PAGE 2 Plant ID Markers Installed at Central Park This week, Leisure Services Park Maintenance staff installed 16 plant identification markers along the boardwalk in Central Park. This is the final phase of the Central Park Plant Identification Project, which began earlier this year as the City partnered with Ms. Meri Albert s 2nd grade class from Pine Trail Elementary School, as well as Danny Young from Zev Cohen & Associates. A celebration event is scheduled for Friday, September 21st at 6 p.m. at the entrance to the park on Division Ave. Amazing World of Illusions The Amazing World of Illusions is coming to the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center on Saturday, September 22 nd, to perform one fun-filled show at 7:00 p.m. This family-friendly show is returning to Ormond Beach for the seventh year to dazzle audiences with magic, illusions, and comedy. Kendrix will perform his Las Vegas style, state-of-art illusions, along with his beautiful dancers. He bends the rules of logic while blurring the line between imagination and reality with his mastery of mind-bending illusions and magic. Comedy magician and illusionist Glen Foster will entertain the audience with his crazy magic stunts and never before seen illusions. He has performed for many of today s top Fortune 500 clients as well as on numerous cruise ships, including the maiden voyage of The Disney Dream, Disney s newest cruise ship. Special guests Serge, Aurika, and Alina from Russia will amaze with their sword balancing act and their incredible agility. Tickets are on sale for $10 at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center Box Office. The Box Office is located at 399 N. U.S. Highway 1 and is open Tuesday through Friday from Noon until 5:00 p.m., and two hours prior to all performances. To contact the box office, or order tickets by phone, please call 386-676- 3375.

PAGE 3 Casements Camera Club Opens 32nd Color Show The Casements Camera Club members hosted their exhibit opening reception on Friday night at The Casements. The evening celebrated the Club s 32nd annual Color Photography Show. Members and guests filled the gallery anxiously awaiting to hear the judges remarks and see who would be a winner for the evening. We consider all the members winners! The Casements Camera Club has been meeting monthly at Bailey Riverbridge and continues to welcome new photographers to their group. They host two annual exhibits including a black and white show in March. This exhibit will be on display for the month of September during regular business hours. Open Play Basketball at Nova Community Center Nova Community Center offers open play hours seven days a week for folks who enjoy getting out and playing basketball. The center is open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Most days there is a full court game in progress with five guys on each team. Two half courts are available for a one-on-one game or to warm up before a full court game. Recreation cards are free to residents living within the Ormond Beach city limits and day passes are $3.75 for all others. For more information, call the Nova Community Center at 676-3252.

PAGE 4 Happy Birthday Movies on the Halifax! Friday night marked the third birthday of Movies on the Halifax. Moviegoers piled into Rockefeller Gardens despite early evening rain showers to catch the featured movie Yogi Bear. Prior to the movie, cupcakes were passed out to the crowd to help celebrate the occasion. A special tribute to the Department of Leisure Services and The Casements Guild was mentioned, as their joint efforts made this free community event a reality in September 2009. The outdoor movies continue the first Friday of each month, weather and scheduling permitting. We look forward to another great year beginning next month, October 5th at 7:30 p.m. with the featured presentation of The Perfect Game. We hope to see you there! Challenger Soccer Has Begun Challenger Soccer met for its first practice of the fall season on Tuesday on Field #3 at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex. The season will run through October 16th with players practicing on Tuesdays from 5:00 to 6:00 pm. Nine players have registered for the team. The first practice began with various drills to get them warmed up. For the last 20 minutes, players were divided into two teams to play a game. It was an exciting game of boys versus girls, which challenged both teams to see who was the best. In the end, it was a tie game. The players are looking forward to next week to challenge each other once again! Challenger Soccer is run through the Special Populations Division of the Department of Leisure Services. For further information, please call Coordinator Lori Koplin at 386-676-3252.
