WTCA November March Meeting 03/12/18 Call to order by J.D. Booker. Minutes Correction in start time for Pat s Sunday Ride. The ride will not change times until April. Parade Permit for Ride of Silence has been paid, membership for League of American Cyclists and insurance payments have been made. Lori LBC Current balance $9535.09. $75.00 needs to be deposited for Jerseys, minus some expenses for Gravel Grind. Pat G Chaparral is at $43.55. Tour Report General Information First Weekend in March hosted the Big Bend ride. o Several people went o For next year, the gravel riders are suggesting going west to east for easier options. o They also suggest having a sag vehicle if possible. Rails to Trails March 24 th o Plan to depart Lubbock at 7 am, wheels roll from Monk s crossing at 9:00am o Donna will be the last rider and will return with the first return rider to set up lunch. o Lunch will be around $3 and park fee is $4. o Approximate cost will be $7. o Distance is around 34 miles Steam N Wheels this weekend in Abilene, March 17 Land Run Easter Hill Country Ride is April 1 st. Old Business New changes to the Weekly Ride Schedule. o Pat s Sunday Stroll will change in April to 10 am. o All during-week rides will begin March 13 th, 2018. o A beginner rides will begin March 13 th, 2018. o Second Saturday Southland Loop has begun and other Weekend rides will be posted to Facebook. Southland loop March 10 th had a decent turn out. Caprock Gravel Grinder o 28 signed up as of 03/12 Getting people from Amarillo, Dallas/Fort Worth, Alpine, etc. o Caps have been ordered and are in production. We should get them April 7th o Chamois Butter and Hammer Nutrition have become sponsors. o April 21 st is the date of the event o T-shirts will be offered for sale on BikeReg. o Jester s will be printing shirts for $16 standard with XXL and above for $18. o For some of the swag we looked at getting cycling hats for $10. Early registrants will get to pick their choice of summer or winter hat. Randy has secured the ReMax space for us for at least a couple of months. The Loop 289 Marathon is coming up. o We haven t heard any more from the organizers since the Are we interested in holding the Ride of Silence this year? o The national organizer is starting to send out information. o Our ride will occur May 16 th. o Parade License has been purchased. o There should not be a need to vote as this is already a part of the budget. League of American Cyclists o Two and a half days of training o To train ride leaders how to lead a ride and what to do in various situations. Brian and Susan s Daughter has been competing through NICA (National Interscholastic Cycling Association o They are looking for more team members (specifically more female riders). o If you know any kids who would be interested in joining, please contact the Algers. City s Bicycle Plan Committee o There will be a Public Meeting from 5 7 April 11 th (Wednesday) at 916 Main Street. There will be an email closer to the date of the meeting looking for a group to ride to the public meeting. Maybe meet at the Tech Museum and then ride to the meeting. This will be an informational meeting to let the community know what is going on currently and to get feedback from community members as to what may be wanted. o We will be sending out notices prior to public meetings so club members can attend. o As further information comes out, it will be relayed to the club. New Business We will request that new waivers be signed at least annually for each ride. Please note there are Mountain Bike rides that currently are not totally associated with the Club on Tuesday and Thursday. 6
o There might be options to have a club related ride. o There is discussion about starting a monthly time trial for the Mountain Bike routes. All rides will require certain aspects in order to be insured under the WTCA Insurance. Caprock Escarpment will be moved to the Fall. MS 150 will occur July 21 st 22 nd. Paul Nickel s Memorial ride/ Tour de Nowhere is July 28 th. July 4 th Parade (on a Wednesday) o Kent Crowell is curious about us being a part of the Parade. o He can offer several modified bikes for the parade. o There are certain requirements necessary for attendance. Judging begins at 7 am and the parade rolls out at 9 Prior Years have had everything done by 11:30 am. o For Corporate Entrance it would be $200 for before June 22 nd. Kent will head up a Committee He will send out an email to see who/how many will be interested. There will be a deadline to let Kent know of interest For Social Media o Only Officers have direct access to post using the Facebook Name If there needs to be a post, currently, people need to notify the officers and the officers will post. o Is there an option to allow more people to access the Facebook Name? How do we keep anyone/everyone from posting to the group? What other posting options can we look into? What issues have arisen previously? Is there an option for creating a forum on the Website? Can we setup a Private Facebook group as a discussion forum? If there are rides or other events that arise, then those can be posted to the general page. Doug Register sill look into the options for a private group o We will try to have options ready for the April meeting. Since this is a business style group, there needs to be more restriction in who can post on the page. There will need to be a new Ride Leader for The Post to Gail ride We will also need a new ride leader for the Intermediate Saturday ride.
