Please copy and distribute to parents, spectators, athletic directors, etc. We want ALL to be well informed! We will no longer have a safety rotation in the scheduled warm-up area. We are offering pre-state events where you can get a full judges critique and safety clearance for NCHSAA but at the actual NCHSAA Cheerleading Championships, we are giving you more warm-up time instead of having the safety check! We will however, have a safety judge in the warm-up area in case you have had any changes since pre-states, or any last minute questions to put you at ease! Please note that if you add something new and different from when you were cleared at a Pre-State event and it is illegal, you will receive a deduction. Additionally, although PreState events are amazing practice to get your athletes on the floor the difference between scores at PreStates and NCHSAA could vary because of the depth of divisions, expectation of the elite judging panels used at NCHSAA, and common fact that each time you perform is different. Please use PreState events as a practice for NCHSAA but not as a guarantee of scoring or placement at NCHSAA. PreState dates: October 28, 2017 Erwin HS Asheville, NC November 4, 2017 Cox Mill HS Concord, NC November 11, 2017 Sanderson HS Raleigh, NC November 18, 2017 Ashley HS Wilmington, NC Registration for PreState events is due 10 days prior to the event and is a flat rate of $300 per team. Saturday, December 2, 2017 Registration begins at 8:00 AM and will run until 5:00 PM. Please arrive at least 1 hour prior to your warm-up time allotments. If your scheduled warm-up time is after 5:00 PM, one coach needs to register the team prior to 5:00 PM. (Schedule will be emailed to coaches on November 10, 2016). Team Competition begins at 9:00 AM. The Order of Appearance and competition times will be emailed to coaches on November 28 th. This event had over 140 teams last year so please plan on a FULL day of cheerleading. Plan to be in Raleigh the night before if possible and plan on staying Saturday night Raleigh is full of amazing opportunities so plan a full day! Please note that award ceremonies will be held throughout the day but there could be a few hours between your competition time and your award ceremony. Make sure Cheer Ltd. has an email address on file that allows you to receive these email updates! The specific order of performance will only be available to coaches in the email sent on November 28 th and on-site to spectators. If you have not received your email by end of day November 28 th, please contact Cheer Ltd. immediately! Raleigh Convention Center 500 South Salisbury Street Raleigh, NC 27601 Spectators: $10.00 per person. Children 5 and under are free. Coaches: Two coaches will be admitted free with each team. Additional coaches are required to pay with their teams registration ($25 each additional coach). If you did not pre-register an extra coach, that coach will need to

purchase a spectator pass for $10 at the door and will not be allowed in the warm-up or coach/athlete specific areas. NCHSAA Cheerleading Championships will follow 2017-2018 NFHS Spirit Rules. NCHSAA sent a copy of the Spirit Rules to each school in July. Please speak with your athletic director if you have not received yours. Competition requirements for the NCHSAA Cheerleading Championships: Maximum routine is 2:30 and teams may have no more than 1 minute 30 seconds of music. This means 1 minute of cheer! Please note that music will be timed and there will be a deduction for any music that is more than 1:30. There is no grace period! Music Rules for all cheer teams please go here and make sure you are compliant! https://varsity.com/page/3/music The Raleigh Convention Center is again providing a place for athletes and coaches only (Near Warm-up Arena) that is dedicated to make-up, hair, chilling and getting ready! This area is ONLY open to athletes and cheerleaders. Security will allow athletes and cheerleaders to utilize this area at any time but this is the ONLY area that is allowed for makeup and hairspray. These bathrooms and rooms are dedicated to your athletes so please do not allow them to go to any other bathroom, hallway, etc. to get ready! The Raleigh Convention Center (RCC) is a premier location for the NCHSAA Cheerleading Championship and we are honored to be in such a first-class facility. The RCC does have many other events on location the same weekend as the NCHSAA Invitational Cheerleading Championships. Because this facility will not be just hosting our event, they have asked that athletes, coaches, and parents please not have team meetings, apply makeup, etc. in the commons area of the venue. Sportsmanship is the basis of the NCHSAA and disrespectful behavior can harm your team! Disqualification is determined by NCHSAA so please stress to parents, fans, etc. that the security