Hunting News 3 Campaign Preview HTML Source Plain-Text Email Details Hunting News 3 Dear friends and fellow hunters We have been having an incredibly busy hunting season and it is with great pride that we get to report on some of the wonderful hunts that we have had in the last couple of months. We are truly privileged to cross paths with such lovely people and that we have the honor of making their African dreams a reality! As you will see, our hunters have been doing a great job, taking down a wide range of antelope and a few buffalo. We also had the privilege of hunting a leopard with our good friend Jim Mercer and an elephant with Ray Penner. We have had the honor of hunting several animals with these two and we couldn't be prouder of them for these great trophies! https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1498473 1/30

What a sight! A gorgeous sunset over the great plains of Africa. Coggeshall Father and Son Safari We were honored to meet Beck Coggeshall at the DSC Convention back in 2017 and very excited when he let us know that he would be coming to join us on a hunt and bringing his father, Berry, along. After several months of planning, it was wonderful to finally welcome them to South Africa for a great father and son hunt! Beck has been dreaming of hunting in Africa from the very young age of 7 and we feel super lucky that we had this chance to make his dream come true. Beck was kind enough to send us a really nice report on his hunt... "The first animal I killed was an impala. I sat in a blind with Benji, the tracker, overlooking a watering hole. Toward the end of the day, I shot the impala with Drom's.223 with a silencer. I shot a blesbuckk with my.300 WSM. While stalking a herd of zebra, a herd of blesbuck ran by us. Drom spotted a nice ram, so we took the shot..." "The nyala is my favorite trophy from the trip. They were rather elusive, having seen them https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1498473 2/30

less than any other species we hunted. This particular one was the largest that we saw on the trip. We spotted him behind a bush while going down a dirt road. We got into position to get a good shoulder shot and dropped him at about 50 yards." "We spotted my kudu on top of a dike while driving around. He immediately ran so we turned the corner and he was standing behind some brush looking at us, presumably thinking he was concealed. I shot him at about 75 yards with my PH's.300 WSM and he ran about 75 yards before dying. I shot my warthog less than an hour later with the same gun at 125 yards. He ran about 75 yards and laid down to die. We went straight to him and when we got close, he got up and started running off and I shot him on the run. He was dead shortly after the second shot..." "I shot a zebra in the Free State at over 300 yards with a combination of my PH's.300 WSM and my dad's.308 Lazzeroni Warbird. The stallion was a very tough animal, taking several shots to take him down I also shot a gemsbuck at 325 yards with my dad's 308 " https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1498473 3/30

several shots to take him down. I also shot a gemsbuck at 325 yards with my dad's.308." Beck also had the chance to shoot a baboon and had a great time taking down one of these critters. https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1498473 4/30

Berry did some great hunting of his own, shooting a magnificent sable and a range of beautiful antelope. https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1498473 5/30

Like his son, Berry also took down a warthog, kudu and gemsbuck. Berry also shot a beautiful eland and a very nice waterbuck. https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1498473 6/30

A huge thank you to Beck and Berry for joining us on this great safari. We had a blast hunting with you guys and hope to see you again soon! Congratulations on your great trophies! Johnson Family Safari We were so happy to host Doug Johnson and his family on their first African safari. Doug was joined by his wife, Caroll, his son, Kyle and his daughter Rebekah, with her husband Kendal McNeely. https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1498473 7/30

Although hunting was on the menu, the focus of this trip was more on exploring some of what our great country has to offer and a trip to the Kruger National Park and Victoria Falls to boot! We had a great time showing the Johnson's our beautiful country. They are such a great family and we are privileged that they chose us to share their experience with. The Johnsons and McNeely's with tour guide, Natalie We started off in the Limpopo, where the first stop was the elephant sanctuary. It is a wonderful experience to interact with these majestic creatures up close. One learns many interesting facts and it is really incredible to see how intelligent they are! https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1498473 8/30

Scouting for some game at the lookout point at our beautiful lodge and hunting area in the Limpopo While in the Limpopo, we also took a trip to the lion sanctuary and the cultural village in the area. It is a truly unique experience to cuddle with a lion cub and visiting the cultural village is fascinating. https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1498473 9/30

While in the Limpopo, the group also did a spot of hunting, taking down a warthog and a zebra. Well done guys! https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1498473 10/30

