Commodores Corner Hi Folks, The Island Party was a fun time. Plenty of comradery, food, drink, and games. The water was warm and the weather warmer. Dave s Popeye Rum Punch seemed to be favored over the Wimpy Rum Punch. I hear there is now a third rum punch that taste pretty good. Thanks to all who participated and made this an enjoyable day. The next Book Club is on July 11 th and the book is Arthur and George by Julian Barnes. There are 2 cruises coming up soon, Treasure Island on July 21 22 and Three Rooker on August 4. I understand that the cruise to Treasure Island is full for both the slips needed and for dinner. The Three Rooker cruise is wide open, so make plans to attend. For those who like sunset cruises, our Social Chair Cindy is putting together 2 more sunset cruises on the 47 foot Leopard catamaran Kuma. The July 28 th cruise is already sold out, so sign up quickly for the September 15 th sunset cruise. I would like to welcome our 2 newest family memberships Terri & Michael Johnson and Dana Windhorst & Chrisse Waddell to the Dunedin Boat Club. Harold Schomaker Commodore

Commodores Corner Immediate Past Commodore Blair Kooi mentioned to me that the new enhanced Dunedin Museum is having a opening in July and that memberships are free to Dunedin residents for the first 3 months. There is a portion of the museum dedicated to sailing and the Dunedin Boat Club. Sounds like a place to check out. Patrick Donoghue provided me the following information from Caitlin Womble, Marina Director for Marker 1 Marina: On Monday, July 9 th, a major upgrade to our entire fuel system will commence. We will not be able to pump fuel for the duration of this upgrade. Please know that we are doing everything in our power to coordinate a seamless upgrade. The fuel system is extremely important to the Marina as a whole and while we are striving go get it completed as quickly as possible, it is crucial that we take the time to be sure everything is done correctly. No expected completion date was provided. Be safe out on the water and enjoy life. Harold In an archival photo, young sailors learn to maneuver their prams, a still-popular vessel for teaching sailing created by Dunedin boat builder Clark Mills. Vice Commodore Holy Cow! The special program for July is drum beat. more drum beat. NONE! Yes, in honoring all the past years of HOT July meetings we are having absolutely no special program! What his really means is that we all will have more time to socialize, watch the sunset and enjoy the back porch on boat club! So come one, come all, and see your friends, find out what is going at the boat club and enjoy the evening. The regular program and updates on the Dunedin Boat Club and its activities will happen and their usual time. So come out and enjoy and warm July evening at the Dunedin Boat Club and have no worries of a hot meeting you won t be inside that long! Terry Hopkins Vice Commodore

Race Committee The final race of the Bay Series ended with a record 17 boats on the course. We finished up with a pizza party. Three of the teens from DYSA raced enough of the races to receive a trophy. 1. Matthew Schneider came in first in every single race 2. Marissa Baney came in second overall 3. Chris MacNamara finished third In the keelboats: 1. Dave Austin came in first in Variete, his 26' Beneteau 2. Mary Ellen Fiore second, in Freedom, an Ensign 3. Dennis Bosi Family came in third in Challenger, their Morgan 33', despite sailing only half the races! FUN FUN FUN! We got the last Bay Race in the books with a strong showing of Skippers, a stong Race Day Management Team, and some fun loving spectators. A good time was had by all. Thanks Carol, Howard, Rusty and David. Race results at the DBC website Saturday. Check out the Website, members only section for volunteering on the Race Day Management Team AND check out the Skipper Crew Connection page if you want to crew on a boat. Skippers find crew and Crew find slippers. Dunedin Racing Rocks!

Race Committee Preparations are in full swing for the Dunedin Cup, the first Gulf Boat of the Year race for the 2018-2019 season. The Boat of the Year races are held to a higher standard than the regular club races. We have mark boats lined up, the race committee with our members Paula and Ken Shur and Sheryl Barnes working with David Billing, the Principal Race Officer. T shirts have been ordered. The web site has been set up by George Schott so that people can enter on line, order dinner tickets and Tshirts and pay with PayPal. The remaining need is a Committee Boat for the race committee to be on when they are running the races. Lunch and water will be provided for all. This job consists of taking the race committee out with you, anchoring your boat in the designated spot about 1 mile south of Clearwater Pass, and relaxing while they run the race. You will be on station from approximately 9:30am until 3pm. If you are interested, please contact Carol Elwood at 727-510-9158 Carol Elwood Race Committee Chair We want everyone to get on the water who wants to do so!! These races are also a good time for people to get experience being part of the race committee. The races are being run right at the dock with no need for a committee boat. I will be calling people who have their names on the list for potential race committee positions.

The Upcoming Boat of the Year races 2018-2019 for the Gulf Region are: Sept. 29 Oct. 6 March 2 March 9 Dunedin Cup hosted by Dunedin Boat Club Clearwater to Pass a Grille hosted by Clearwater Yacht Club Pass a Grille Run hosted by Dunedin Boat Club Crown Cars hosted by St. Petersburg Yacht Club March 30 Clearwater Challenge hosted by Clearwater Yacht Club April 11-14 Suncoast Race week hosted by Davis Island Yacht Club, Bradenton Yacht Club and St. Petersburg Yacht Club

Book Club Book Club for August 8, 2018, 7PM The book is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen 'It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.' Thus memorably begins Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, one of the world's most popular novels. Pride and Prejudice --tells the story of fiercely independent Elizabeth Bennett, one of five sisters who must marry rich, as she confounds the arrogant, wealthy Mr. Darcy. What ensues is one of the most delightful and engrossingly readable courtships known to literature. Humorous and profound, and filled with highly entertaining dialogue, this witty comedy of manners dips and turns through drawing-rooms and plots to reach an immensely satisfying finale. Sharon Williams is hosting, 1891 Del Oro Ct, Dunedin On the DBC website you can let the host know you are coming by clicking on Book Club, or by clicking on Book List if you would like more information about the books we are reading. The Book Club meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 7 pm, and munchies first, we do have our priorities. COMING NEXT: September 12: Wonder Girl, The Magnificent Sporting Life of Babe Didrikson Zaharias by Don Van Natta Jr., Sharon Grimshaw hosting, 983 Bayou Lane, Crystal Beach. This is a book that a lot of members may want to read Babe played at the Dunedin Golf Club when it was the home of the PGA.
