Big thanks to all our coaches for the terrific start to the season. The Year 2 ers are off to a flying start under the expert guidance of Coach Rob and Coach Alex! They are enjoying their skills sessions however not quite as much as they enjoy their hotly contested matches! There has been a noticeable improvement in skill level and game play since Year 1. Coach Rob and Coach Alex appreciate the parent help they are receiving to assist with the season and look forward to this continuing for the rest of the season. The Year 3 ers have started the season well, with the first four weeks comprising skills sessions and games between the two sides (Wembley White and Wembley Black). Girls Team For the 2nd season we have a team competing in the Northern Conference Junior Girls Competition on Friday afternoons. Lee Stringer is again our coach with Ashara Wills returning as our female scholarship coach thanks to the Claremont District. Training is underway and the eight round competition begins on May 27 at Newman College Oval with Marist JFC hosting. Six clubs are taking part this year with all indications this competition will expand next season. Our club is hosting Round 6, on Friday, July 1 from 4.30-6.00pm. The canteen will be open with a sausage sizzle. Let s get down there to support. Special thanks to Karen Tighe for securing the funding for the Girls Footy Jumpers through the Maccas Grant. Well done. Year 7 Melbourne Trip This is a big year for the Year 7 boys and the year 7 parents. As per club tradition the Yr 7 team embarks on a long weekend to the home of football, Melbourne in early August. In order to assist the boys to get there and enjoy the sights the Year 7 parents run the club canteen for the season. Paul and Tasmin Foster have taken on the task of running the canteen and have prepared and served up hundreds of hot dogs and egg and bacon rolls in the first three rounds of the season. I have made myself personally available to test the quality of the egg and bacon rolls each Sunday morning and so far they are 10/10.. and only likely to get better with practice. It s the best cure for an early Sunday morning in town! Jo Parker is heading up our Melbourne Trip efforts and is being well assisted by Craig and Shuan Ginbey pulling together the fund raising raffle. There will be 400 raffle tickets available for sale and the winner will receive a trip for two to the AFL Grand Final including including flights, transfers and accomodation and a Grand Final breakfast. This prize is valued at more than $5,000. Make sure you give yourself a chance to win! The boys are very excited about the Melbourne trip. I will continue to update you throughout the season.
