FROM THE BRIDGE JULIE NOBLE, COMMODORE June has been a fabulous and very busy month! We started with a work/clean up/rockachaw "party" on Saturday the 5th. Thank you Patti & Charlie Coleman, Ian Rajala, Joe Fleming, Howard Kapp, Glenn Kapp and Roger Evans for all your help. We got rid of quite a few rockachaws, weedeated, mowed and Joe "wove" some bamboo strips into the fence to make our pool pump & supplies not so noticeable when you are enjoying the downstairs deck. Thanks to Shelda Jones and Mary & James Hancock for all of their hard work on weeding, transplanting existing plants and planting new plants in our flower beds. It is looking great! Speaking of looking great - a huge thank you to James & Mary Hancock for our new palm trees in the front of our club. They are absolutely fantastic! I would like to thank Philip Whitsitt for caulking under the door and extending areas on the south side of the club where we used to have big puddles inside every time we got a blowing rain - no more inside puddles! We have a few new items at the club that are not exactly noticeable to everyone but help in a big way - we got a new commercial refrigerator in our kitchen and a new pool pump. Thank you so much to Don Rooker, Shelda Jones, Linda Johnson & David Fayard and his helpers in getting the refrigerator and setting it up (boy, what a trip that was for David & his guys getting the fridge up the stairs & in place and then getting the old one down the stairs!). Thank you to Dick Urban and Howard Kapp for getting the new pool pump installed. Thank you also to Freddy Welch, Howard Kapp, Roger Evans and Alan Pace for taking care of our pool. If you haven't seen the bar top lately, make it a point to come see - it is beautiful. Thank you Steve Harmon, Joe Harmon & Zoran Whelan for working on this project. Another project we have had is trying to get rid of our "resident" pigeons! Thanks to James Hancock, Don Evans, John Hans and Shelda Jones for all your efforts in trying to make this happen. We had a yard sale to benefit the club and a big thanks goes to June Wiggins, her son Chris, Marguerite Hess, Linda Johnson, and Diane Evans for tackling this project. The new bistro sets June got recently for the upper deck are very comfortable and she is hoping to purchase two more sets with the proceeds. The biggest event we had this month was the 420 Championship - complete with a crawfish boil and waterslide. Thank you first and foremost to our Fleet Captain Holly Murray. You do an awesome job with our sailing program and our juniors and I know it was no small task putting this together. A big thank you goes to Wallace Palatou of Southern Yacht Club, Lawrence, Judy & Freckles Simpson, Joe Fleming, Joey Stokes, Shaun Kirk/SYC, Jules Nunn/SYC, Shannon Weatherly/GYC, Christy Welch, Daddy-Fred Welch, Bo Clarke, Rose Lester, Marge & Mimi/SYC, Tami Klassen, Philip Whitsitt, Mike & Dante' White, Kert Meyer, Ed & Becky Keefer, Carey Trapani/BWYC, Karla Whitsitt, Shelda Jones, Piper Whitsitt, James & Mary Hancock, Glenn & Paulette Bohne, Lon Moran, Tanita Ohliger, Mike Moore, Dick Marx, Samantha Raborn, Charlie & Patti Coleman and Lyda Murray for all your help. We couldn't have done it without you all! (I hope I have listed everyone - if I left anyone out, it was not purposely and hope you'll forgive me!) Glenn, Lon & Mike did a great job on the crawfish - they were delicious. All in all, I think we had a successful regatta. The waterslide was a hit - even for some of us "mature sliders"! (I'm still sore!) We are an incredible club and I truly appreciate all of your dedication and commitment. AND, in the middle of all this, Holly held sailing camp with approximately 27 up-an-coming sailors! One more thing I want to mention - I hope you have enjoyed the tasty food our new Thursday night cook has prepared. Her name is Laura Taylor and if you haven't met her, please stick your head in the kitchen and say hi. If there is anything in particular you would like her to fix please let me know. Also, thank you to all who have been continuing to fix desserts. As you can see, June has been a very busy month. We have a party scheduled for the 4th (including a waterslide) so please come down and enjoy the fun. Check the calendar for all upcoming events and as always, we look forward to seeing you at your club.

