UTA & Adult Leadership On Wednesday, October 19 the Youth Leadership group United Teens in Action (UTA), and the Wilkes Chamber of Commerce Leadership Wilkes (Adult Leadership) held Educational Day in Wilkes and traveled to several schools(mulberry Elementary, North Middle, and North High Schools). Superintendent D. Mark Byrd led the bus tour for Wilkes Educational Day. At The Mulberry,Principal Richie Cornett( Wilkes County Principal of the Year) and Assistant Principal Becky Spears gave tours of the school to their visitors. At North Middle, Principal Heather Freeman and her student ambassadors gave tours of the school. Students also gave an introduction to the new Leadership Program The Leader in Me- Taking the Lead in Middle Schools being implemented in Wilkes Middle Schools this year. At North Wilkes High School, Principal Lisa Joines and Jonathan Hutchins, Wilkes Community College Director, Career & College Promise, received a tour of the school and the new Project ADMIT(Advancing Development in Manufacturing and Integrated Technology) building. Both Leadership groups toured Wilkes Community College Herring Hall, the new human services facility, and received tours on Nursing Simulation Lab, Respiratory, EMS, and Dental Assisting Clinic. At the main Wilkes Community College campus, tours were given through Wilkes Early College High School Culinary Arts Program, Daniel Hall & McNeil Automotive.

Moravian Falls Annual School Wide Read This year Moravian Falls Elementary students & families read The BFG by Roald Dahl together. Appalachian State University Women's Basketball Team came and helped with their kick off and distribution event. Each of the ballplayers represented one of the giants in the story and wore the name of their giant on their shirt. The students were so excited to watch them shoot around and to have a celebrity ball player hand them their book!

PBIS Jungle Games at Mt Pleasant Mt Pleasant Elementary school celebrated their first quarter PBIS reward by participating in Jungle Games. The school s theme this year is We re Wild About Learning, so students who learned about the PBIS rules and followed them correctly the first quarter were able to participate in the games. The PBIS committee created the relay type games for classes to rotate through and Coach Benge made the signs to match. They had staff and volunteers running the games. The students had a blast playing games and competing with their classmates and other classrooms. Some of the favorites were tug of war, monkey buddy races, and Tarzan leaps.

NWMS Uses Interactive Maps North Wilkes Middle School got the opportunity to use the National Geographic map of Europe for 10 days. The map is 26' x 26' and is interactive. It was an incredible experience! The kids did not realize where most of the countries were until they were standing on them!
