The Squawk Wembley Junior Football Club www.wembleyjuniormagpies.com Welcome to the 1st edition of the Wembley Squawk 20 It is good to see so many families enjoying their Sunday morning football at our new home, the Wembley Sports Precinct. Keep in touch with us on our WEBSITE and Facebook Mothers Day A very big thank you to everybody who participated in our Mothers Day function. It was a great success and I m sure all Mums enjoyed their coffee and cake. Bogan Bingo - Friday, 10th June This is shaping up to be a Bogan Night! Get those flannelette shirts, ugg boots and mullets out of your cupboards for a great night of Bogan Fun. Tickets are still available, contact your team managers for more details. Flyer below. Team Photos Just a reminder that our team photos are on Sunday, 22nd May. See table below for times. Footy Under Lights this Friday This Friday May 20, Wembley Y5 Black will host our first WJFC contest under lights when they take on the Mosman Park Redbacks. Good luck boys. We are anticipating more night fixtures as the season continues. Stay tuned. Team Updates er The Year 1 ers have been divided into two team. This ensures the kids get to do more skill rotations, play with their school friends and have a fun morning learning more about our great game. Big thanks to all our coaches for the terrific start to the season. The Year 2 ers are off to a flying start under the expert guidance of Coach Rob and Coach Alex! They are enjoying their skills sessions however not quite as much as they enjoy their hotly contested matches! There has been a noticeable improvement in skill level and game play since Year 1. Coach Rob and Coach Alex appreciate the parent help they are receiving to assist with the season and look forward to this continuing for the rest of the season. The Year 3 ers have started the season well, with the first four weeks comprising skills sessions and games between the two sides (Wembley White and Wembley Black). All 31 boys (plus Molly) are adjusting well to the new hand tackle and all are looking forward to week 5 when our home and away fixtures begin. Year 4 White Year 4 White have started the 20 season with fantastic teamwork and great skills. The boys are loving playing big boy footy and the dads are enjoying their weekly get together, sharing sideline banter and reliving former glories! Year 5 Our Year 5 "Derby" on Mothers Day was a tight affair and enjoyed by both teams. Good luck to Y5 Black playing their first game under lights this Friday against the Mosman Redbacks and to Y5 White at home to Subiaco. Year 9 Wembley/West Coast have started the season with 3 good wins. The newly combined team is coming together well and is playing great football.

Girls Team For the 2nd season we have a team competing in the Northern Conference Junior Girls Competition on Friday afternoons. Lee Stringer is again our coach with Ashara Wills returning as our female scholarship coach thanks to the Claremont District. Training is underway and the eight round competition begins on May 27 at Newman College Oval with Marist JFC hosting. Six clubs are taking part this year with all indications this competition will expand next season. Our club is hosting Round 6, on Friday, July 1 from 4.30-6.00pm. The canteen will be open with a sausage sizzle. Let s get down there to support. Special thanks to Karen Tighe for securing the funding for the Girls Footy Jumpers through the Maccas Grant. Well done. Year 7 Melbourne Trip This is a big year for the Year 7 boys and the year 7 parents. As per club tradition the Yr 7 team embarks on a long weekend to the home of football, Melbourne in early August. In order to assist the boys to get there and enjoy the sights the Year 7 parents run the club canteen for the season. Paul and Tasmin Foster have taken on the task of running the canteen and have prepared and served up hundreds of hot dogs and egg and bacon rolls in the first three rounds of the season. I have made myself personally available to test the quality of the egg and bacon rolls each Sunday morning and so far they are 10/10.. and only likely to get better with practice. It s the best cure for an early Sunday morning in town! Jo Parker is heading up our Melbourne Trip efforts and is being well assisted by Craig and Shuan Ginbey pulling together the fund raising raffle. There will be 400 raffle tickets available for sale and the winner will receive a trip for two to the AFL Grand Final including including flights, transfers and accomodation and a Grand Final breakfast. This prize is valued at more than $5,000. Make sure you give yourself a chance to win! The boys are very excited about the Melbourne trip. I will continue to update you throughout the season. Marc McCallum - Player Milestones Congratulations to the following players on reaching 50 Career Games with the Wembley Junior Football Club: Nicholas Everett Brennan, Year 8 50 games Finlay Williams, Year 10 50 games Daniel Jones, Year 8 51 games Max Ryan, Year 8 51 games Mitchell D Esterre, Year 8 52 games
