IRELAND GOLF TOUR PROPOSED SUMMARY ITINERARY Sunday, June 18 Depart USA for Shannon. Monday, June 19 Upon your arrival in Shannon you will be met by a SGH Golf representative, who will assist you with your luggage and present you with your travel guide, before showing you to your waiting rental car(s). You will transfer to Killarney and the Brook Lodge Hotel. Brook Lodge Hotel is a newer hotel, family run, situated in the heart of Killarney Town, set back from the street and on over an acre of landscaped garden. The large and tastefully decorated bedrooms are all en-suite. Excellent cuisine is served in the Brook Restaurant, which incorporates the best local produce into the menu. If you are feeling up to it you may wish to tour the Town of Killarney. The town of Killarney is situated in the south of County Kerry, and is world-famous due to its exquisite location beside lakes and mountains. It has charming architecture and style reminiscent of the late nineteenth century. Enjoy wandering the towns narrow lanes, down which are hidden many restaurants and craft shops. The rest of your day is free to relax and unpack. Shannon to Killarney is approx a 2 hour drive. Overnight at the Brook Lodge Hotel (2 Standard Twin Rooms) Tuesday, June 20 Today after breakfast golf will be arranged on the Old Head Golf Links. Killarney to the Old Head Golf Links is approx a 1 hour 30 minute drive. Overnight at the Brook Lodge Hotel (2 Standard Twin Rooms) Old Head Golf Links is built on a 220-acre diamond of land, jutting out over two miles into the Atlantic Ocean. The promontory is almost an island with numerous caves running beneath your feet as you play the course. The links and practice area occupy 180 acres and the remaining 40 acres of unspoilt cliff (rising in places to over 300 feet) frame the course. Old Head, par 72, comprises five Par 5s, five Par 3s and eight Par 4s stretching to over 7,200 yards from the tips, with a minimum of six tees per hole. Nine holes play along the cliff tops, and all eighteen holes provide stunning ocean views. With the ever-changing sea breezes, the course provides a stern test to the touring pro and the high handicapper alike.
Wednesday, June 21 Today after breakfast golf will be arranged at Waterville Golf Links where you will play the Championship Course. Make no mistake about it; Waterville Golf Links in Kerry is one of the finest links golf courses in the world, never mind Ireland. Located on the Ring of Kerry, the surrounding scenery and quality of golf holes is breathtaking to say the least. The front nine holes, which were designed to contrast with the more rugged and exposed closing stretch, begin with the chillingly named "Last Easy", a fairly ironic name given the fact that it's not really that simple. Each hole at Waterville is a wonderful experience, with the 2nd and 3rd holes, both par fours, being particularly impressive. And while the par three, 17th is probably Waterville's feature hole, most would agree with Gary Player when he described the 11th as "the most beautiful and satisfying par five of them all". Running 500 yards through a narrow passage of huge dunes, this hole fully deserves its name "Tranquility". Ring of Kerry is a tourist trail that covers the circular trail starting in Killarney and moving around the Iveragh Peninsula. Along the way visitors can stop at many tourist sites along the way including the Muckross House, Ross Castle, Ladies View, and others. For those looking for more outdoor adventure there is a walking path called The Kerry Way, which covers the Ring of Kerry using older and quieter roads. Killarney to Waterville Golf Links is approx a 1 hour 10 minute drive. Overnight at the Brook Lodge Hotel (2 Standard Twin Rooms) Thursday, June 22 Today you will head north where golf will be arranged at Ballybunion on the Old Course. After playing Ballybunion for the first time, you would think that the game of golf originated there. Located on the Shannon estuary, it is a true seaside links course, virtually treeless and a course of sharp contours throughout. It looks like a course laid out on land back in the 10 th century. While there would appear to be a lot of blind shots, there aren t. It is a course that will test your patience. It is not a course that favors one particular style of play over another, but one that simply rewards good play and good shots. It is a true test of golf. After golf you will transfer to the Lahinch Golf and Leisure Hotel. Killarney to Ballybunion is approx. 1 hour and 10 minute drive Ballybunion to Lahinch is approx. 1 hour and 45 minute drive Overnight at the Lahinch Golf and Leisure Hotel (2 Standard Twin Rooms) Friday, June 23 Located in the heart of the charming seaside village of Lahinch, overlooking the stunning landscape of County Clare and the Atlantic Ocean. The Lahinch Golf & Leisure Hotel in Clare is situated on the former site of The Aberdeen Arms in Lahinch on the West Coast of Ireland. The Lahinch hotel has undergone an extensive renovation which has transformed the hotel into a luxurious four-star hotel in Clare that is highly anticipated to be a Premier hotel in the Shannon region. The Lahinch hotel comprises 144 rooms including 60 Luxuriously appointed Bedrooms and 42 Two Bedroom Executive Suites. Each guest room boasts large comfortable beds, spacious bathrooms and every convenience for the modern traveler.
Today after breakfast golf will be arranged at Lahinch. After golf today you may wish to visit the Cliffs of Moher. Known as the St. Andrews of Ireland, the Old Course was originally laid out by Old Tom Morris. It is a classic Irish Links in every sense with plenty of blind shots, cavernous bunkers, and large, sweeping sand dunes. Holes number 4 and 5 (The Klondyke and The Dell) propose that you play completely blind to your target area, the latter with a volcanic-like green setting. A visit to Lahinch is a must for any student of the game. The Cliffs of Moher are the most visited attraction in Ireland. They are located close to the village of Liscannor near Doolin. The cliffs reach a maximum height of 702 feet and boast some of the most spectacular views in Ireland for almost five miles. The cliffs are also home to O Brien s Tower, which is a round stone tower at the midpoint of the cliffs. The visitors centre is located midway along the cliffs. Another way to see the cliffs would be on a cruise from the village of Doolin. Overnight at the Lahinch Golf and Leisure Hotel (2 Standard Twin Rooms) Saturday, June 24 Today you will depart Shannon for USA. Lahinch to Shannon is approx. 50 minutes
