This will involve many areas of curriculum, especially History, Art and Design. We are looking forward to commemorating WW1 by creating a permanent display of hearts upon which we hope the children will record special thoughts and memories. If you have any family members or stories about relatives who were alive in WW1 please do share these with your children. There is also a variety of other events during that week. Owls and Owlets are to be visited by the Mimika Theatre, Reception Year 2 are planning to visit the New Forest Wildlife Centre to support their study of animals described by the author Beatrix Potter and Years 3-8 are to visit Portsmouth Remembrance Centre for a morning in the trenches. A letter requesting your consent has been emailed to you. This busy week will be followed by the Art Exhibition in the Hampson Centre where children s work will be displayed from 19 to 23 February 2018. We hope that you will be able to visit and see all the work. Many thanks. Christina Tupper
Animal Care On Monday and Wednesday this week, the Owls children learned all about being a Vet, thanks to the wonderful staff at Cathcart & Winn Veterinary Clinic. Nurse Rachel introduced us to Russell the toy dog and the children had great fun pretending to listen to his heartbeat with the stethoscope, and even had a go at listening to their own heartbeat! Nurse Rachel then showed us around the consultation room, operating theatre, X-ray and dental rooms and the recovery cages, before the children tried out the scales to see how much they weighed. A fun time was had by all. A big thank you again to all the staff! Jo King
Forest faces The children in Reception were very busy in Forest School this week making these fantastic faces on the tree trunks. They collected lots of different natural materials and arranged them on the clay which they had pressed onto the tree. Each face had its own character. The children talked about their face and the materials they had used to the rest of the group before having a well deserved hot chocolate around the fire. Melanie Lewin
The children in Year 1 enjoyed a fun-filled morning at the Look Out Discovery Centre, Bracknell, on Thursday. A wide range of hands-on exhibits allowed the children the opportunity to explore our current Science topic, Forces in Action. They also made the most of the chance to revisit previous topics of learning in the Body and Perception zone and the Colour and Light zone. It was really pleasing to note how much the class had remembered and to watch them seeing these concepts brought to life in brand new ways. Centre staff member, Alison, presented a show about forces to us. She was impressed with what the children already knew and, with plenty of audience participation, she demonstrated some big ideas in effective ways. The highlight of the show was, of course, when Mrs Gibling was chosen to sit on a seat of nails! You will be relieved to know that she was not the least bit hurt! If you have a friend in Year 1 then perhaps you could ask them to tell you why! Emma Johnson
