Proceeds from the auction will go to benefit The Muscatine County Endowment. Don t Forget Your Write-Up Don t forget to do a write- up report on your fair exhibits. Information to include in the report can be found in the fair book on page 7, item #11. The writeup doesn t need to be long but it should be easy to read. Adding pictures of you completing each project is always a nice touch with the judges. 3

FAIR INFO. Using Pinterest Pinterest is a popular site for 4-H ers to use for gathering ideas for fair exhibits. Make sure to cite the correct site where you got the idea for your project and not just Pinterest itself. Fair Book is Available The 2018 Fair Book is on the Muscatine County Extension Website!!! You will be able to print the complete fair book or only the divisions you need. Copyright and 4-H Exhibits As you prepare exhibits for the fair, you need to be particularly aware of copyright rules. Exhibition of derivative works created by a 4-H er is prohibited without the written permission of the original copyright holder/owner. Use of copyrighted or trademarked designs, images, logos, or materials in 4-H exhibits is prohibited unless written permission has been obtained from the copyright or trademark holder/owner. For additional information, contact the Extension Office or see 4-H Exhibit Copyright Information Food Exhibitors: Is Your Exhibit Appropriate? 4-H ers planning to bring food exhibits to the fair should read the publication Inappropriate Food Exhibits for Iowa 4 -H Fairs 4H 3023 to insure their exhibit is appropriate to bring to the fair. Livestock Health Papers Reminder to all who are bringing any kind of animal to the fair from fish to beef! Before you can bring your animal(s) to the fairgrounds you must have a veterinarian look at it (them) and issue a certificate of inspection declaring a clean bill of health. Sheep must be inspected within 14 days of being brought to the fair, all other animals must have their health papers within 30 days. Failure to have health papers will exclude the exhibitor from being able to show their animal until it has been cleared by a veterinarian. The purpose of having health papers is to help stop the spread of diseases to the other animals exhibited at the fair. 4

FAIR INFO. Premier Exhibitor High School livestock exhibitors who exhibit beef, sheep, or swine are eligible to earn college scholarships through the Premier Exhibitor Competition held during the fair. Scholarships are awarded based on a written exam, an interview, a skillathon, (all held on July 16 at 6:00 pm in the 4-H Exhibit Building), and either your showmanship and live placing or if you have not entered a beef, sheep, or swine exhibit in the fair, then you can use your placing in the livestock judging contest. To enter, select the species in which you would like to compete in the Premier Exhibitor question when you make your entries in the FairEntry program. More information can be found in the 4-H/FFA fair book under Division OO. Dog Class information Next week, due to the holiday the majority want to have class on Thursday, July 5th and it will be held in West Liberty cattle barn 6pm until finished. The last dog class, will be held Wednesday, July 11th st 6pm until finished. We will have a doggie picnic (potluck please bring a dish, dessert or chips to Herdsmanship In addition to taking proper care of your animals, herdsmanship also includes keeping alleys and stall/pens clean and orderly. As you prepare for the fair, don t forget to plan ahead for the herdsmanship contest. Show pride in your club/chapter s livestock exhibits by hanging a club sign, having stall cards for all your club s livestock entries, and decorating your club s stalls/pens. Herdsmanship judges will wander through the barns at various times during the fair to score how clean clubs/ chapters keep their livestock. So you will want to stay on top of keeping your animals comfortable and their pens clean. Check out the Herdsmanship criteria in the fair book (Division LL). Attention Cattle Show Exhibitors The Fair board has requested that all Cattle remain either in the Barn or tie outs at all time. There will be no more individual pens set up outside where the trailers are parked. This is a safety hazard for the entire fair.if anyone has any questions or concerns, you may contact a fair board member. 5
