Is your boat ready for winter? Recently Scram was seen on the hard at IMC. When the owner Doug Cram was asked about the issue, he said, It has two engines, so we pull it out twice a year. I think he was kidding. Noted at the October meeting, David and Judy Welker picked up a new ride, moving from their 27 foot boat to a 32 footer. Mike Deach picked up his welcoming new member bottle of champagne and Mike and Barbara Morey picked up a new LIYC burgee for display on Jackson Lake. Staff Commodore Jerry couldn t remember the state or name of the lake where Mike was planning on displaying the burgee, so he telephoned him. After a short conversation where Mike explained Jackson Lake was in the Grand Tetons, Mike said, You know, I m in Italy. Oh, said Jerry, well, I hope you are having a good time. We are. said Mike, Goodbye. After hanging up, Jerry suddenly wondered what time it would be in Italy. The time there was 12:11 am. Suddenly chagrined, Jerry said, I guess I better not call him back to apologize. October s meeting featured Russ and Jonelle Johnsons beautiful photos and entertaining descriptions of a ten year adventure: locating, purchasing, and outfitting a canal barge named Baby and then touring the beautiful canals of Europe. Their stories of people and places complemented the entire presentation and provided LIYC members a glimpse of exciting boating possibilities in another part of the world. The evening was hosted by Gordie and Barbara Rydberg with help from Ross and Anne Worley. The group decorated in autumn colors and Halloween theme. Cont. on page 3

3 COMMODORE S CORNER, continued Barbara brought home baked nautical cookies and cleverly made spiders. The event was attended by our usual large crowd, packed into an almost overflowing room, enjoying a delicious Italian buffe prepared by the Islander staff. Gary Nelson and Betty Drumheller were introduced as prospective members, and they are co-hosting November s potluck with Sam and Gayl Beller. That evening s presentation will be An Alaskan Cruising Adventure by Joe and Judy Thornton. Joe is an experienced boater and had traveled north before. Some of their s sent back during the trip indicate you will be interested in viewing and hearing about their trip. In November, we will also hold our annual election for the 2013 LIYC Board. Be sure to be there to cast your vote (and eat and visit and enjoy another great LIYC potluck). Before setting out on their Alaskan adventure, Joe and Judy prepared their boat for an extended trip into northern waters. That brings me back to the start of this disclosure. Is your boat ready for winter? Diana WELCOME NEW MEMBERS John Zaborsky and Joyce Loewen and Gary Nelson and Betty Drumheller have met all requirements for LIYC membership. Please welcome them at an upcoming LIYC event. For those of you who haven t yet met Gary and Betty (pictured below), you will all be able to at the November general membership meeting. Gary and Betty will be co-hosting the meeting with Sam and Gayl Beller. NOTICE OF BY-LAW CHANGE The LIYC Board is proposing the following addition to the club s By-Laws to clarify procedures for prior members who wish to rejoin. The current Article IX, Sec. 4 Dues and Initiation Fees reads, Any member Not in Good Standing as of March 31 will be required to pay 50% of the current initiation fee plus the yearly dues to be restored to the status of a member In good Standing. The Board would like to add, This provision will also apply to prior members applying for reinstatement. Voting on this amendment by the membership will be held at the November General Membership Meeting. Voting for the Slate of Officers for 2013 will also be held at the November meeting HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
