U21 Football South East Football Final Valley Rovers recorded a two in a row of South East U21 football finals with a hard fought win over Ballinhassig in Belgooly earlier today. Valleys got off to a great start with John Cottrell registering three points in the first five minutes. Scores drier up after this initial burst and a further 10 minutes elapsed before Ballinhassig registered their first score of the day on 15 minutes. Jack Murphy responded for Valleys in the 21 minute. Two minutes later Ballinhassig added to their tally but John Cottrell and Gary Farrell replied immediately. Ballinhassig finished the half strongly getting two points to leave the half time score Valley Rovers 0-6 to Ballinhassig 0-4. John Cottrell drew first blood after half time with a point but Ballinhassig took over the scoring getting 1-02 on the scoreboard to take the lead for the first time on a score of Valley Rovers 0-8 Ballinhassig 1-6. The reigning champions are made of stern stuff however and responded like the champions they are, scoring a goal and a point in the next 3minutes to regain the lead. The goal coming from Jack Murphy. Ballinhassig did register another point before the finish but Valleys finished the game strongly chalking up the last two points in a hard fought game. Valley Rovers 18th south east title was certainly a hard earned one which should stand them in good stead for U21 Football County Quarter Final Valley Rovers v Beara provisionally fixed for weekend of May 18th. Team Donnacha O'Driscoll Billy Crowley, Joe Lynch(R/hill) Capt. Ben Murphy Jack Lyons, Aidan Walsh, Tomas O'Brien, Gary Farrell, Darragh Murphy, Mark Murphy, Jack Murphy, Eoin Fallon, Tadgh O'Brien, John Cottrell, Darragh Looney. Minor B Hurling Valleys minor B hurlers played Laochra Og in Brinny last Sunday morning. Laochra Og are a new hurling club from the predominantly football strong holds of Macroom and local villages Clondrohid, Ballyvourney. It is great to see a new hurling club in the county and we would like to wish them all the best. Valleys won on a score line of 1.22 to 1.02 with some excellent shooting from all over the field particularly in the 2nd half. All 18 Valleys players performed well however Sean O Regan at full back, Mossie Sweetnam in the corner, Dan Sweetnam on the wing and Colm Butler at wing forward were particularly impressive. Team; Cathal Dart-O Flynn Scott Deane, Sean O Regan, Mossie Sweetnam Gary Deane, Aidan Sheehan, Dan Sweetnam Johnnie Kiely, Bill Casey Colm Butler, Michael Crowley, Aaron Lyons Ted O Leary, Gary Jones, Sean Crowley. Minor A Hurling Last Thursday Valley Rovers Minor hurlers came up against a Kerry Minor team who had recently suffered a heavy defeat to the Cork Minors. It was the first Premier 1 league game of the year for both sides and they were determined to begin their campaigns on a high. Kerry made their intentions known early on as they hit four unanswered points within the first five minutes. Valley Rovers responded with points from Billy Crowley and Chris O Leary. However, Kerry had the better of the opening quarter leading 0-7 to 0-2. Valley Rovers gained a bit of momentum before the break with scores from Eoin O Reilly, Billy Crowley and Chris O Leary bringing his impressive first half tally to six points from centre field. Some decent defending at the back from William Hurley and Brian O Leary kept the scores close and the game was anyone s to play for at half time with Kerry leading 0-11 to 0-8. The second half looked a lot more promising for Valley Rovers as points from Chris O Leary, Darragh Looney and half time substitute Steven O Shea gave the Cork side a 2 point lead. The game looked neck and neck for the remainder of the game until a great move involving Eoin O Reilly and Tadhg O Brien finished with a goal which gave them great confidence to finish the game out. Kerry bounced back with a couple of scores but some solid defending and goalkeeping from Cathal Dart O Flynn and Cormac Desmond prevented the Kingdom from hitting the back of the net. In the end, the Valleys men had enough to hold them off and wrapped up their first competitive win of the year. FT: Valley Rovers 1-19 Kerry 0-16. Team: Cathal Dart O Flynn Stephen Lordan, Brian O Leary, Donal McCarthy Cormac Desmond, Wm Hurley, Darragh Looney(0-2) Ian Crowley, Chris O Leary(0-9) Johnnie Kiely, Tadhg O Brien(1-1), Colm Butler Eoin O Reilly(0-3), Billy Crowley(0-3), Joe Bernard Page 2 of 6

