Background What is a Transportation Master Plan? Municipal Class EA Process A Transportation Master Plan (TMP) is a longterm, strategic planning document that directs policies and infrastructure for the City s transportation system. The Transportation Master Plan is being conducted in accordance with the requirements of Phases 1 and 2 of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process, which is an approved process under the Environmental The City has had two previous TMPs the first Assessment Act. was issued in 1970, the year the City was amalgamated, and the second was issued in 1989. These earlier plans were primarily automobile-focused. The Class Environmental Assessment process provides a transparent public process for planning and building municipal infrastructure ensuring public and stakeholder participation throughout. This new TMP, which will guide the City s transportation infrastructure investments for the next 20+ years, will develop a practical, long-term plan for the City s transportation system to meet the needs of pedestrians, cyclists, transit riders, motorists and goods movement. Outcomes of this study will include: A new Transportation Master Plan An update to the Active Transportation Plan Supporting transportation policies and guidelines 2
