Dear 4-H Shooting Sports & Wildlife Instructors and 4-H Members: Welcome to another exciting year in the Minnesota 4-H Shooting Sports & Wildlife Program! We are looking forward to having you join us in Martin County (Fairmont) for the 2018 State 4-H Shooting Sports & Wildlife Invitational this year. The Minnesota State 4-H Shooting Sports & Wildlife Invitational is sponsored by the University of Minnesota Extension, the Minnesota State 4-H Shooting Sports & Wildlife Project Development Committee and the Minnesota 4-H Program. In this letter, you will find information about the registration process, where to find the rules and timelines and due dates. The Minnesota State 4-H Shooting Sports & Wildlife Invitational will be held at the Martin County Fairgrounds, Fairmont and Fairmont Trap Club on September 7-9, 2018. Directions to the fairgrounds are: From I-90, exit 99, County Hwy 39. Turn south for 1 mile. The fairgrounds are on the east side of the road. Parking is on the north side of the fairgrounds. The address is 1300 North Bixby Road, Fairmont, MN 56031. The Fairmont Trap Club can be located at fairmonttrapclub.org. State 4-H Shooting Sports & Wildlife Invitational Rules: The event rules have been sent to all 4-H Staff and posted on the Minnesota 4-H website. Please take the time to read through them carefully. Knowledge of the rules will help you prepare and equip all participants properly. The event rules can be found at http://www.extension.umn.edu/youth/mn4-h/events/shooting-sports-invitational/index.html. Registration Process: Any participant that does not have all forms signed when the Invitational begins will have their identification wristband held at the registration desk. Individual identification wristbands will be withheld, not the entire county. A participant must have all paperwork completed (signatures, etc.) before the wristband will be released. Registrations received in the county office after July 16th will not be scheduled and those participants will shoot all events on Sunday, September 9 th during the make-up rounds. Please read the information sheet carefully. Please note that counties MUST have a conservation or wildlife display (exhibit, game, demonstration, etc.), which MUST be conference judged with at least one of your delegates in order for the county to qualify for individual and team awards. (An exhibit previously displayed by an individual at county or state fair is not eligible.) These will be judged on Saturday. Please check the grade requirements to be sure all members are participating in the correct age division. Discipline instructors must sign off on each participant's individual entry form to certify that the youth are receiving instruction from a 4-H certified instructor in that discipline. Signatures are required on the registration form when submitted. Please take seriously the minimum standard of training hours required for our 4-Hers to participate at the 4-H Shooting Sports & Wildlife Invitational. The minimum hours of range and discipline instruction are an important safety standard we must maintain!! Please ensure youth are familiar with range commands, scoring and the expectations of each event. o Because registrations are due in July and youth may not have yet completed their hours of training, coaches are required to monitor the hours and will not allow a youth to participate at state shoot if they do not fulfill their hours prior to attending the state shoot. All air firearms (rifle and pistol) will be required to use a CBI (Clear Barrel Indicator) when the firearm is not being fired. Footwear policies: o o Any participant while on the shooting line or shooting in any outdoor shooting event is required to wear closed toe shoes that completely cover their feet. Rifle/Pistol Discipline ONLY low-cut street type or light weight athletic shoes are permitted; they must not extend above the ankle. Please see 2018 Rules for details.

Preliminary results will be posted periodically beginning Saturday afternoon. Please check your scores either Saturday evening or early Sunday morning. Bring any score discrepancies to the attention of staff in the scoring room. Staff will review targets/scorecards and verify disputed scores. The 4-H er is the only one who can discuss it with the score room officials. By September 18th (7 business days following the event) all scores and placings will be considered final. All team registrations are due on Friday, August 17th to the Worthington Regional Office. They may be faxed, emailed or mailed. Teams will be entered into the computer and then printouts will be posted on Friday at the Registration Desk. Please stop and check the team listing to be sure your county information is correct. Changes are allowed up until 7:30 a.m. Saturday. **However, if any participants will be shooting Trap, 3-Position Air or Archery on Friday night, changes to your Trap, 3-Position Air, and Archery team(s) must be made on Friday. No changes may be made to your Trap, 3-Position Air, and Archery team(s) after shooting begins Friday. There will be fun shoots for some disciplines; watch for details.
