Log onto phillipscountyfair.fairentry.com to submit your entries. Construction classes are listed in the 4-H Building Exhibits department. Fashion Revue classes are listed in the Events Department. Clothing/Textile form, modeling evaluation form with picture and Fashion Revue Script must be turned into the Extension office by 5:00 p.m. on July 8 th. Pick up your forms at the Extension office or find them online at www.phillipsrooks.ksu.edu. LATE ENTRIES WILL NOT RECEIVE PREMIUM MONEY! 2016 Phillips County Fair Book Available The 2016 Phillips County Fair Books are printed and ready for pick up in the Extension Office. Please stop by the office and pick one up. It is also available online at www.phillipsrooks.ksu.edu. Fair Grounds Mowing June (second half) Lone Prairie July (first half) - Iowa Union Clean-up/Set up for Fair Wednesday July 20 th 6pm August Deer Creek September Sunnyside - Tom Weinman 543-5878 is willing to bring the big mower out to help if you notify him beforehand. If you request his help, please stay until ALL mowing is finished. Phillips County 4-H Event Scholarship Phillips County 4-H Council offers scholarships to Phillips County 4-H members to help with the cost to attend state and national 4-H events/contests (this includes NW County 4-H Camp). Beginning October 1, 2014 4-H youth must complete a scholarship application within 30 days after attending the event to receive this scholarship. The application is available at the Phillipsburg Extension Office or online at www.phillipsrooks.ksu.edu. Radio Spots to Highlight the Phillips County Fair The Phillips County Fair radio spots will be recorded at the KQMA/KKAN studio this year. They will be recording radio spots July 11 th at 1:00 p.m. Please call the Phillipsburg Extension Office at 543-6845 if you plan to be there. This is an excellent way to get the community involved in the Phillips County 4-H Fair!!! Attention Dog/Cat Project Be sure to read the fair book concerning vaccination requirements for your pet at the fair.

Dog Project You must attend at least three practices with your dog to be eligible to show at the county fair. If you plan to enter the Dog Show at the Fair, please contact Hollie Kendall about the dog practice schedule. Dog, Cat and Pet Project This year we would like to post results from the Dog show, Cat show and Pet Judging at the fair. Please provide an 8x10 sheet with a picture (standard size) of you and your pet by July 15 th.. Under the picture include your name, your pet s name, and a short paragraph about your pet. You may decorate this sheet anyway you like. After the project is judged we will attach the ribbons to your picture for the public to see. This will not be judged or affect premiums in any way, this is just a way to post results for the projects that don t stay at the fair. Poultry Project Members All Chickens and turkeys must have a Pullorum- Typhoid test before entering to poultry barn at the county fair. Blood test will be done at the Phillips County Fair Grounds on Wednesday, July 20 th from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Optional Booth Set - Up The Fair Building will be open from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on July 27th for those clubs who plan to have a booth at the Phillips County Fair. This is completely optional but do recommend taking advantage of this time. 4-H Fair Grounds Clean/Set Up is July 20th! The Fairgrounds clean up and Fair set-up has been scheduled for Wednesday, July 20 th, at 6:00 pm. Please bring your mowers, weed-eaters, cleaning supplies, etc. It is IMPORTANT that everyone show up to help! The more people that help the faster we will get done! The Phillips County 4-H Council will provide pizza and drinks after everything is set up. Phillips County Fashion Revue Fashion Revue has been scheduled for Tuesday, July 19 th. Judging will begin at 8:00 a.m. at the Huck Boyd Center. All sewing items (bags, blankets, garments, etc.) and buymanship outfits will be judged at this time. All items judged at the Fashion Revue need to be exhibited at the fair. Quilts will be judged at the fair this year. The judging schedule will be made available as soon as all entries are received. Entry deadline is July 8 th. The Public Fashion Revue will be at 7:30 p.m. at the Huck Boyd Center. 4-H Cups at the Phillips County Fair The Dierking Family & TNT Farm Services are proud to announce that they will once again be sponsoring a plastic 4-H green cup for every 4-H participant (including Cloverbuds) at the 2016 Phillips County Fair. 4-H participants can stop by the Fair Office to receive their green cup. You will be able to fill your cup as many times as you want with Tea or water. These cups will also be available to purchase for $5 Daily Cleanup Assignments These 4-H clubs and adult leaders will be in charge each day for seeing that areas are clean by 10:00a.m. Duties include the following: emptying trash cans inside and outside the Fair Building, picking up trash, policing the whole fairgrounds and the camping sites. This year these areas will be included in the Herdsmanship Judging. - Phillipsburg/Logan FFA Show arena & under bleachers - Deer Creek Inside & Outside of fair building - 4-H Council Beef Barn & Surrounding area - Sunnyside Swine/Sheep Barn & Parking area - Lone Prairie Horse barn & surrounding area - Hustlers/Agra Parking lot - Iowa Union New livestock / Rabbit Building - Overnight Campers Camping Sites Foods Project Plastic Bags Large food grade plastic bags are available for $0.25 each at the Extension Office for your fair entries.

