IOWA STATE FAIR REMINDERS State Fair Entries Due July 1! If you plan to show livestock at the Iowa State Fair, you must register for your classes by July 1. An entry form needs to be filled in 4hOnline by July 1 if you are showing beef, dairy, dairy goats, meat goats, rabbits, horses, sheep, swine, dogs and horticulture. You will be able to sign up in 4hOnline starting on June 1. Please visit http://www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/projects/ for livestock for more species specific information. If you have any questions, please contact the Extension Office at (563) 659-5125. 2014 Iowa State Fair 4-H Livestock Premium Book & Discount Ticket & Parking Pass Order Form The 2014 Iowa State Fair 4-H Livestock Premium book is posted on the 4-H State Fair Livestock page at http://www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/statefair/livestock Also, you will find the and the Exhibitor Discount Ticket Order form, as well as Youth Inn information. Youth Inn registration must be in by August 1. The exhibitor discount order form for the Iowa State Fair is due July 20 and may be found at http://www.extension.iastate.edu/4hfiles/statefair/ FamilyTicketOrderForm2014.pdf Pre-Fair Vehicle Parking Permits & one youth gate admission ticket will be given to each 4-H exhibitor participating at the state fair. State Fair Project Transportation & Meetings The Extension Office will provide transportation for the indoor exhibits chosen for the Iowa State Fair. Any 4-Her who would like to take advantage of this exhibit transportation to Des Moines will need to pay $15.00 per family. If you have a large exhibit, check with Brianne Johnson to see if Clinton County Extension may accommodate transportation. More information will be handed out at the mandatory State Fair meetings during the county fair. All State Fair meetings will be held in the auditorium and you must attend one if your exhibit is chosen to go to the State Fair. State Fair Photographs & Meetings will be: Friday, July 18 at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 19 at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, July 20 at 1:30 p.m. Empower youth to reach their full potential through youth adult partnerships and research-based experiences.

COUNTY FAIR REMINDERS Club Show Clean Up on July 21 Each year, 4-H Clubs clean up the fairgrounds on the first Monday, after the fair. This year, clean-up will occur starting at 9am on Monday, July 21. Your help is very much appreciated! 4-H Clubs Scheduled to clean: CW Jr. Ag Wapsi Valley Orange Future Leaders What Do I Attach to My 4-H Exhibits? The fair book states that all exhibitors at the fair must wear a white t-shirt with a 4-H or FFA emblem or armband. T-shirts from previous years and club t-shirts are acceptable as long as they are white with the 4-H or FFA emblem. The Fair and Youth Committee along with many generous sponsors provided all 4-H members with a t-shirt this year so if you have not received yours yet please connect with your club leader. Also keep in mind that no open toed shoes are acceptable. All livestock exhibitors must wear hard-soled dark colored shoes, with the exception that poultry, rabbit, dog and pet exhibitor s shoes don t have to be hard-soled, just dark colored and closed toed. Ak Sar Ben 4-H Stock Show Entries Due August 15 If you ve nominated livestock for the Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben 4-H Stock Show, your animals have been validated and are now requiring entries, in order for you to participate. The deadline to submit entries to the Ak-Sar-Ben office is August 15, although we ask that you try to submit your entry form to the Clinton County Extension Office as soon as possible. Please fill out the entry form found at http://www.rivercityrodeo.com/stock-show return it to the Clinton County Extension Office. Volunteers for Conference Judging Day Still Needed There are still openings for Volunteers on Conference Judging Day. If you sign up to volunteer for the morning shift of Conference Judging Day on Monday, July 14, we ask that you be there by 8:40 a.m. to attend a short orientation and 1:15 p.m. if you are working the afternoon shift. If you are signed up to work both shifts during Conference Judging Day, lunch will be provided for you. Comment Writers Needed: Visual Arts 1:00pm 5:00pm Horticulture 9:00am 12:00pm Photography 9:00am 5:00pm Bake Sale Worker Needed: 1:00pm 5:00pm Use of Copyrighted Material in 4-H Exhibits Often, we get ideas by observation of other s works of art, crafts, recipes, etc. It is very important to give credit to those individuals or companies who have created materials, resources, logos, trademarks, photographs, etc. that you may want to incorporate into your 4-H project, exhibited at county fair. You must request and be granted permission in order to use someone else s material. Gift Basket Silent Auction Fundraiser During the Club Show, the Clinton County 4-H Endowment Committee will be having a Gift Basket Silent Auction. The silent auction will take place in the Clinton County Fair Auditorium from Wednesday, July 16 through Sunday, July 20. All proceeds from the auction will go to the Clinton County 4-H Endowment Fund. To participate: 1. Please bring your Gift Basket to the Clinton County Extension Office from Monday, July 7 through Friday, July 11 (the office closes at 3PM on Friday). 