Chairman s Report Woohoo! What a great first month we ve had to Nippers in 2016! Despite the lake remaining closed we have managed to hold water events and or proficiencies every Sunday of the season so far. All of our new and returning Nippers seem to have settled into their Sunday morning routine quite nicely. As have our awesome group of Age Managers, many of whom are new to their roles and didn t know what they were taking on! You can read about this and more in the Age Managers updates in this month s newsletter. At this stage it looks like the lake will be off limits for Nipper activities till after Christmas, you ll appreciate that this is beyond the control of the Nipper Committee and our Age Managers. If you have concerns about the quality of the lake water or want to know when we ll be able to play in it again, please direct them to Northern Beaches Council. Meanwhile we ll continue to utilise the beach and the pool. As mentioned in last month s newsletter, we are trialling Team App for communicating with Nipper parents and highlighting upcoming events. We d love your feedback on this app and how we can improve its functionality. For those of you who haven t downloaded it yet, the app is free from the App Store / Android store. Once you ve downloaded Team App, search for North Narrabeen Nippers and ask to join. The Nippers Halloween night was a big success this year, thanks to all of those Nippers, friends and parents who attended and helped to make it a great night! Speaking from personal experience my kids were stoked to be able get face painted, eat sausage sandwiches with their mates and dance the night away at the disco. The Halloween Night could not have been a success without the help of Parents, Age Managers and Committee Members helping out big thanks to all of you, the kids had a ball. Coming up this month, we have our first Twilight Nippers on Saturday 26 th November from 3pm. This will be followed by a kids disco in the club house and a BBQ with lots of kids and adult refreshments. We hope you can join us for this event. Importantly, Nippers will NOT be held on Sunday 27 th November that s right you get to sleep in. Co-Chair Dave, filling in as Age Manager Additionally, this month we are starting the first of our Surf Education lessons for the kids. This will commence with U6 Nippers (both boys and girls) and progress to cover all ages over the season. These sessions are designed to give nippers a good understanding of the beach environment and teach them how to remain safe at the beach.

Parents, think you can swim? Each Sunday (weather permitting), there is an open water swimming event (and occasionally a board paddle event). These handy-capped events are open to all members and associates and it s a great way for our kids to cheer on Mum and Dad as they compete against other Mums and Dads. Last week the swimmers were even joined by a pod of dolphins! Meet at the flags at 11am On the competition front, a Big Congratulations should go to Keeley Holmes and Isaac Sherrif for their great individual results at last weekend s Queenscliff Carnival. Keeley (U11 Girls) took away 1st Place for 1km Beach Run and 4th Place in Flags, whilst Isaac (U10 Boys) picked up 3rd Place in 1km Beach Run and 2nd in the Flags! Great results, we are all very proud of you. Roll Calls For the safety of our kids the Nipper roll is called prior to events starting and at the end of all daily events. Can we ask that parents please inform the relevant age manager if you need to take your child out of Nippers early. We have had a few instances were Age Managers have not been informed that a child is leaving their care, and we have spent time trying to track down the missing child. Not cool. Please keep your Age Manager informed. Age Manager s are regular Mums and Dads who have volunteered their time to help your kids at Nippers. Please stay with your child s nipper group when on the beach, your kid will be stoked that you re watching them and who knows you might have some fun yourself. Once again on behalf of the Nipper Committee, we hope you are having a fun-filled season and we look forward to meeting you on the beach each Sunday. Cheers, Dave Johnson Co Chairperson NN Nippers Photo: Mathew Ingersole Narrabeen Amateur Swim Club provides 10min one on one swimming lessons by qualified AustSwim instructors Saturday mornings 9am-11am from the 19th November til 25th of February. Cost for the season of swimming lessons is $30. See http://www.narrabeenasc.com.au/learn-to-swim for more information.

