WOMEN S SOCCER 6-7 RECAPS Women s Soccer Region XII Semi- vs. Schoolcraft College October 9, 6 @ : pm - : pm Schoolcraft College For the second year in a row the Muskegon Community College women s soccer team qualified for the NJCAA Region tournament. And, for the second year in a row the Jayhawks had to face nationally ranked Schoolcraft College in the first round. The Jayhawks struggled with Schoolcraft this year in two previous meetings but showed up to play on Saturday at Grand Haven High School. With an organized defense, the Jayhawks were able to keep the Ocelots to one goal until 6 minutes to go in the game and eventually fell by a final score of. The Jayhawks finished the 6-7 campaign with a 4-6 conference record and 5-9 overall. The team will take a brief moment to reflect on the 6 season and then quickly put their focus on the 7-8 season with signing day on November st. Alyssa Benedict (Western Michigan Christian HS) scored first for the Jayhawks with assists from Racheal Darwin (Orchard View HS) and Lauren Maus (Fruitport HS). Darwin finished off the scoring by converting on a penalty kick just before half time. Micky Wall (Oakridge HS) and Madison Blackwell (Mona Shores HS) split time in the goal for the Jayhawks. With the win on Saturday MCC clinched a birth in the NJCAA Region tournament for the second season in a row. Women s Soccer @ Cincinnati State Tech & CC September 4, 6 @ : pm - 5: pm Cincinnati State Tech & CC The Muskegon Community College women s soccer team got off to a quick start against Cincinnati State Tech & CC when Lyric Glaser (Reeths Puffer HS) connected on a long pass to Megan Larabee (Oakridge HS) on the opening kick-off for the opening goal of the match. The Jayhawks struggled to find any sort of rhythm, however, and lost to the Surge 7. MCC is now - in Conference play and -4 overall. They return to action on Wednesday, 9/8 when the host Schoolcraft at 4: pm at Orchard View High School. 7 Women s Soccer Home vs. Lake Michigan College September, 6 @ 4: pm - 6: pm 5 Lake Michigan College Muskegon Community College got back in the win column with a 5 win over visiting Lake Michigan College. Paige Swanson (Montague HS) started off the scoring 4 minutes into the first half with a breakaway goal, assisted by Yojaira Campos (West Ottawa HS) and Hannah Jones (Oakridge HS). Just before half time Campos scored a highlight reel goal when Brianna Wade (Orchard View HS) flicked a ball up and over the defense and Campos volleyed the ball in for the goal. Swanson also assisted on the goal. minutes into the second half, Alyssa Benedict (West Michigan Christian HS) connected on a pass to Wade to put the Jayhawks on top. Wade scored her second goal of the game 5 minutes later with passes from Campos and Swanson. Benedict scored the final goal of the night off an assist from Lauren Maus (Fruitport HS).

They next travel to Cincinnati, OH for a tough match with Cincinnati State & Tech CC on Saturday, 9/4. Women s Soccer Home vs. Jackson College September 8, 6 @ 4: pm - 6: pm Jackson College The Jayhawks looked to bounce back against Conference foe Jackson College but came up just short with a - loss. They trailed at the half but got second half goals, one from Racheal Darwin (Orchard View HS) with assists to Terri Carlson (Whitehall HS) and Paige Swanson (Montague HS) and then a second goal by Brianna Wade (Orchard View HS) assisted by Hannah Jones (Oakridge HS) and Courtney Burnside (Grand Haven HS). Even though the team played a tough 9 minutes their second half rally fell just short. The Jayhawk women s soccer team got back on the winning track by defeating the Alma College JV team on Sunday afternoon by a score of -. The Jayhawks were able to create plenty of scoring chances with shots on goal and were finally able to get on the scoreboard in the 87th minute with a goal by Alyssa Benedict (Western Michigan Christian HS), assisted by Courtney Burnside (Grand Haven HS) and Yojaira Campos (West Ottawa HS). Alma scored to tie the game at - but Benedict scored again in the 9th minute off a direct kick from Lyric Glaser (Reeths Puffer HS) for the game winning goal. MCC is now - in MCCAA action and - overall. They return to the field on Saturday, 9/7 when they travel to University Center, MI to take on Delta College. Game time is : pm. Women s Soccer Home vs. Ancilla College September, 6 @ : pm - 5: pm Ancilla College It took a complete game plus two overtime periods before Muskegon Community College could score the game winner against the Chargers of Ancilla College. The Jayhawks held possession for the majority of the game but they weren t able to create too many quality attacks against Ancilla. 47 seconds into the second overtime, Brianna Wade (Orchard View HS) scored the game winner with assists from Megan Larabee (Oakridge HS) and Lyric Glaser (Reeths-Puffer HS). Our back line had been struggling to hit targets for most of the game but Lyric had a great pass getting Megan behind the defense to the corner. Megan was able to find Brianna who had an upper 9 shot for the golden goal win on her old high school home field, said Coach Jeff Lohman after the game. Madison Blackwell (Mona Shores HS) and Micki Wall (Oakridge HS) combined in goal for the shut-out for the Jayhawks. MCC is now - in conference play and - overall. They play at Alma on Sunday, 9//6.
