NOTTINGHAM INDOOR BOWLS CLUB NEWSLETTER Bernies Fun Night Sat March 12th QUIZ STICKY THIRTEEN CARDS BINGO FUN BOWLS RESTAURANT Thanks to DAVE and all the Kitchen Staff for the meals they provide during the week and also the dinners they put on for the weekend club friendly games HI All. Newsletter time again seems to have gone quick since the Christmas / New Year Break. We hope you are all back and enjoying your bowling.well somedays eh.( Ha Ha ) Thank you to all the members who have responded to our request to donate reading books for the club bookcase. Any members who would like to donate their unwanted books to the club please hand them into reception. These are then sold on for a minimal fee which goes into the club funds. With the amount of newcomers to bowls, members who have bowls equipment they would like to sell can advertise their items on the club newsboard. Many thanks to all those players that have returned their cups to the kitchen after they have finished playing. This really does help to keep the club tidy before the following session of bowls. Helpers are Required for Sat 20th and Sun 21st February 2016. The Indoor Centre are staging the National Pairs Visually Impaired Bowls Competition. Anyone who can help as a marker or score board operator please give your name and telephone number to reception and you will be contacted by the organisers. 1

There is still a demand for the beginners courses and a trickle of new members are arriving after each course. To encourage them to join we are once more offering anyone who joins now, 18 months membership for the price of a years. Negotiations with the council continue its tortuous way, more of this later. A big thank you to our manager Julie who found a serious water leak in the mens toilets on Christmas Eve and brought her husband in to repair it. A power cut over the new year break caused a problem with the heating system which he also fixed. Ernie Wray Chairman 2

Saturday Morning 8.30 am Open Triples League We have 8 teams in the league with a total of 54 players. Four rinks are used for matches and two rinks are used for players from the league for rollups. The other two rinks are used by Ted Riley for his beginners training courses. The total players for each team range from 6-7 players. The Captains have indicated to me that the current numbers of players per team that they have are adequate because at these numbers players get a reasonable number of games over the season. Our league is absolutely ideal for players coming into a league from finishing a training course. So it is disappointing that we have had to turn new players away so that current team numbers can remain at 6-7 players. The season so far has been very close and even in terms of results and there have been no team/s dominating the league. Results of matches have been unpredictable and very up and down which has been good in many ways. After 15 matches played the league (as at 22.01.16) looks like this:- Odd Jobs 19 points Zippies 19 points Early Birds 16 points Mixtures 16 points Charlies Angels 14 points Music 14 points Eccentrics 13 points Venus 9 points The Saturday league has been discussed at Bowls Executive meetings and it has been agreed unanimously that for the 2016/17 season I can look to increase the number of teams from 8 to 10. Therefore allowing me to bring in more new players to bowls and to our club. As I have done this current season, I will for next season need to rejig the current teams to spread out the experience of players over 10 teams so that new players can be integrated in a fair and equitable manner. Continued next page 3

Increasing the teams to 10 will primarily allow us to bring new players into a league team, it will provide more competition in terms of the number of teams playing and finally it will bring more revenue into the club. All being well for the 2016/17 winter season there will be 10 playing teams and hopefully 60-70 players. For the season 5 rinks will be used from 8.30 10.30 for league matches and 3 will be available for league players to have roll ups. The only exception to the rollup rink numbers will be as follows:- 1. One rink will be available to Ted Riley for training courses when required. (This may change subject to discussion with Ted nearer the new season.) 2. Any Adams matches that are arranged with a 10.00 am start will mean that two rollup rinks will be used for these matches. To compensate rollups on these occasions will be from 8.00 to 10.00 a.m. Julie, our Club Manager is very good when arranging Adams matches and in most cases she is able to arrange 10.30 am starts. Thanks Julie. Therefore, for the 2016/17 season from 08.30 10.30 on a Saturday the 8 rinks will be a closed shop for league matches, rollups for Saturday morning league players, Adams matches that start at 10.00 am and training courses. It has been agreed that the reception team will not take any bookings for club member s casual rollups for this period. Phil Morley Saturday League Coordinator/ Bowls Executive Committee member This years Club Indoor Tour is to The North East. The tour is 11th - 13th November 2016 and will include three matches, It was a really good Tour on our last visit to this area so anyone interested please enter your name onto the list which is on the Club Notice Board near the ladies changing rooms. 4
