There are 15 different species of hedgehogs in the world. Hedgehogs have around 5,000 7,000 spines on their backs. When hedgehogs get scared their spines go up. A group of hedgehogs is called an array. 15-hedgehog-facts-for-kids.com Lovethegarden.com Hawk Talk Prairie View Elementary N O V E M B E R 2 0 1 7 Teacher Spotlight: Katia Ramon 2nd grade dual language teacher by: Jayla Adams Mrs. Ramon was born in Puerto Rico. N E W S Her favorite childhood memory is of her grandma because she liked serving and helping others. Mrs. Ramon likes the dual language program here at Prairie View since it helps the dual language students feel confident and proud of their culture. She also enjoys it because English students are learning Spanish and Spanish students are learning English. Her favorite place to read is a chair in a cozy corner in her room. Mrs. Ramon has a cat named Kleo. She named her cat Kleo with a K because of the K in her first name. Mexican food is Mrs. Ramon s favorite. If she could go anywhere in the world, she would go to Europe, especially Greece and Italy. Some of Mrs. Ramon s hobbies include watching movies, reading and yoga. The 7 habits have changed Mrs. Ramon because when she left Puerto Rico, she barely knew English and the 7 habits have made her feel much more confident and have made her a leader. She tries to surround herself with positive people. Mrs. Ramon says if she weren't a teacher, she would be a psychologist. Her favorite quote is from her favorite book El Principito, The essential is invisible to the eyes. If Mrs. Ramon were to give another teacher a tip, she would tell them not just to teach, but to be a good role mode. Thank you, Mrs. Ramon, for being an amazing teacher here on the Prairie!

History Was Earned By Landon Culwell The 2017 World Series matched up the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Houston Astros. The Houston Astros fought their way to 4 wins to win the title. With two outs, LA s Cory Seager hit the ball to the Astro s second baseman, Jose Altuve, for the final out, and that was the World Series. The Astros won! The final score was 5 to 1 and the MVP of the World Series was George Springer. He is the first player to hit four home runs in 7 World Series games. Astros pitcher Justin Verlander pitched multiple games and he was the star pitcher in the 2017 World Series; this is his third World Series win. The Houston Astros had previous difficulties because of Hurricane Harvey, but they never gave up hope, fought back and won the World Series. This is the Astro s first ever World Series win in history. EARNED HISTORY! I am Thankful By: Jonathan Dodt This is the season for family and pie, but more importantly to count our blessings. We celebrate Thanksgiving by giving thanks and getting together with our family. We eat dinner and say prayers. It is important to be thankful because that will show others that you care. I am thankful for my family, my home, and my school. I am thankful for my family because they will always be there to support me. I am thankful for my home because we can live and stay protected there. I am also thankful for my school because it is the world's best school with the world s best teachers. Sometimes we miss out on the reason of Thanksgiving because we are in a rush to get to Christmas. Stores want money and release the Christmas book of toys even before Halloween. I will admit that I even look at the book, and usually I will have my list ready before Halloween. But the next 2 months I am going to think more of what I am THANKFUL for rather than what I am going to get this Christmas. I am going to take my time to count my blessings. How do you celebrate Thanksgiving? How will you count your blessings this year? Oh,.. and by the way, HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Student Spotlight Jared Mangum Jared is in the 5th in Mrs. Wilkins s class. He was born in Arizona in 2006. His hobbies are playing outside, games, playing football in the park and going to school. His favorite thing about Prairie View are the chrome books. When he grows up, he wants to be an NFL football player. Jared has one older brother and one younger brother. Way to be a great Hawk leader, Jared!

Unicorn s Big Day By Lyric Nolte Unicorn loves adventures. Once he went to a volcano and jumped in. He used his magic horn to stay safe in the molten lava. This is so fun! Come in, the lava feels great, Dragon! Fine! OK! I will come in! Dragon said. Now they were both in. The lava monster knew it was time to attack. CHOMP! The lava monster ate the whole dragon. Gulp! He drank burning hot molten lava! what will I do? yelled Unicorn! Give up, lava man! Water beast said. Attack, Lava balls! Lava Monster bellowed. Water pins, go! Dodge all lava balls! Water beast said. Sploosh! The water quickly turned Lava Monster to stone. Dragon broke through and broke out! We win! said the proud newly made crime fighting trio. I will get you next time! They heard Lava Monster yell. They lived happily ever after. The End