and administration of RCC, NCHSAA, and Cheer Ltd. are required by law to make sure certain exits are always clear, the rules of the venue are upheld, and the rules of the competition are upheld. I can t express enough that all who enter this competition to compete, coach, or watch are held to the highest standards and are not only representing their school but are representing the NCHSAA. Do not allow a parent or fan to take away the work that has been put in by these athletes. Common courtesy and manners are expected from all. Teams are welcome to come in, register, and enter into the competition arenas, visit the cheer mall with all the amazing vendors or meet and mingle outside the RCC. Teams may not lounge in the commons area. To take a virtual tour, find out about downtown Raleigh, and find out about the free new downtown hydroelectric circulator, the R-Line that will take you to restaurants, retail shops, etc. visit www.raleighconvention.com. Downtown Raleigh parking decks are sometimes free and sometimes require payment. Because the parking deck is owned and operated by a private firm, NCHSAA and Cheer Ltd are unable to give you a definitive answer to this question. Parking decks choose times and events to charge for at their discretion. Be prepared to pay to park in the parking deck across from the Raleigh Convention Center at approximately $8.00 per vehicle. Please have buses drop athletes off in the taxi lane (it will be blocked for team buses only) on Cabarrus street. This is a drop off for the athletes then the bus will be directed to LOT G this lot has been reserved for NCHSAA and BUSES ONLY! All parents/athletes/fans/coaches/athletes must enter the Raleigh Convention Center through the Cabarrus Street doors. You will be shown where to go from there! The Marriott Hotel is connected to the RCC but the Marriott connector/escalator to the RCC will be closed! This keeps everyone out of the cheerleader and coach specific area. You will need to walk a few more steps but it makes a safer environment for all. EVERYONE should enter the competition from the Cabarrus Street entrance. Coaches it is up to you to share this information with your parents and athletes and be prepared yourself to follow the rules! Concessions will be available inside the Raleigh Convention Center. No outside food, drinks or smoking are allowed. The main concession stand will be open from 8:30 AM 9:00 PM; Coffee and smoothie kiosk will be

open from 8:30 AM 9:00 PM; Fresh deli/salad kiosk will be open from 9:00 AM 9:00 PM. There are also several locations within walking distance of the Raleigh Convention Center for you to eat! All teams are called to the floor by division for their award ceremony. All teams that reach the minimum score will earn a bid to Cheer Ltd. Nationals at CANAM that will be held March 16-18, 2018 at the Myrtle Beach Sports Center in Myrtle Beach, SC. The top 3 places ONLY will be awarded (Champion, 2 nd Place, 3 rd Place) Champions receive a champion banner, champion trophy and champion medals. Champions from each Varsity Division will be in the running for the Carolina Cup! The Carolina Cup will be announced at the final award ceremony! All Varsity Champions will be called back to the floor for the presentation of the Carolina Cup Award which is the highest Varsity scoring team from ALL the Varsity Divisions. If you are the Champion in your Varsity Division you will need to stay for this final award ceremony. I know this will be a long day for teams but luckily there are so many amazing things to do in Raleigh! You do not need to stay at the Convention Center! Just return in time for the final award ceremony! Go shopping, go have a team meal, go do one of the million things Raleigh has to offer! Time Warner Cable will not be filming at the NCHSAA Cheerleading Championship for 2017. Event Specific NCHSAA retail will be sold by Marketing Special Promotions, LLC. (MSP). In the confirmation email you received, the pre-order form and a sneak peek at the 2017 championship apparel, was attached. You may pre-order your teams tees so that your sizes are available for you when you arrive! They will have your shirts packed and ready to hand right over to you! Vendors will be placed throughout The Cheer Mall area with bows, awesome accessories, bows, equipment, bows, basic cheer clothing, bows, makeup and bows! Make sure to bring money so you can purchase some amazing items for Christmas! Cheer Ltd. has been contracted by NCHSAA to organize, run and produce this event. For any competition, registration, division, scoresheets, or NFHS rules questions, please contact Cheer Ltd. at 1-800-477-8868 or email event director Scotti Marshburn at scottim@cheerltd.com For NCHSAA event t-shirt please contact Marketing and Special Promotions (MSP) directly at 302-363-0865 or via email at pjonesmsp@gmail.com.
