Dear Tryout Candidate, We are excited you have chosen Valdosta State University as your Institution for higher education. Tryouts for the 2018-2019 Season are set for April 14-15, 2018. The following packet will provide information for many questions you may have about trying out for the program. Please read thoroughly prior to calling or emailing questions. We are looking for dedicated candidates who are physically fit, lead a healthy lifestyle, and are able to present themselves in a professional manner. Judges will be looking for a balanced package of the following aspects: stunting and tumbling execution, performance energy, physical fitness, appearance, attitude/work ethic, social skills in a professional setting and the yearly commitment to our program. Although, we do not have specific height or weight requirements, those selected will be expected to maintain their tryout weight and appearance. All candidates must be accepted, currently enrolled students, or have a pending application to Valdosta State University prior to tryouts. Please make sure when you send in your application for tryouts that you can check off the following items to ensure your registration is completed. CHEER TENTATIVE TRYOUT SCHEDULE Schedule Subject To Change Visit www.vstateblazers.com for most up-to-date information PLEASE KEEP IN MIND, THAT THE TEAM WILL BE COMPRIMISED OF THE BEST COMBONATION OF ATHLETES, NOT NECESSARILY THE BEST INDIVIDUAL ATHLETES. Material Being Evaluated: FIGHT SONG AND BAND CHANT: Proper motion technique, placement and sharpness of motions, voice projection, and overall appeal. The Fight Song requires a standing tuck (if not available, perform with standing back handspring) and a stretch pop-off. The skills will be evaluated on their performance, level of difficulty and cleanliness. TUMBLING: Standing and Running Tumbling will be evaluated on execution and difficulty. The minimum requirement is a toe touch connected to a double back hand spring, however, a standing tuck is highly encouraged. FITNESS TEST: A series of fitness exercises will be performed including a mile run under 10 minutes. INTERVIEW: Ability to quickly and accurately answer questions about yourself and Valdosta State University. STUNTING: Flyers, Bases and Backspots must be able to perform full ups, switch ups, and dismounts from one legged body positions. If you are able to fly and/or base and/or backspot, please show all available positions. **BONUS** Top Girls that can perform level 5 or 6 baskets may do so the first day of tryouts.
