Triangle Section is hosting MBCA members from around the country to a Special National event on May 4-7, right in our own backyard in Pinehurst! To give you some perspective on how important this event is to MBCA, the only other MBCA Special National event this year is Legends of the Autobahn at the Pebble Beach Concours. So, I encourage all of you to make plans to go to Pinehurst and enjoy a fantastic weekend with fellow MBCA members, while supporting your Triangle Section and the MBCA. There will be additional information provided in this newsletter giving details and links to sign up for any of the MBCA activities and dinners during the four-day weekend. We had a great Pinehurst planning session and business meeting in February. There were about 20 members present and most volunteered to help during the Pinehurst weekend. As you know, it takes a lot of people to put on a successful four-day event. If you are going to Pinehurst and would like to help, please contact Bill Faison at 919-414-5197 or drcbill@aol.com and volunteer. Bill Faison has done an excellent job with the www.motorsportreg.com website to make it both informative and easy to register for the activities, dinners and to buy MBCA/PINEHURST shirts, hats and coasters. Also, Bruce Adams latest book W121 Coupe & Roadster is available only on this site for half price! OK, I got Pinehurst 2017 out of my system! Now on to other things. Another fun event coming up on May 19 is NCMA-MBCA Evening with Art & Mercedes. We will have 14 Mercedes on display around the courtyard between the two buildings. We will be set up outside for our members with drinks and small plates available to order from a NCMA staff member dedicated to us. A jazz band will be playing inside for your enjoyment as well. Members who attended last year had a great time and are looking forward to coming back this year. We still have plenty of open dates in the calendar so if any of you have an idea for an activity that you think our members would enjoy, please contact Bill Faison. I am sure that you have noticed that this newsletter has several ads in it this time. These are ads from our Dealer & Specialist Sponsors that are supporting us financially so that we can have more and better events for you. So, please make sure when you are visiting and buying from these sponsors and tell them that you are a MBCA Triangle member and appreciate their support of our club. As a bonus, some of these sponsors are offering special discounts for the Triangle members, so don t forget to ask for them when you are there. Please bring a friend or associate to our events and sign them up as a member! Steve

Tech Session at Mercedes-Benz of Durham By Rich Talach One of the initiatives for our Section in 2017 is to have closer ties to the M-B dealers who serve our area. Cars and Coffee was sponsored by Mercedes -Benz of Durham, NC and the Triangle Section. Our host and General Manager, Josua Vaughn, provided a wonderful venue and tasty eats for us to enjoy. All marques were represented, from classic Benz's, European, US and Asian brands, with a great turnout. The tech session provided helpful information, along with all the superior services provided by this new Rick Hendrick dealership. It was a great gathering with fun for all, and even mother nature cooperated with warm weather and sunshine in mid-february. Triangle Section members now receive 15% off all parts and service.

Amelia Island Concours By Bill Faison The four day event schedule for Amelia Island Concours started with a Bonhams Auction on Thursday. Friday s events were RM Sotheby s, Goodings and Hollywood Wheels Auctions, the Concours d Elegance Car parade in downtown Fernandina Beach and MBCA dinner. Saturday s schedule was Cars & Coffee at the Concours, RM Sotheby s, Hollywood Wheels and Motostalgia Auctions, MBCA Lunch and Dinner. Then Sunday the Concours was to be held as the Grand Finally of the 4 day event. Jeff Files with his Gullwing in the car parade Friday 1955 M-B 220 Coupe with original luggage Due to the 100% rain forecast for Sunday, the Concours d Elegance was moved to Saturday for the first time in 22 years along with all the other events that were scheduled for that day. This made for a very long day on Saturday with nonstop events taking place. Cars and Coffee had to be moved to other fairways across the street from the resort. Rather than parking clubs together car were park as they arrived on the field. This made for a mix of brands, but the mix gave you a chance to meet other car enthusiast from other clubs. The day was sunny but a bit cool for Northern Florida in early March. The MBCA was well represented with National Officers, Directors At Large and Regional Directors from around the country. Saturday night s MBCA dinner at The Crab Trap in Fernandina Beach was attended by 125 MBCA members. The Triangle Section members at the event were Tom Lewis, Alan & Nancy Goodman, Jeff Files, Dave Water and myself. Cars on the Cars and Coffee Show Field Continued on page 11

Amelia Island Concours Continued This 300SL was my favorite in the Concours 1937 M-B 540K We all had a wonderful time and plan on returning to this Bucket List event. The decision to change the Concours d Elegance to Saturday was a good move by the organizers, because the rain poured down Sunday morning!

Newsletter Article Submission There are a lot of things that make interesting articles for the TriStar News. It is helpful to other members to see write-ups and pictures for events that have significant Mercedes participation. Those articles allow them to decide whether they might want to participate in that event in the future. A full write-up or a few pictures and a little description are all it takes to get your article in the newsletter. Pictures and a history of your particular Mercedes can also make an interesting article. You can submit any of these topics to Rob VanDewoestine at rvandewoestine@nc.rr.com for publication. 5001 Swift Ridge Road Raleigh, NC 27606
