and their accomplishments, from the Olympics and Paralympics in Rio, to the inaugural Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon in Leeds, and all the highlights in between. The array of sporting success in 2016 has put our Leeds sporting superstars in the limelight more than ever. From the Brownlee brothers triumph in the World Triathlon in Leeds and another great season for Yorkshire Country Cricket Club, to the phenomenal performances of all our athletes at the Olympics and Paralympics, it s difficult not to be inspired by the sporting talent that Leeds has nurtured. It s fair to say that the sports heroes are not only those in trainers, but also the volunteers and coaches supporting every step of all Leeds athletes, at all levels. Leeds Sports Awards is an awards ceremony dedicated to not only the elite sportspersons or teams, but to the continuous spirit and motivation of our coaches and volunteers at all levels of sport which makes Leeds the celebrated sporting hub that it has become. Previous award winners include; Nicola Adams MBE (Boxing), the Brownlee brothers (Triathlon), Jack Laugher (Diving), Lizzie Armitstead (Road Cycling), Hannah Cockroft MBE (Wheelchair Racing), City of Leeds Diving (Diving), Leeds Rhinos (Rugby) and Yorkshire County Cricket Club (Cricket) amongst many other professional and amateur athletes, volunteers, coaches and more. With our partners support, Leeds Sports Awards can continue to develop future and upcoming achievers, alongside cherishing those who have already succeeded.
A FITTING STAGE FOR LEEDS BIGGEST YEAR YET For such a special year of sporting achievements in Leeds, we figured there was no other option than to celebrate them in an equally special venue. Although New Dock Hall has served Leeds Sports Awards fabulously over the past three years, we thought we would up the ante in 2017 and will be holding the event at the first direct arena, the pride and joy of event hosting in Leeds. Having been named the Best New Venue in the World 2014 by the Stadium Business Awards, this prestigious venue will certainly deliver in providing spectacular commemorations for the Leeds sporting community.
