Deliquification Options 2

Foamers How do Chemical Foamers work? Surfactant based products Reduces the density and surface tension of the liquid Lightens the liquid Reduces the critical velocity How does a Typical Injection System work? A timer is set to control the amount of chemical injected Pump keeps on pumping regardless of well conditions 3

Chemical Injection - Continuous Currently the preferred method of chemical foamer treatment Promotes steady & continuous gas flow Can be applied at the surface or through a capillary tube 4

Chemical Injection - Batch Wait Time Pump On Time Mix Time Pressure Check Time for well turbulence to settle before calculating slug size. Pump run time based on slug size, chem/slug ratio and pump rate. Time to allow chemicals to foam the liquid. If pressure is above a setpoint, the well opens. Setpoint #1 Setpoint #2 Setpoint #3 Fail Timer Time to allow the Cap Gas to be depleted. Time to allow the slug to unload. Detects a slug build up. If SP #2 is not reached before this timer expires, the well will close. 9

What s Better? Solar or Pneumatic Chemical Pumps Pneumatic Initial Cost is usually less Consumes gas to operate Exhaust gas to the atmosphere Adversely affected by dirty/wet gas Freeze up is common Supply gas pressure fluctuation changes output Discharge pressure fluctuation changes output Limited in technologies to make operational changes Solar Perfect for remote locations where there is no available power Green friendly. No emissions No concern about quality of supply gas No fluctuations in performance with changing pressures Proven performance reliable technology Communication, SCADA, monitoring options Multi-headed pumps provide more flexibility Feb. 27 - Mar. 2, 2011 2011 Gas Well Deliquification Workshop 12
