SIGN UP DATES: March 3-March 21 CAMP DATES: June 23 27 If you are in the 4 th -6 th grades and between the ages of 9-12, then you qualify to attend the 4-H Summer Camp! Registrations will be taken until March 21. Spaces are limited so sign-up is on a first-come basis. Applications may be turned in to our office with at least ½ the fee, and you will receive a packet of paperwork to complete. These papers and any remaining balance must be turned in by April 4. Portfolios, Project Books, and Outstanding Officer and Leader Award Sheets April 11 is the deadline to turn in all of these items. Your Portfolio should reflect all your involvement in 4-H, school, and community activities. The project book should be completed as specified for each book and turned in with your Portfolio. Officers and Leaders: the Outstanding Award sheet is to be completed by you and please follow the directions on the form. Recruiting 4-H University Participants Are you interested in competing in fashion revue, automotive driving, bicycle, public speaking, computer simulation, presenting a demonstration, consumer judging, etc.? Did you turn 13 before January 1, 2014? Would you like to spend four days on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge during the week of June 17-20? Maybe you re not interested in competing, but you want to travel with us and attend a session in Clover College. See you soon! Wednesday, May 28, 2014 The 13 th Annual 4-H Day at the Capitol provides an opportunity for 4-H members to learn about the legislative process beginning with an assembly at 10am. Following the assembly, legislators will host 4-H members in their offices and provide educational tours of the Capitol. During the afternoon sessions, the state 4-H President addresses both the House and Senate with a presentation on the Louisiana 4-H program. 4-H exhibits and displays are set up in the rotunda adding to 4-H Day at the Capitol program. CONGRATULATIONS! Honey Bee Essay Winners and Prudential Spirit of Community Award The 4-H world is buzzing about some of our Bossier 4-H ers! We are so proud of Sarah Hammonds (CNP) for winning 3 rd place and Lexa Thompson (Princeton Elementary) for winning 10 th place in the State 4-H Honey Bee Essay Contest. They competed against 20 other entries from across the state of Louisiana. Sarah will receive a cash award and plaque during the Louisiana Beekeeping Conference (generally held in December). Also, Madison Waldron (Haughton MS) won the Prudential Spirit of Community Award for her pet projects, and she contributes her success to the record keeping skills that she has learned through 4-H. Madison s mom said, Thanks to 4-H, we document EVERYTHING! Madison won $1,000 and a trip to Washington, D.C. in May. GREAT JOB Bossier 4-H ers!!!! 4-H Marsh Maneuvers July 14-18, 2014 Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge Grand Chenier, La. 4-H ers in grades 9-12 4-H FUN FEST This camp is only offered to a parish every 4 years, and this is Bossier s year to attend Marsh Maneuvers. Are you ready to go cast netting, fishing, crabbing, water chemistry testing, seining, seafood processing, boating and much more? And, at no cost to you!! The first four 9 th to 12 th graders who turn in their completed registration forms will be allowed to attend, and additional registrants will be placed on a waiting list. Those attending will be responsible for their own transportation to and from the Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge in south Louisiana. Registration forms may be picked up at the 4-H office located on the Fourth Floor of the Courthouse Building in Benton and returned by Thursday, May 1, to the 4-H office. Remember, it s first-come, first-serve!! ATTENTION: 7 TH 12 TH GRADE 4-H MEMBERS!! Come out and have a blast with other 4-H ers from the Northwest Region on Saturday, April 5, at the Red River National Wildlife Refuge, 150 Eagle Bend Point 71112 (off the Teague Parkway in south Bossier) from 10:00am until 3:00pm. The Twin Cities Leadership Club is a collaboration between Bossier and Caddo 4-H ers. In February and March they will be doing community outreach projects. In April they will be having social events. There are NO dues to join and be involved. If you are interested in becoming a member, simply call our office and leave your name and email with us, and we will add you to the group to receive all the information on the upcoming events and activities. For the March meeting, the group will meet to participate in a community service project.
CNP CLUB Record keeping is an important part of every 4- H educational project. The Portfolio books that are completed and turned in to our office (April 11) will be judged. Recognition/awards will be given for these books at Awards Night. Keep this book from year to year and add to it. You may include up to three years of 4-H work per book. Many awards, college scholarships, and educational trips are given to club members on the basis of their records and project work.