The family next moved on to the Kruger National Park, where they spotted some great African wildlife and enjoyed a sunrise hike in the bushveld. The Kruger National Park is South Africa's premier national park - home to the Big 5 and a wide range of other animals. You will be hard pressed not to see a family of baboons enjoying a laze on the road or a giraffe enjoying a hard to reach snack, to name only a few! Sunrise hike in the world renowned Kruger National Park The cherry on top was a visit to the Victoria Falls: a spectacular sight of awe-inspiring beauty and grandeur and the greatest curtain of falling water in the world, 1,2 miles long and towering 900 feet down! The Johnson's had a relaxing stay at the River Lodge, visiting the Falls themselves and taking a trip to the Chobe National Park. Undoubtedly one of Africa s most beautiful rivers, the Chobe supports a diversity and high concentration of wildlife. This is considered one of the best game viewing experiences in the world! https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1498473 11/30

Thank you to the Johnsons and McNeely's for allowing us to show you our beautiful country. We hope that you enjoyed your time in Africa and that all of your expectations were exceeded! We hope to see you again soon! Cipressi Couples Safari We were very pleased to welcome Frank and Donna Cipressi to South Africa for a great hunt. These two hail from New York state and it was such a pleasure to host them on their https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1498473 12/30

first African hunt. It was an honor to hunt with these two! Frank very kindly sent us a great report of their hunt... "Shortly after arriving at the hunting area, we sighted in the rifle, took a few practice shots and we were ready to go. Right away we spotted some blesbuck and started a short stalk when all of a sudden a herd of zebra comes up over the ridge heading straight towards us. Donna wanted to get a zebra and now was her chance... TJ set the sticks and BOOM! Donna had her Zebra - one shot - the first afternoon of hunting. About 30 minutes later, we were back hunting again and spotted another herd of blesbuck. A quick 215 yard shot and I had gotten my blesbuck. On the second day, we spotted a herd of blesbuck about 200+ yards away, watching us. Now it was Donna's turn to shoot. TJ pointed out the trophy and boom... Donna 2 Frank 1!" https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1498473 13/30

"The following day, after about 30 minutes of being out in the field, we spotted a herd of blue wildebeest with a nice big bull. Stalked them for a short time, set the sticks and boom, down went that big bull. Less than an hour later we spotted a lone bull blue wildebeest hanging out with some impala. We set up and with one shot at 175 yards, Donna got her wildebeest." "All of a sudden we spotted a really nice waterbuck. TJ pulled out his binoculars to take a look and commented that while he's a nice buck, the one we had seen the night before in the field might be bigger. My reply was 'a waterbuck in hand is worth ten in the bush'. 'Well,' T.J. says, 'if you want him... he's facing you, it's a harder shot, but aim for the center...' BOOM - the waterbuck falls down!" https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1498473 14/30

"The next morning we were off to another concession. This time we were headed for the Tilodi Lodge. We saw buffalo, giraffe, baboons, ostrich, sable, kudu, monkeys, impala, nyala, and the list goes on. I ending up taking a great mountain reedbuck, sable, nyala and ostrich." https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1498473 15/30

The couple also visited the Pilanesburg National Park, another one of South Africa's national parks, boasting an array of wildlife. Here they spotted rhino, elephant, hippo, wildebeest, impala and crocodiles. What a great experience! We had a wonderful time with the Cipressi's and would like to say thank you for choosing Somerby Safaris to host you on your first hunting trip to Africa! We hope to see you again very soon and would like to congratulate you both on your amazing trophies! https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1498473 16/30

Marion Lott Safari We were very pleased to hear from Marion Lott, a reference from our good friend Kim Green, at the beginning of the year to start planning on a great safari. Marion is from Utah and was looking to shoot a buffalo and sable, and some plains game. Marion was joined by his wife, Kaye, who we really enjoyed meeting! Kaye joined Marion on the exciting hunt. Marion is a great hunter and he took down a beautiful buffalo bull and a magnificent sable... https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1498473 17/30

Marion also took down some of the classic African animals - a kudu, impala and gemsbuck. It is always nice for our hunters to hunt some of the more atypical species, which is exactly what Marion did. He also shot a waterbuck, eland and white springbuck. https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1498473 18/30

Thank you so much for joining us on this spectacular hunt, Marion! It was a real pleasure to hunt with you and we just know that we will hunt together again someday. We really enjoyed meeting Kaye as well and hope to see you both again soon! Congratulations on your excellent trophies! Jim and Venice Mercer Safari We have had the pleasure of hunting with Jim Mercer and his wife Venice several times. We have become really good friends over the years and we were really excited (perhaps even more excited than Jim himself!) that he was finally coming over to do the leopard hunt that he has always dreamed of. Venice is no stranger to hunting herself and did an outstanding job herself! Jim sent us a wonderful report of his hunt... Please enjoy! https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1498473 19/30