Phillips Co Horse Practices The Phillips County Horse Practice Reminder - You MUST attend at least 3 practices to be able to show at the Fair. The schedule will be as follows: Date Group 1 Group 2 July 6 6-7:30 p.m. 7:30-9 p.m. July 8 6-7:30 p.m. 7:30-9 p.m. July 11 6-7:30 p.m. 7:30-9 p.m. July 14 6-7:30 p.m. 7:30-9 p.m. July 16 Trail Class 2:00 p.m. ALL KIDS If you have any questions, please call the Phillips County Extension Office at 785-543-6845. Phillips County 4-H/FFA Horse Show on July 23rd The Phillips County 4-H Horse Show is scheduled for Saturday, July 23rd beginning at 9:00 AM. Entry deadline is July 15 th. There will be a concession stand open at the horse show this year. They will be selling Hot Dogs, Sloppy Joes, Chips and Drinks. If you have any questions regarding rules and regulations please refer to the Kansas 4-H Horse Show Rule Book. Kansas 4-H Horse Show rule books are available at the Extension Office or contact your 4-H Horse Leader. Fair Project Clinic The Phillips County fair project clinic for Foods, Horticulture, Photography and Fashion Revue will rotate every other year with a Livestock Showing/Fitting clinic. Livestock Showing/Fitting Clinic The clinic will be held July 14 th beginning at 6:00 pm at the Phillips County Fair Grounds. This clinic is for all 4-H members enrolled in livestock projects. Animals will be at the clinic for demonstrations. No need to bring your animals. 6:00 Sheep and Goats 6:30 Swine 7:00 - Beef Showmanship Classes All livestock exhibitors, be sure to add showmanship to your entries. Showmanship is listed under Department G in the fair book. Also, you must participate in the showmanship class to sell in the premium auction. 4-H Fair Grounds after Fair Clean Up August 2nd 7:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. All Clubs need to help put everything away after the fair. We need to put away the booths, show cases, display rack, trash barrels, benches, pick up trash, clean stalls, put panels in building, etc. The more people that help the faster we will get done! 4-H Food Silent Auction The 7th Annual Food Silent Auction of the Grand and Reserve Champion Food Items plus the Best Cake, Whole Wheat food, Cookie, Yeast Bread, Pie, Layer Cake and Quick Bread in the 4-H Food Division will take place this year. Bids will be accepted throughout the entire week of fair. Whoever has the highest bid at 6:15 pm on Monday, August 1st, will be the official buyer of each item. The proceeds will go to the 4-H member. The 4-Her will bake a new item and get it to the buyer within two weeks after the fair. 4-Hers are encouraged to let potential buyers know if they have an item in the Silent Auction. Fair Food Stand For the Fair food stand this year the 4-H Council voted to purchase half of the pies needed for the fair with the 4-H clubs bringing the remaining pies. Pies need to be uncut in a disposable 9 pie tin and must be brought to the fair on the day they are assigned. Clubs have the option to bring the pies or have the Food Stand Committee purchase the pie for them and the club will be billed for the number of pies assigned. Each club will also be responsible for bringing two pans of Rice Krispie treats which need to be uncut in disposable 9x13 pans and 3 cheese cakes uncut in 9 disposable pie tins. (Do not need to provide topping) Please have the Rice Krispie treats to the fair building Friday morning, and the pies and cheese cakes to the fair build as scheduled. Friday morning: Iowa Union 11 pies, Sunnyside 4 pies, Saturday morning: Deer Creek 12 pies, Lone Prairie 2 pies, Sunday morning: Hustlers 2 pies, Agra Trailblazers 1 pie.

