Across the country, people who depend on winter for their livelihood are feeling the heat. On the sidelines of skiing and snowboarding, a struggle to reverse rising temperatures is unfolding. Come see how climate change is already impacting communities that depend on winter sports, from Vermont to Wisconsin and the Rockies. and learn how ski towns and the snow sports industry are paving the way towards a clean energy future. Screening will be followed by a short presentation/update on the work of Citizens Climate Lobby, a nonpartisan organization working to pass national climate legislation. Why is it such a big deal? Dr. James Done is a climate scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), Boulder Colorado. As research lead for NCAR's Capacity Center for Climate and Weather Extremes Dr. Done works with stakeholders from the energy, water and insurance sectors to understand future weather and climate impacts. Dr. Done will indeed talk about snow! Snowy Range Ski Trip January 22-24 (Mon-Wed) Due to a Cancellation there is now room for a woman on the trip. Two nights at Old Corral Lodge in Centennial, WY (2 beds per room) $90.00 total with a $25 deposit. Balance is due 01/04/18. Adult lift ticket: $49, Age 70 & up = FREE. (161 miles, 2 ½ hrs.) With that in mind, please be aware of the following policies: The NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT guarantees your spot on the trip. Notify the leader promptly if you have to cancel, even if you have only paid the deposit and full payment isn t yet due. If something prevents you from going and a replacement can be found, the replacement person can reimburse you. Make out a separate check to Flatirons Ski Club for each trip, and write the name of the trip on the memo line. If you are paying for another person with your check that person needs to be identified on the memo line, as well. Balances must be paid by the due date. If a balance isn t paid by the due date someone from the wait list will take your place. SAVE THE DATE! Those wishing to do only a single day trip on Monday will have their own carpool and decide whether to ski Vail or BC. 2018 WINTER CRESTED BUTTE @ CRISTIANA GUESTHAUS FRIDAY JANUARY 26 - MONDAY JANUARY 29, 2018, TRIP ST $305.00 FINAL PAYMENT $255.00 DUE DECEMBER 7, 2017 The Winter Crested Butte ski trip is a 3-night, weekend trip with lodging at the Cristiana Guesthaus in downtown Crested Butte. This trip is full with one person on the waiting list. Downhill skiing is available at Crested Butte Mountain Resort and there are miles of cross country ski trails groomed by the City of Crested Butte (fee is charged) as well as trails near the ski area and farther afield. For a more detailed description of the trip, please see the article in the October 2017 FSC newsletter. The $305.00 trip cost includes lodging with continental breakfast. No ski lift tickets or XC trail passes are included. For those who have signed up and already paid the deposit, final payment of $255.00 is due on December 7 either at the meeting or by mail. Snow Mountain Ranch ruary 5 8, 2018 There is an opening on the nights of ruary 5th and 6th for a man! The accommodations are large cabins, which sleep approximately 15 people. The trip fee includes use of the YMCA facilities, meals, and lodging. Snow Mountain Ranch offers cross country skiing, snow shoeing, swimming, roller skating, arts & crafts, and many other activities. Attendees prepare breakfast and food is available to make sandwiches for lunch. Thanks, Beth. By then everyone will be ready for beautiful powder at an un-crowded spacious affordable area. Activities will include downhill skiing at Cooper or Copper and cross country and snow- shoeing at Cooper and around the Leadville area. The trip should cost approximately $85 for two nights with cooked breakfasts included. The hostel has country charm and a great atmosphere and we have always enjoyed our stay there (particularly our cocktail hours). Senior lift tickets $34 and $44 per day.