ENTERTAINMENT COMMITTEE JUNE WIGGINS Hi folks! Can you believe it is July already! We have had a great month of June. We had sailing lessons the first two weeks- with a 420 regatta in the middle. With that - Glenn Bohne cooked up some wonderful crawfish (thanks Glenn, Lon and the guys). I had been trying to find some affordable bistro sets- and was finally successful. We have two new bistro sets that can overlook the railing and are comfortable. We had a garage sale on the 19th and made just enough for maybe 2 more sets. Many thanks to Julie Noble, Diane Evans, Linda Johnson, and Marguerite Hess for helping with the garage sale. COMING UP!!- ------ 4TH OF JULY!!! We are having a water slide for the kids. It has been soooooo hottttttt!!!. This will help the kids keep cool until the fireworks start. Freddie Welch has donated a bunch of fireworks and would welcome more. The club is providing the hot dogs and hamburgers- you bring the sides and/or desserts. There will be some awesome food- so don t miss this. The food will start at 6pm. There is no charge and we have the best view on the coast. Bring the family and have a great time. In July there will lots of sailing going on. Check the calendar for the dates and places and come support our teams- our sailing kids are awesome. Thank you Holly Murray for all the work you do for the sailing. MEMBERSHIP KATHY BURNS Steve Harmon was approved for reinstatement. Joe Harmon of Long Beach will be presented for reinstatement and Chris and Janice Nichols of Gulfport, MS will be presented for membership. The following names are applicants presented for Junior membership: Aidan Mikulenka Noah Coggin Grace Patterson Joshua Patterson Killian Hoyt Chyna Byrd Megan Bryant Sage Barrett CC Annulis Ben Hartery Conner Hartery Carter Harrison Nicole Harrison SUPPORT YOUR CLUB - BUY A BRICK DON EVANS BRICK SALES - I'm sure everyone chuckles at the little joke that ensues when someone asks if I have any more bricks for sale, and I answer, "I've got one left". The truth is, there are 392 bricks available for engraving, and we have sold 60 so far. This means that there are 332 still available for purchase. When you deduct expenses for the purchase, engraving, and installation of the bricks, we have made a profit of $4,445.74 so far. With a potential profit exceeding $30,000 if all the bricks are sold, this project represents an important fund raising event for the club. Bricks cost $100 each. Order forms are available at the bar, and you can purchase your brick from Linda, our bartender, and charge it to your account at the club. Or if you prefer, you can give me a call me at 228-697-4415 to place an order, which also will be charged to your account Your 4 x 8 brick will have space for one, two, or three lines, with 21 characters per line. A space counts as a character. Purchase a brick and make sure your name is set in stone at the yacht club. RACE AND SAIL COMMITTEE ROY BURKE It s official. FREE SPIRIT has won 1 st in class and 10 th in fleet in the Bermuda Ocean Race from Annapolis, Maryland to St. George, Bermuda. The boat was skippered by Tom Stokes with crew Chip Sandifer, Roy Burke, Artie and Todd Geary. We received trophies for 1 st in class and 1 st in class to cross the finish line. FREE SPIRIT led the class from start to finish. It was fun for all aboard. Tom and I left Long Beach in his truck on the 6 th of June bound for Petrini s boat yard in Annapolis. We arrived on the 8 th. We began preparations the following morning. All went well. The bottom was painted and sanded with 2500 grit sandpaper and it was smooth like glass. It didn t go back in the water until the night before the race. On race morning, food and stores were loaded. We headed out to the start early to check things out and join the boat parade. We had many well wishers there as Tom and I have in-laws in Maryland. The start was moved from in front of Eastport Yacht Club to a location near the Chesapeake Bay Bridge due to one of the boats drawing too much to start in front of the club. The rest is history. The start was slow in light air. The wind gradually freshened but we were on a beat most of the way through the Chesapeake Bay. Just before leaving the bay there was a wind shift and the falling tide was rushing out. We passed the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel doing 10 knots. That may be a record for FREE SPIRIT. We were beating much of the way during the Atlantic leg but not all of it. We were on a spinnaker reach for close to a total 150 miles. We dropped the spinnaker just a few miles short of the finish after carrying it all night. The spinnaker could have been the difference maker for us. We were happy to see all our wives and some relatives waving at us from a pile of rocks at the point entering the harbor at St. George. A nice end to a successful race. We have had a nice vacation and will be leaving for home on June 24 th. Tom Stokes won the first round of the LBYC St. George, Bermuda Invitational Croquet Tournament. I won the second round. I don t know the schedule for the rubber match. Keep an eye on our return on www.iboattrack.com. Just open the track back feature. See you at the club in a few weeks.