2. Please include only non-perishable items. 3. You may choose any theme for your basket (Ex. Your Business, Iowa State University, Gardening, Golfing, Pizza, etc.). 4. Please wrap your Gift Basket, include a tag with the contents indicating who donated the basket AND what dollar amount you would like as the minimum starting bid. ***If you have any questions, would like a receipt for your donation, or need someone to pick up your basket, please call the Clinton County Extension Office at 563-659-5125. Thank you for supporting the Clinton County 4-H Youth Development Program. This year, the Clinton County Endowment will also hold a raffle at the Clinton County Fair! More information will be available very soon! Conference Judging Day July 14 Here are a few tips to help the day run smoothly: Please arrive at least 5-10 minutes before your scheduled time Make sure you have your write-up completed (refer to the fair book to make sure you have what you need) Bring your completed entry tags, completed Conference Judging Day sheet, specific labels (if needed), and your project. Wear appropriate dress (white t-shirt with 4-H emblem, and pants, jeans, or slacks and closed toe shoes) Come in through the south door of the auditorium. 4-H greeters will be there to help you find your way When finished judging, go to the Check-Out table to turn in your judging day sheet to Extension Staff, along with your $5.00 entry fee (unless already paid with livestock entry form) and pick up your fair wristband and meal ticket. Communications Day July 9 Communications day will be held on Wednesday, July 9, from 1-5 p.m. at the Extension Office. If you have not received a schedule in the mail, please contact Brianne Johnson at the Extension Office. Please plan on being at the Extension Office at least 10 minutes early and be ready to go when your judging time begins. Those who are participating in the Communications Posters project must submit posters and the report form by 6:00 p.m. to the Extension Office on Monday, July 7, 2014. 4-H Poster Report form may be found at: http://www.extension.iastate.edu/clinton/content/4-hcommunication-events Fashion Revue/Clothing Selection July 8 All members signed up for Fashion Revue, Clothing Selection and $15 challenge will be judged Tuesday, July 8 between 2:00 and 8:00 p.m. at the Fairgrounds Auditorium. Every exhibitor should bring: Completed form for each category entered A picture of themselves in the outfit from the front and back Completed commentary form for each outfit judged Keep forms organized together in a project folder All members will then participate in the Fashion Show at the fair on Friday, July 18. All participants should assemble with their clothing in the auditorium no later than 4:15 p.m. on the day of the show on Friday, July 18. The Schedule may be found at: http://www.extension.iastate.edu/clinton/page/clintoncounty-connection 2014 Clinton County Equestrian Queen Montanna Krogman is a 6 year member of the Equine Fever 4-H Club and attends Northeast High School. Montanna is also a 6 year member of the 4-H Horse Project and has volunteered to be involved in many community service projects, such as Clover Kids Junior Leader, Volunteer at Bright Spot Therapeutic Riding Center, Assisting Minister at Zion Lutheran Church & Sunday School teacher, and Saddle Up for St Jude Trail ride/fundraiser for Equine Fever 4-H Club. Montanna feels like she is a great queen candidate for Clinton County because she s, Always loved horses and helping people. My goal as a queen candidate is to show other kids that if you work hard and try to overcome challenges in life that anything is possible. Montanna s goal as Clinton County Equestrian Queen is, To be a positive role model and to encourage people to support the Clinton County Fair as well as the Equine program. I d also like to represent Clinton County at the Cowgirl Queen Contest at the Iowa State Fair.

Clubs may set up their booths after Conference Judging Day on Monday, July 14, 6pm-8pm, Tuesday, July 15, 8am-8pm, or on Wednesday, July 16, 8am-3pm. Food Drive at the Clinton County Fair The Clinton County Fair will be partnering with county food pantries to hold a Food Drive at the Fair. This year the Clinton County Fair will hold a food drive from 3 to 8 pm on Wednesday, July 16th. Each of the gates of the fairgrounds will be drop-off sites for non-perishable food items. All of the items will go to local food pantries in Clinton County. 4-H Clubs and FFA chapters are encouraged to participate in a special Club Challenge. The club with the most items donated per member will be determined the winner of the Challenge and will receive a pizza party at the fair courtesy of Happy Joe s, DeWitt. There is no admission fee to the fair on Wednesday but if you are not able to attend the fair but would like to make a donation contact a 4-H or FFA member, the Clinton County Extension Service at 563-659-5125 or the Clinton County Fair at 563-659-1624. There will also be a drawing for two $250 gift cards sponsored by Barnes Foodland, Dewitt and HyVee, Clinton.
