Headed up by Rob and Sue Emerson, and John Zaborsky, LIYC won the Judges Special Award plaque. They were assisted with three days of effort by Mike and Juli North, Jim and Shanley Lett, Mike and Mary Rey, Bob and Lynn Hall, and two Emerson grandsons. The Special Effort Award goes to John Zaborsky, who donated his carport, his boat, his tractor and his tools, hosted the work parties, fabricated the mast, then also drove the float! A big thank you to Dave McRoberts for hosting the Fisherman Bay Raft-up. Dave not only provides the host boat and raft, but also manages to ferry the non-boat attendees back and forth to the land docks. Our North Cruise is about to get under way organized by Rear Commodore Rob McNeil. With as many as 17 boats making reservations for all or some of the itinerary stops, Canada will surely know LIYC is having a joyous time. As we cruise into and out of Canada, we should be quite thankful that we have a Peace Arch between our two countries. Bring a gallon of sun lotion. Enjoy your summer cruising. Commodore Bob Newsline Editor Shanley Lett 468-3990

new MEMBER application: Dusty and Michelle Forster have applied for membership in the Lopez Island Yacht Club. Dusty and Michelle split their time between Everett and Lopez, where Dusty has a long history. Dusty s great grandfather, Bill Gallanger, moved to Lopez in 1889, and his grandfather, Frank Gallanger, was born on Lopez in 1907. Dusty s mom, Marie Gallanger, was also born on Lopez (1934). He has been coming to Lopez every summer since he was born in 1962. Dusty s grandfather owned property all over the island and his family still has some of it today. The Forsters currently have a house on Davis Point, where they moor their boat, a 22 Bayliner Trophy, during the summer months With over 30 years of boating experience, the Forsters enjoy fishing, crabbing, shrimping and sightseeing. We look forward to meeting the Forsters at an upcoming yacht club event. Please introduce yourselves and welcome them at our next LIYC function.

ANOTHER AWARD WINNING FOURTH OF JULY FLOAT FOR LIYC This year s theme was Small Island, Big Heart. LIYC won the Judges Special Award.