4 TH OF JULY AT LBYC THE FUN WILL START AT 5PM WE ARE HAVING A WATERSLIDE HOT DOGS AND HAMBURGERS AT 6 PM NO CHARGE YOU BRING THE SIDE DISH/DESSERT FIREWORKS by FREDDIE WELCH (He would welcome more fireworks to add to the show!) COME AND JOIN US!

Thank you to Kellly Moore and Mike White for the pictures.

FLEET CAPTAIN HOLLY MURRAY The month of June has been a busy month for our junior sailing we started out sailing the Schools Out Regatta at Pontchartrain YC. A big congrats to Ricky Welch for placing 1 st in the opti white fleet, and Erin Keefer and Maddy Murray for placing 2 in the 420 class. Khloe Ohliger and Mandy Raborn also sailed the 420 class that weekend. That same weekend we had Joey Stokes and Lyda Murray sailing in St. Andrews Bay for our capdeville team. After a fun weekend in Mandeville we jumped right into sailing camp first thing Monday morning with 27 kids. I personally had a blast but I also had some fantastic help, we owe a big thanks to: Philip Whitsitt, Jennifer Ezelle, Kelley Moore, Lyda Murray, Mandy Raborn, Khloe Ohliger, Erin Keefer, Nicole Harrison, Jordan Robbins and Quentin Whitsitt. I want to also thank our Friday cooks Becky Keefer and Caroyln D Cerchio, they served some awesome burgers. Also, Dante and Michael White served up some cool snowballs for a Friday treat. It was a busy two weeks for everyone with Long Beach hosting the 420 Championship right in the middle of the camp, but I think a good time was had by all. Thirteen 420 boats participated in the regatta, including skippers and crews from SYC, FYC, LBYC, GYC, BYC, BWYC, and PCYC. Five races were held on Saturday and four on Sunday. SYC took 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd place with honorable mention awarded to LBYC skipper Mandy Raborn and crew Killian Hoyt. This race marked Raborn s debut as a skipper and Killian had only been sailing for five days. Other sailors from LBYC were Khloe Ohliger, Erin Keefer, Quintin Whitsitt, and Maddy Murray. I personally cannot say enough for all that helped with the GYA 420 Championship, support and effort did not go unnoticed by others either. I have many compliments about the entire weekend of festivities A big congratulation goes out to Khloe Ohliger, Erin Keefer, and Hugh Hawkins from GYC who sailed in the Jr. Flying Scot North American Championship. They did an outstanding job and were one of the few boats that sailed with all juniors. Also, participating in the 2010 North American Flying Scot championship are skipper Holly Murray and crew Khloe Ohliger and Erin Keefer. They are in the championship division.. Sailing events for the month of July (dates to add to your calendar) July 10-11 at FWYC the Meigs Regatta, also at Pontchartrain YC Chubb s youth Semi-Finals July 15-16 at GYC the Memorial Regatta July 17-18 at MYC the Summer Regatta July 24-25 at GYC the Weatherly Regatta July 31- Aug 1 at GYC the Junior Lipton s