Subs used: Steven O Shea (0-1), Aaron Lyons and Sean O Regan. The Minor hurling team came into this clash against St. Finbarrs on Saturday following a great victory against Kerry and were destined to make it two out of two in the league. Valley Rovers started the better side with a few well executed points from Eoin O Reilly and a quick free resulting in the ball being buried in the back of the net by Tadhg O Brien. The Barrs bounced back with a few quick points before being awarded the first of two penalties. It was defended excellently by Cormac Desmond who picked up the loose ball and cleared the danger. Chris O Leary, William Hurley and Ian Crowley dominated the centre of the pitch for most of the half, winning puck outs from either end. The Rovers looked the better side at the break, leading 1-05 to 0-5. The second half began with a couple of points from the Barrs, making it a one point game. However, the Rovers responded with a point from Darragh Looney and a goal from half time substitute Aaron Lyons carrying the game out of the opposition s reach. The game looked wrapped up until a penalty was awarded to St. Finbarrs in the dying moments of the match after their full forward was taken down inside the square. The penalty was superbly saved and driven away by goalkeeper Cathal Dart O Flynn. Some solid defending from Stephen Lordan and Donal McCarthy prevented the Barrs from getting back into the game, making it three games in a row without conceding a goal. In the end, Valley Rovers were victorious with a comfortable eight point margin. FT: Valley Rovers 2-08 St. Finbarrs 0-06. Team: Cathal Dart O Flynn Stephen Lordan, Cormac Desmond, Sean O Regan Donal McCarthy, William Hurley, Darragh Looney(0-1) Ian Crowley, Chris O Leary(0-1) Johnnie Kiely, Tadhg O Brien(1-0), Colm Butler Eoin O Reilly(0-6), Billy Crowley, Joe Bernard Subs used: Steven O Shea, Aaron Lyons (1-0) and Bill Casey. Subs; Ben Murphy, Shane O Leary, Ciarán Murphy Under 16 hurling League Valley Rovers 2-11 to Sliabh Rua 3-12 Valley Rovers under 16 hurlers began their league campaign with a home fixture against Sliabh Rua on Sunday. The visitors got the opening point of the game before Rovers opened their account and then proceeded to score seven more points in around fifteen minutes while their opponents only got one in the same period, opening up a lead of eight points to two shortly before half time. During this part of the game Valley Rovers played some excellent hurling. However, things turned around very quickly in the five minutes before the break with Sliabh Rua scoring two goals and two points to put them a point ahead by 2-4 to 0-9. Rovers scores in the first half came from Robert Sean Sweetnam 0-7 (0-5f), Adam Settini and Rory O Sullivan. Sliabh Rua continued where they let off by scoring the first two points of the second half and it looked like the game might start to slip away. However, two quick goals by Adam Settini and Peter Callanan turned things back in Valley Rovers favour again. Rovers managed to maintain the lead for most of the second half, scoring another two points through the accurate free-taking of Robert Sean Sweetnam. But Sliabh Rua finished the game very strongly, scoring 1-5 in the final seven or eight minutes to end the game four points ahead. While disappointing to lose the opening game of the league, there were many positives to take out of the performance. The outcome might have been different had William Hurley been fully fit, as his influence on games can be huge. Hopefully Rovers can build on this promising start and do well in the upcoming games. Next up is the re-scheduled match against Inniscarra on Wednesday and then at home to Nemo next Monday.Team: Ciaran Rice Cian O Donovan, Sean Lynch, John-Patrick Muckian Olan Fehily, William Hurley, Rory O Sullivan Fearghal Lyons, James Callanan Patrick Hurley, Adam Settini, Jonathan Hurley Colm Barry, Daniel Kenneally, Robert-Sean Sweetnam Subs: Sean O Donovan, Aaron Murphy, Patrick O Sullivan, Peter Callanan Scorers: Robert-Sean Sweetnam 0-9 (0-7 f), Adam Page 3 of 6

Settini 1-1, Peter Callanan 1-0, Rory O Sullivan 0-1 U13 Hurlers Valley Rovers U13 hurlers travelled to Cobh last Monday night for a Premier 2 hurling league game. Cobh started brightly and went up 2-1 to 0-0. But a period of dominance from Valleys brought the score line back to 2-1 to 1-1. Cobh finished the half strongly and led at half time 3-3 to 1-1. Following a number of changes at half time Valleys fought hard to gain possession but some outstanding hurling from Cormac Kilduff and Ben Carthew kept Cobh at bay. Again Valleys got on top and 2-1 from Cathal O Sullivan and a great goal from Darragh O Shea brought the score line to 5-5 to 4-3 with 10 mins remaining. Again Cobh got on top and 3 goals in quick succession Cobh ran out winners 8-5 to 4-3. This was a very good performance by Valleys as last year we lost on a score line of 3-13 to 2-1. Best for valleys on the night were Gearoid Sweetnam, Brian Hoey, Aaron O Leary and Adam Kenneally. Team: Darragh Keane Danial Hoban, Gearoid Sweetnam, Daniel Lynch, Aaron O Leary, Adam Kenneally, Gerard O Mahony, Cormac Kilduff (0-1), Ronan O Connell, Brian Hoey (1-1), Darragh O Shea (1-0), Ben Carthew, Eoin Nash, Cathal O Sullivan (2-1), Jack Hurley.