Fair Food Stand Work Schedule Please check the following schedule for your clubs work time. Each opening and closing club will be responsible for raising and lowering the flag in front of the building. The flag should be up by 7:00 am and lowered by dusk that evening. Everyone will be required to sign up for a time to work in the Fair Food Stand when you submit your fair entries online. If you choose not to submit your entries online you will need to contact your club leader after July 15 th to sign up to work in the food stand from the times that are still available. Friday: 1st Session (7am-2pm) Deer Creek Friday 2 nd Session (2 pm-closing) Iowa Union Saturday: 1 st Session (7am-2 pm) Sunnyside Saturday 2 nd Session (2 pm-closing) Lone Prairie Sunday: 1 st Session (6am 2 pm) Iowa Union Sunday 2 nd Session (2 pm-closing) Deer Creek Monday: 1 st Session (7am-2pm) Hustlers Monday 2 nd Session (2pm-Closing) Agra Trailblazers A list of who is working during your clubs scheduled time and who is bringing pies, rice krispie treats and cheese cakes needs to be turned into the Extension Office by July 22nd. State Judging Contests If you are interested in competing at the Kansas State Fair in life skills judging, photography judging, or crops judging, you must participate in these contests at the Phillips County Fair and mark that you are interested in judging at the State fair on the sign in sheet. We will be offering the opportunity to judge at the state fair to the top contestants at the county fair. State Fair 4-H/FFA Youth Show (BEEF, SHEEP, SWINE, MEAT GOATS) Entries due to the State Fair by July 15!! 2016 State Horticulture Judging Contest Is Horticulture your passion? We would like to invite Phillips County 4-H Members to consider competing in the State 4-H Horticulture Judging Contest. This contest will be held Saturday, August 20, 2016 on the campus of Kansas State University, Manhattan. The study material for the years 2015 & 2016 is taken from the Kansas Garden Guide, KSRE publication S-51 (Rev.) March 2010. The written exam selections from The Kansas Garden Guide include pp. 5-23 (Introduction, Planning a Garden, Composting, Soil Improvement, Seeding and Planting and pp71-74 (Herbs). To be a member of the Phillips County Horticulture team for the 2016 State Horticulture Judging Contest you must compete in the Horticulture Judging contest at the Phillips County Fair. The top four scores from this contest will be invited to be on the team. State Fair Pre-Entry We will again have the State Fair Pre-Entry forms at the Fair Office. We will accept entries up to August 5 th, but the sooner you get them in the better. If you have any questions please don t hesitate to ask. We will also have the State Fair Book at the office as well. State Fair Gate Admission Gate admission tickets are required for all state fair exhibitors. Exhibitor gate admission tickets can be purchased until August 5 th for $3.00 for youth (ages 9-18). Advance Adult gate tickets may be purchased for $6 (ages 13-59) and Advance Senior gate tickets for $4 (age 60 and over). Please see the Extension office if you wish to purchase exhibitor tickets. Advanced discount gate admission tickets will be available at Dillon s stores and the Kansas State Fair Ticket Office.

State Fair Encampment beds The Kansas State fair has bed space available in the Encampment building for those affiliated with 4- H/FFA current or past. Cost for encampment bed space is $15.00 per bed per night. Deadline to reserve a bed is August 5 th. Contact the Extension office for more information. 4-H Enrollment 4-H enrollment time will be here before we know it. We will be using the Kansas 4-HOnline system again this year. Every 4-H member and registered volunteer must re-enroll each year. Enrollment will begin on October 1, 2016. You cannot re-enroll in 4-H before this date. We will not be using the paper enrollment forms this year. State KAP Winner The Kansas 4-H Youth Development Program has named the 2016 State 4-H Project Winners and among those is Faith Hofaker. The project winners represent 4-H at its best, according to Barbara Stone, assistant director K- State Research and Extension, and state leader, Kansas 4-H. Twenty-nine 4-H Members were selected for the state awards, which are based on work completed the previous year. Sunnyside 4-H club member Faith Hofaker, received the award in the Pets (cat) Project. Congratulations Faith! Each of the state award recipients earns a commemorative project medallion and an invitation to National 4-H Congress, which, will be held in Atlanta, Georgia this fall. Winners also receive a $400 travel scholarship from the Kansas 4-H Foundation toward expenses in attending congress, which is a professional development conference for youth. Kansas 4-H State Scholarship Winners The Kansas 4-H Foundation has selected 67 students to share more than $70,000 in scholarships, rewarding them for their dedication and leadership as Kansas 4-H members. This year Justin Turner, an alumnus from the Iowa Union 4-H Club was awarded the M.H. Coe Scholarship, and Erika Norris, an alumnus from the Hustlers 4-H Club was awarded the Extension Step Ahead, NW Area Scholarship. Congratulations Justin and Erika! The scholarships fund post-secondary education during the 2016-17 academic year and was awarded at the 2016 Emerald Circle Banquet, June 2nd, in Manhattan. Assisting our 4-H members in pursuit of higher education, where they will apply the skills and knowledge gained through 4-H, is a privilege and honor for our donors. We couldn t be more pleased to award scholarships to these deserving young men and women, said Jake Worchester, president of the foundation. Scholarship recipients are 4-H members selected through an annual application and review process. Applications are judged with emphasis on 4-H leadership, citizenship and involvement. Many of the scholarship donors are former 4-H members. 48 Hours of 4-H in 2016 Join us this fall in seeing just how much we can give back to our communities!
