Dear Media, Welcome to the Volvo Ocean Race. The Hague is the Ultimate Destination for the finish of the 2017-18 race. One of 12 host cities that the fleet have visited on their 45,000 nautical mile journey around the world that started on 22 October 2017 from Alicante, Spain. This is a practical guide to the digital and media facilities at the Race Village. The full official Media Guide for the Volvo Ocean Race 2017-18 can be found here Official Volvo Ocean Race The Hague website here There are many ways to follow the Volvo Ocean Race online, via our App and our social media channels, and there are many other tools and assets the media can access. Media Hub A central source of information about the race, results, history, the sailors. Image Library An archive of photos from our photographers and the Onboard Reporters on each boat. Broadcast Room Where broadcast media can access Video News Releases, live conferences with the boats, video from the Onboard Reporters and more. Press Releases & Video News Releases Alerts Sign-up for press releases, Video News Release alerts, Best Videos & Images alerts or Feature Opportunities. All media enquiries: press@volvooceanrace.com NB: IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR MEDIA - DRONES Media will not be permitted to use drones within the Race Village or over the race course area during arrivals, In-Port Race and any other sailing activity. Use of drones outside of these restricted times is permitted with relevant licence to operate. The Hague has gone from pit-stop to finish line. Having hosted the Volvo Ocean Race for the first time in a short but (very) sweet pit-stop in 2014-15, this famous city in the Netherlands will host the legendary race s finish in 2017-18. After sailing 45,000 miles around the planet, The Hague will be the Volvo Ocean Race fleet s ultimate destination and the arrival promises to be an unforgettable moment for both the sailors and thousands of spectators lining the dock. The eyes of the sailing world will be on Scheveningen when the boats, including Dutch entries team AkzoNobel and Team Brunel, finish in the harbour after nine months of intense competition. The Hague, international city by the sea. We want to give everyone the opportunity to get to know the city that we are so proud of. This media guide provides you interesting, innovative and unique stories about The Hague, and locations to visit. Like no other city in the Netherlands, The Hague offers a unique combination of city life and beach life. The Hague is home to Vermeer s famous Girl with a Pearl earring and to the world s largest collection of paintings by Mondrian. The city s two seaside resorts Scheveningen and Kijkduin boast seven miles of sandy beaches. Getting to the historic city centre only takes you fifteen minutes. The Hague s bustling downtown area has far more to offer than the landmarks Binnenhof, Noordeinde Palace, and Peace Palace. Boutiques, cafes, concert and dance venues, galleries, flagship stores, museums and restaurants offer something to everyone who loves culture, shopping and nightlife. The Hague is also the residence of the Dutch King, seat of the Dutch Government. 150 international organisations call The Hague home, including the International Court of Justice. Also many innovations are developed in The Hague these days. The Dutch have learned to be very inventive in the struggle against water. This is apparent from the many maritime innovations devised here, using our knowledge of coastal and water management. The Hague is also a world class sporting city used to host high profile events. The city hosted the 2014 Hockey World Cup and in 2015, as mentioned, the very short but sweet Volvo Ocean Race pit stop. Ambitions for the future are high, with numerous interesting events in the offing. In 2020 the Invictus Games will be held here and in 2022, besides hosting the Sailing World Championships, The Hague will also be the European Capital of Sport. Further information about the The Hague, the Ultimate Destination, can be found here. 4

How to find us The Race Village can be found on the sports beach of The Hague - Strandweg 4, Scheveningen. The closest airport is Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam. A regular train service runs from the airport to The Hague Central Station and while waiting for your luggage you can purchase a train ticket at the yellow machines. Alternatively, a taxi/uber transfer will take approximately 30 minutes. The easiest and most sustainable way to get to the Race Village is by the following route: from train station The Hague Holland Spoor you can take tram 11 towards Scheveningen Strand (beach) and get off at the Strandweg stop. From there it is about a 10 minutes walk. From Station Den Haag Centraal you can take bus 22 with HTM and get off at Duinstraat. From there it is a 8 minutes walk or you can change to tram 11. By far using a bike is the best mode of transport to and from the Race Village. OV bike: take the bike form the train station; The Hague s city bike: Rent a bike from a few point in The Hague; Bike storage: At the event there is a Bij het terrein is een bike storage. For a secured storage go to Bieskelette. There is limited parking available close to the Race Village. For further information on how to access the Race Village, Media Centre, Accreditation and to drop off equipment and parking options, please see the following pages and email info@volvooceanracedenhaag.nl for further information. 5

Parking for media is free, there is a daily limitation of passes which can be issued, if you require a pass for the day please contact nando@tigsports.nl The below pass will give you access to the Equipment drop off area through security - this is strictly a drop-off zone that needs to be left as quickly as possible, due to the very limited amount of space in that area, this will ensure the traffic flow for everyone. This will give you access to the equipment drop off point! 9

