Irish Times Issue 3 Volume 4 October 31, 2017 Homecoming week Homecoming week was filled with much fun. We had many days to show off our creativity. Our Homecoming theme was Board Games: Seniors- Candy Land, Juniors- Monopoly, Sophomores- Clue, Freshman- Life, 8 th - Battleship, and 7th- Operation. On Monday we had mass and a sashing ceremony. This was a bittersweet moment for the senior princesses. As they called the homecoming court the school burst into a loud cheer for all the girls on the court. It is a big honor to be selected as a representative of your class. Tuesday was Mathletes vs. Athletes, this is where students can dress up as a nerd or an athlete. I believe that Mathlete won this year because there were so many studious kids around the school. I guess the saying is true Brains over Bronze. Next on Wednesday we had Dynamic Duo. You could either dress up as the same person or dress up something that go together like salt and pepper. Some people went as a Triple Threat. This day really showed people the creative minds that we have around the school. My favorites were Sarah Hayek and Cecila Azar s Dynamic Duo, which were Ben and Jerry s. Jessica Ballon and Aja Hudson dressed as the popular show on Disney Channel, Lilo and Stich. I felt that the senior class really was creative and involved this year.

Homecoming Court 2017 Thursday was our traditional skit day. This is where we make up a skit and act it out in front of everyone. We have to make sure we incorporate our homecoming class theme into the skit. Everyone burst into laughter as each class makes fun of the other classes themes. The juniors won the competition. Their theme was the board game monopoly. On Friday we wore our homecoming T-shirt and we got out of school at 1:30. Our football boys demolished Greenville Christian team by 56-6. This was a bittersweet week for me. By Friday I realized that it was my last high school homecoming week and it will always be one to remember. Freshman Maids By: Alexis and Trevor

Football Favorites This month s football favorite is Jo Quez JoJo Sanders. He is 18 years old and a senior at St. Joe. He lives in Greenville, MS. JoJo plays football and is a member of the track & field team. It all started when his dad taught him, and he started playing Pop Warner football. My biggest accomplishment is beating the career school record in tackles Jo Quez says. Jo Quez s biggest achievement is being the defensive MVP in the State Championship game. JoJo says, I set my goals high, where nobody thinks I can break them. His biggest challenge was when he was 9 years old; he played football with the 11 and 12 years old. The best advice that was given to him was follow Christ and you will succeed. His motto is Man believe in possible, God believes in impossible. JoJo aspires to be able to buy his mom a house and his dad an Audi.

Are you Aware?? Do you have anyone in your family that has died due to breast cancer? Well I do. What is breast cancer? Breast cancer is a disease that forms in the cell of the breasts. Most people think that only women can get it, but men can also. It is rare that men get it though. Breast cancer is the second most common kind of cancer in women. About 1 in 8 women born today in the United States will get breast cancer at some point (healthfinder.gov). Breast cancer symptoms are a lump in the breast, a bloody discharge from the nipple, and changes in the shape and texture of the breast and nipple. Sometimes breast cancer can spread to the lymph nodes under the arm or around the collarbone. Mammograms can help you find breast cancer, but not always (cancer.org). The risk factors for breast cancer may be something s that we do not think about like birth control, not having children, and etc. We may not think about those factors, but that is why we have to do more research. The color for breast cancer is pink, and is celebrated in the month of October. It is celebrated in October because it was founded in that month in 1985. The purpose of NBCAM is to promote mammography as the most effective weapon in the fight against breast cancer (en.wikipedia.org). There are 4 stages of breast cancer. The treatment of breast cancer depends partly on the stage of the disease (cancer.gov). There are five different ways that you can find out the stages: CAT Scan, Biopsy, chest x-ray, Bone scan, and PET scan. After, the doctor finds what stage you are in, that s when they find out if the cancer cells have spread or not. Many people do not understand what type of stress that the patients go under. This is why they need all the support that can get. We as people on the outside looking in should always encourage them to keep fighting through it. When you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on. Franklin D. Roosevelt (beseengetscreened.com). Now that we have learned a little more about breast cancer, we should step up and help those who are fighting against it. -Roslyn Williams

9-12 Grade Net Retreat The Net Retreat was on October 23, 2017. It consisted of 8 Net leaders from around the world. We had small groups where we got to know one another and played games. In our free time we got to play basketball. We also got to learn some interesting facts about the people in our small group. Being the 9th graders first Net Retreat, I asked them a couple questions. and a creative way to learn about God. At the end of the day we went into the chapel and you could choose if you wanted to go to confession. We also had a time of prayer. Overall it was a great experience. Jasmine Ross and Cha koeria Holmes said, The retreat was ok. It was a different experience. Christopher Tonos said, I felt like I got closer with God. Gracie McGaugh said, It was very fun and we got out of class. It was helpful
