You guys did an amazing job of getting everything entered online and asked excellent questions. Way to go everyone!!! The 2017 Clarke County Fair Book had some errors with the equine rules and classes. We have worked hard to get these all corrected and have attached the NEW information for you. Poultry Exhibitors don t forget about Pullorum Typhoid testing see page 2 for more details! Please remember that it is required for all birds coming to the Clarke County Fair. The Clarke County Fair is less than forty-five days away! This newsletter is filled with new and important information! There are a lot of deadlines that are approaching soon! Please know that I am here to help you with all your 4-H questions. I can be reached at 641-342- 3316 (office phone) or my e-mail is mjamison@iastate.edu. ATTENTION 4-H, FFA, & CLOVER KIDS IMPORTANT DEADLINES Livestock Entry Form Due June 30 th This form is required for all 4-H, FFA and Clover Kid participants. 2 This form must be completed, signed, returned, and fees paid before 4:30 p.m. on Friday, June 30 th to the Extension Office. I have attached the 2017 County Fair Livestock Entry Form to this newsletter. The May 15 deadline only nominates your animals for the Clarke County Fair. This form now tells us officially what you plan to bring and what classes you plan to enter. If you plan on showing 4-H and FFA you will need to fill out two forms. Please use your fair book to help determine what classes are appropriate for you. Please note, there is a small fee included with the entry form. The fee will depend on what animal (s) you plan to bring and how many. Also note, clover kids fee is waved. Only cash or check will be accepted for the fee payment. If writing a check, please make payable to the Clarke County Fair Board. A heads up for families, I will be out of the office June 27-29 with a group of 4-Hers to conference. If you feel your family may have additional questions or need assistance, I would strongly encourage you to stop by the Extension Office before June 27. There will not be another date available, so please plan accordingly. Testing is required regardless of the birds age or where if came from. During testing, birds will receive a wing or leg band which will be used to id the birds in 4-H online by July 1. 3 Summer Day Camps The Clarke County Extension and AmeriCorps members are excited to announce the 2017 Summer Camps! A summer of adventures begins with A Bug's Life, with an opportunity to participate in the Osceola Olympics with a final wrap up Starting Your Future Here during the Clarke County Fair. With many more in between. Visit www.extension.iastate.edu/clarke for the registration packet and camp listings. Poultry & Rabbit Exhibitors The fair board is offering a fundraising opportunity to us! Exhibitors and their families will be selling wristbands for Joe s Old Fashioned Fun Carnival! Proceeds will be put towards the new barn electricity. We ask that each family to sign up for 1 shift to help out. Sale times will be: Thursday, Friday, & Saturday: 1:45 pm 9:30 pm Sunday: 11:45 am 5:00pm We do need parents to help out also! Times will be on a first come first serve basis. The fair board is selling wristbands in the extension office. They are $10/band/day in advance and $15/band/day during the fair. If you pre purchase 3 bands you get the 4th band for Free! Bands are available for Sale now through June 30th! They will again be available during the fair in the Rabbit/ Poultry Barn. There will be four inflatable activities and four mechanical rides. All proceeds from the band sales will be used towards the Rabbit/Poultry Barn. Drug Affidavit Forms Drug Affidavits are REQUIRED for market and breeding beef, horse, meat goat, sheep, and swine projects. I understand this is another form to complete, however, it is everyone s responsibility to ensure food entering the food chain is honest and safe for all consumers. Let s show how responsible Clarke County Fair participants are! This is similar to a record system. Participants will keep track of all medications their animals have come in contact with (injected, oral or topical) up until the animal is brought to the county fair. If any medication need to be given during county fair, please locate your appointed supervisor so we may get that medication added to your affidavit. 4-Hers can print these forms off at: www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/projects/livestock (under Animal Care/Disclosure Forms Drug Affidavits) or stop by the extension office to pick up a copy. 3

Iowa State Fair Exhibitors Did you retinal image your market beef, sheep or goat projects for the Iowa State Fair? Maybe you purchased DNA tags for your swine? Are you planning to show any other livestock at the Iowa State Fair such as dogs, rabbits, horses, breeding animals etc.? Please notice that there are LOTS of new updates with this process. You all have one final step to register for the Iowa State Fair: Families will go online to https://iowastatefair4hlivestock.fairentry.com and complete the registration. Entries will open Thursday, June 1 st and close on Saturday, July 1 st. Remember, this is a state deadline, under no circumstances will late entries be accepted. Please do not wait until the last minute. If you do not feel comfortable completing this process or could use additional assistance, your more than welcome to stop by the Extension Office. I have also included the Iowa State Fair Family Entry Help Sheet. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. 5 Clean-Up Schedule To keep our fairgrounds looking nice, we need everyone's help!