While Jim has been a hunter his entire life, Venice slowly eased into it and we are privileged that she did some of her first hunting with none other than yours truly. Here our favorite huntress, Venice, sits proudly with one of her first kills - a beautiful blesbuck! "Our first night in the leopard blind was cut short by elephants walking through the bush to greet us so we called our ride very quickly and called it a night. Night two we moved to another bait site and very quickly built a blind as we had an active bait and by 4 pm we were nestled in for an evening hunt. At about 4:15 we were alerted that we had company at the bait... a magnificent male leopard standing in a tree 48 yards from us. One shot from my rifle and my PH made the slow walk to my leopard before giving me the thumbs up on my incredible animal. About a mile out of camp, the trackers and guides began singing with camp staff joining in celebration of a great animal taken which was very humbling for me." "The next few days we spent looking for a Cape buffalo for my wife. After several stalks and 15 minutes on the shooting sticks, only to have the wind change direction, we decided to move back to South Africa where my wife took a fantastic black giraffe, a white blesbuck https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1498473 20/30

and a zebra, while I took a very nice warthog." "We moved to another camp to look for a Cape buffalo for my wife and after numerous spot and stalks, the second day we were glassing a very big dagga boy on the opposite side of the river about 200 yards away. I stayed on the hill to mark the big boy while my wife, Andre and tracker started down the steep river bank and across the river to get within shooting range. As I watched from my spectacular vantage point, they moved closer and closer to the buffalo. I could only give a thumbs up when they would check location and they moved closer. At 18 yards, I saw her settle on the shooting sticks and I wondered if she would forgive me for not explaining the 375 H&H she was about to touch off had a little more recoil than her 6.5 Creedmore... As the rifle went off and I saw the impact on the dagga boy, I knew it was a good, humane, lethal hit." Well done Venice! https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1498473 21/30

We would like to give a big shout out to Jim and Venice for coming over to hunt and visit with us again! You have a very special place in our hearts and we are so proud of you both for the superb trophies that you took on this trip! Please come and visit again soon and thank you for your friendship. Ray Penner takes an Elephant! We have known Ray for several years and it was with great pleasure that we welcomed him to South Africa again to finally put a stalk on an elephant... During this trip, Ray and Charles saw numerous elephants. On the first day, he estimates that they saw over 450 elephants, but no shooters. They spent a number of days climbing mountainsides and glassing for animals. On some days they saw huge herds, and on some days they saw none... They spent some time down by the Limpopo river, where they watched several animals crossing into Limpopo. However, it was not possible to hunt next to the river due to it being full of crocodiles! Charles remained confident in their goal and assured Ray that he knew it would happen. On the morning of the 12th day, they saw a small herd of about 25 elephants - many cows with calves, some sub-adults and one adult male - which they determined could be https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1498473 22/30

with calves, some sub adults and one adult male which they determined could be potentially harvested... The large male was in the tree's undercover, but never came out for a good shot. The animal waited 20 minutes, turned, and headed into the river to a dry creek bed. They reset the sticks and the elephant turned and came towards them (this is what Ray assumed, as he could not locate it in the trees!). Ray mentions how amazing it is how well an elephant can hide in light of its size. Ray suddenly saw the reflection of sunlight off of its tusks, which led him to know approximately where his head was, although it was too high for a good shot. Ray waited and the animal lowered his head, which allowed Ray to align the crosshairs one inch above the eye line and pull the trigger. The animal's back legs went out from under him and he crumpled to the ground with dust flying everywhere. Ray had harvested his elephant with his 375 H&H rifle and a 300 grain solid bullet. To our dear friend Ray: very well done on this incredible achievement! Your patience and dedication on this hunt was nothing short of admirable and we are so proud to have been able to share this experience with you. Please come back and visit us again soon! Schubert Boys' Safari We met Juergen Schubert at the SCI Convention in Las Vegas at the beginning of the year https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1498473 23/30

and we were so thrilled when he booked a hunt for him and his two sons, Stephan and Christian, on the spot! The guys all had a wishlist of plains game to fulfill and they all did a splendid job! Stephan and Christian are identical twins and shot identical packages... Talk about double the trouble! Juergen and his twin sons Christian and Stephan Juergen shot some great animals, including a blue wildebeest, warthog, eland and springbuck https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1498473 24/30

In addition to the awesome animals above, Juergen also shot a waterbuck, gemsbuck, kudu and 2 impalas. https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1498473 25/30

https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1498473 26/30

Christian shot a gemsbuck, blesbuck, kudu, black wildebeest, springbuck and impala. https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1498473 27/30

Like his brother, Stephan also shot the best of what Africa has to offer, working up a fine collection of trophies for his trophy room back home! https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1498473 28/30

https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1498473 29/30