Please register for this group at the Media Centre or email amy.monkman@volvooceanrace.com On arrival the boats will dock at the pontoon, media access on the pontoon will be limited to priority media. Media pens on shore in front of the pontoons are available to media. Media interview opportunities will be coordinated with the relevant team Press Officer at the Sailors Terrace. A skippers press conference will be organised on the arrivals day. Timing to be advised, subject to the time of the last boat arrival. After the leg arrival, prize givings will be held on the main stage (timings will vary). A prize giving will also be held on the main stage after the Brunel In-Port Race. 12

Leg 11 Gothenburg to The Hague This is the last, and the shortest leg of the race at just 700 miles. It will start from Gothenburg on Sweden s west coast on 21 June and race south through the North Sea to The Hague. A mark has also been added off the Danish city of Aarhus, giving sailing fans an opportunity to see the boats in action, and up close and personal, as they complete the final sprint. It s Northern Europe and it s the summer, so this is less about climate and all about weather. The fleet could get anything from a slow crawl south in light winds, to an upwind slog in 35 knots. The Dutch are legendary offshore sailors, right back to Conny van Rietschoten the original Dutch Flyer and the only skipper to win back-to-back Volvo Ocean Race/Whitbread trophies. So you can expect an incredible welcome for the fleet in The Hague, especially if home sailors are winning... More info here 13

Finish of Leg 11 into The Hague REPLACE MAP The finishing line for the VO65 fleet is positioned just outside the harbour entrance. Once the VO65 boat has crossed the finish line they will proceed under motor to the pontoons at the Race Village. 14

Team AkzoNobel v Team Brunel Match Race 27.6.18 REPLACE MAP REPLACE MAP Team AkzoNobel and Team Brunel, the two Dutch-flagged rivals in the Volvo Ocean Race, are to face off against each other in final friendly duel at the race s ultimate destination, The Hague. From 12.00 on Wednesday 27 June, the two crews will compete in an exhibition 'match race' series on their home waters in front of what is expected to be thousands of Dutch sailing fans. 15

volvooceanrace.com Pro-Am Races 28 & 29 June REPLACE MAP REPLACE MAP Over the 18 and 19 June, there will be two Pro-Am Races each afternoon. Guests on board are invited exclusively by the teams. A Practice Race with media guests on board will be held on 28 June and the team AkzoNobel v Team Brunel Match Race on 27 June. On Pro-Am Race 3 on 29 June, His Majesty King Willem Alexander will visit the Race Village and participate in the first Pro-Am race of the day at 1215-1245. 16

Brunel In-Port Race 30.6.18 REPLACE MAP REPLACE MAP The Volvo Ocean 65 fleet will compete in the Brunel In-Port Race on Saturday, 30 June starting at 1400 local time and lasting approximately 50-60 mins. The In-Port Races are part of a series and can act as a tie-breaker to the Overall race if teams finish on equal points. 17

Legends Race Legends boats will race the final leg at the same time as those vying for the winner s trophy of the Volvo Ocean Race 2017-18, about 462 nautical miles from Gothenburg in Sweden to The Hague in The Netherlands, in June 2018. Since the start of the very first Whitbread Round the World Race in 1973, 12 races have been completed and to celebrate, legendary boats from any of the previous races are invited to join today s sleek ocean racers for an extravaganza not ever seen before. Round the world racing was a very new and very brave idea in the seventies. Some considered it impossible, but there were many who wanted to do something adventurous and, over the years, the race has become more successful than ever could have been imagined. The Legends Race will start on Thursday, 21 June, 45 minutes before the Volvo Ocean Race fleet start the final leg at 1400 local time. The Legends fleet ETA is Monday, 25 June. Full information will be released as it becomes available, so stay tuned in or contact us by email on legends@volvooceanrace.com Swedish ocean racer, Roger Nilson, a veteran of seven Whitbread Round the World/Volvo Ocean Races has become an ambassador to the Legends Race alongside legendary sailor Bouwe Bekking of the Netherlands who is currently competing in his eighth race as skipper of Team Brunel. Entries to date: VO60s (Volvo Ocean Race 2001-02): illbruck SEB Assa Abloy Amer Sports One VO70s: Telefónica Blue Ericsson 4 Green Dragon powered by UBOX Whitbread 60: Silk Cut (1997-98) Tokio II (1993-94) Rothmans, Maxi (1989-90) Neptune, 59 sloop (1977-78) and the first of his two Flyer yachts Flyer (1981-82) Copernicus (1973-74) Follow us on Facebook For a full list of competing yachts in the Legends Race: http://volvooceanracegoteborg.com/legends-race/ 18