Halloween Disco The Halloween Disco at North Narrabeen was a fun night for the kids, that was well attended. DJ. JORDAN had the kids entertained with her energetic music and Maria from SILLY CHEEKS Face Painting had the kids all looking great with her magical paint. Thanks to Bakers Delight for supplying the bread! And thanks to all the parents for helping out on the BBQ and for setting up the awesome decorations. Events like these are important fund raisers for the club! Photo: John Perry Queenscliff Beach Carnival A small group of dedicated kids represented North Narrabeen in the Queenscliff Beach Carnival on Sunday the 30 th of October. Congratulations Keeley (U11 Girls) 1st place 1km Beach run Isaac (U10 Boys) 3rd place 1km Beach Run Keeley (U11 Girls) 4 th place flags Why Keeley Loves the Queenscliff Carnival Photo: Donna Holmes I love this carnival because they have a 1 km run which most carnivals don't have. I also like doing flags because I get to see all my friends I have made from other surf clubs and compete against them. Keeley Holmes, U11 Girls Thank you to the U8 s Boys & Girls Parents The BBQ is a major fundraiser for the club! A huge thankyou to both the U8 s Boys and Girls parents for making the first two BBQ s of the season a great success! As you can see from the pictures the more parent helpers, the more successful and fun the BBQ is. Each age group gets a turn once during the Nippers season & it really is a fun way to get to know the other parents. The BBQ begins serving at 10.30am, after Nippers. Photos: John Perry

Surf Swim Training Saturday s 10.15am meet on the beach side of the Clubhouse For 9 s Nippers and up who are water proficient & keen to improve their surf swimming competitiveness to represent North Narrabeen at the carnivals. Maddi, the clubs surf swim coach, has been taking the kids through race starts & surf swimming. Our Nippers are working hard and having a great time! Special thanks to the North Narrabeen Life Savers for being in the water with the kids. Photo: Brooke Love Board Training Thursday s at 5.45pm meet by the board room at the side of the clubhouse Again, for 9 s Nippers and up who are water proficient & keen to improve their board skills to represent North Narrabeen at the carnivals. Bodi Smith, the clubs board coach and Darren Marshall, have been taking the kids out on the lake to build their confidence & skills on the boards. The kids have a great time and again they work hard! Thanks to the Senior Club for their financial support purchasing the 6 new fibreglass boards for our U11 s & up. Our Club Aim Our aim at North Narrabeen is to educate our children to be competent and safe on the beach and using surf equipment. Surf knowledge and techniques are gradually introduced to the children in relation to their age and ability.

Age Managers Reports Under 6 Girls Mathew I. 23/10/2016 A great turn out with over 30 girls showing up on a very windy day with challenging surf conditions. Despite this, the girls did really well running up and down the sand dunes, through the obstacle course, with the flags and on the boards in the lagoon. Was especially great to see so many of the girls paddling up on their knees, especially Giaan, Lucca, Eva and Maddison - future lifesavers in the making! Under 7 Girls Photos: Kate Kiely 30/10/2016 With beautiful weather and all the above 8's having a points day, the U6 Girls Nippers headed down to the lagoon end of the beach for their run through the sand dunes and then flag races. It was great to see some of the parents suggesting and helping set up a relay race for the kids before we headed over to the pool and practiced a short swim the proficiency dive. Great swimming by Fin, Arwen, Charlotte and Yasmin. Again, was great to see so many parents in the water helping - definitely helps when we have near on 50 kids to watch! Age Managers Reports Under 8 s Boys Troy A & Richard J. It has been a great start to the season for the Under 8 boys. We have a very enthusiastic group this year and so far we have had 22 boys involved. All the boys have now completed their water proficiencies so we are now ready to hit the surf in the coming weeks. Thanks for all the parents that helped out and made the first BBQ of the season such a success. Thanks also to the parents for helping out on the sand and in the water. It makes the experience much more enjoyable for the kids when everyone joins in. Under 7 Boys We had our first points day this week and it was great to see our focus in previous weeks on the start of the flags paid off with a clean start to every run. Congratulations to all the boys and a special mention to those who managed to gain the first points of the season. Well done Bailey, Charlie, Jack, Jake, Koby, Luca and Oliver! Looking forward to the rest of the season and hoping it's an enjoyable and memorable experience for all the boys. Please feel free to come and speak to myself of Richard if you have any questions or suggestions. Photos: Sarah Woods U9 Boys Peter G After 4 weeks of nippers, the Under 9 boys have settled into the routine. There was a good level of competition today at the point score with Tai, Stan, Aden and Cooper all performing well in the flags and beach sprint. We will endeavour to spent more time in the water to improve the boys swimming and paddling skills. More parents are welcome to hangout and help out on the Sunday morning.
