ECWGG OFFICERS President: Jeanne Kosanovic FAIRWAY NEWS JULY 2018 Vice President: LeeAnn Mattison Secretary: Carolyn Curtis Treasurer: Jerri Henry Days Play: Candy Matsukado Bonnie O Reilly Pati Schmitt Handicap: Linda Kelly Golf Governor: Michelle Kelly By-laws Chairperson: Gail Steinmetz!!!! Presidents Message You must have noticed the nice clock that ECWGG purchased by now! It s hung on the outdoor restroom near the lady s door at the Ridge Course. The board just approved the purchase of the plaque which will be placed near the clock to remember our members who have passed away. There is now a Budget link on our website where our budget is published. I just posted our actual-to-date numbers as well. Our website URL is: www.ecwgg.com For the upcoming Partner s Tournament, I am working with Rick at the Greenside Café to offer a salad special (where we can pre-order/pay on Tuesday the 24th) for after the second day of the tournament, Thursday, July 26 th. Mary Inman made the suggestion to have everyone hang around after the tournament is done to socialize/brag/congratulate/eat lunch together! I will send out an email once this is finalized. Some big events are occurring in July: July 10 EC will be hosting Team July 17 Our annual Whine & Wine event (sign up was just posted) July 24 & 26 Our Partner s Tournament July 31 Mixer with the Men s Group ECWGG hosts Ron and Kevin are working on an Exchange Day for membership holders at EC to play at Tetherow in August. I will send out an email once this is finalized. I will post a sign up sheet on our bulletin board at the Ridge Course once all the details have been worked out. Seems like the summer is going by so quickly! See you on the course... Jeanne.......................1

Many of you have already met your minimum check the Eligibility Tracker list on the Ridge bulletin board to see your progress. For the Partner s Tournament there is a 10-shot maximum handicap difference allowed between partners. If the difference is greater than 10, the higher handicap will be adjusted downward. Additionally, the team handicap for Chapman (Day 1) is derived from 60% of the lower handicap and 40% of the higher handicap. COMING SOON GHIN POSTING BY DAY S PLAY!! Starting July 10, ECWGG Tuesday Play Day scores will be posted by the Day s Play team. You will no longer post these scores (similar to the process for tournaments). Eclectic by Dianne Rogers Eclectic Course- Pick up your ball or not? The RESORT course is our eclectic course this year. Page 6 of your ECWGG handbook states, if you pick up your ball on a hole, you MAY NOT use that score on that hole. I know many of us tell our foursome to pick up, because that ball will not contribute to the team game. IF this is the case PLEASE record your Equitable Stroke Control, (ESC) score with an X by that number. When I calculate your eclectic score at the end of the season, this score will not be used. What about picking up on the Ridge or Challenge course? If it s a game hole, a hole that counts toward the game for that day- DO NOT pick up your ball! Play it out. If the hole does not count toward the game, you can play to your ESC and score with an X by that number. In addition, if you are a new player and are in the process of establishing a handicap, it is very important to count every stroke in order to establish an accurate handicap to begin with. DO NOT pick up your ball! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask Dianne Rogers or Linda Kelly. Congratulations to our June Birdies: June 5 th - Resort Course June 12-Challenge Course Dawn Duby-#9 Scramble format: No birdies Carolyn Curtis-#10 Carole Loving-#9 Ginger Brooks- #7 & #16 Patty Scott-#12 June 19 th - Resort Course Sue Jenkins-#12 Corinne McKean-#7 Kathleen Mooberry-#3, #7, #12 Candy Matsukato-#10 Gail Steinmetz-#3 Dawn Duby-#10 June 26-Resort Course No birdies CONGRATULATIONS to Janet Owens! She got a hole-in-one on The Challenge Course, Thursday, June 21 st on number 16. Lola Solomon and Raydene Heitzhausen were the lucky players to witness Janet s 2 nd hole- in-one. Great playing, Janet!........................!3

Social Event News The 2018 Wine & Whine Cup Tournament Will the Pinot Gris make it three in a row or will the Pinot Noir rise to the challenge and take home the 2018 Solheim Wine & Whine trophy? Only you can influence the outcome by signing up and playing in this year s Wine Cup tournament! This year s Wine & Whine Cup is scheduled for Tuesday, July 17, 8:00 am shotgun on the Ridge. The past 2 years have been so much fun and a great opportunity to get to know other club members and understand how the Solhiem Cup works. All you need to do is sign up at the next two Tuesday golf days and pay your $7 to cover the cost of the luncheon & wine. You can also sign up on the club bulletin board anytime between now and July 10th at the Ridge club house and place your check in the Wine Cup Manila envelope at the desk. If paying cash, place cash in one of the small white envelopes provided inside the Manila envelope being sure to sign your name on the outside of the white envelope. We really want to encourage the new members to sign up and enjoy. There have been 50+ members playing in each of the past two Wine Cups and we hope this year will be no exception. So, get out your Red or White shirt to be ready when the teams are announced. Remember, you are only playing against a club member who is the same level handicap as yourself. After golfing, we will be gathering at the home of Bobbie Haas (8840 Eagle Crest Blvd) for lunch and to Wine & Whine. Golf, Lunch, Wine & Friendship= a beautiful combination!!!! Should you have any questions or concerns please give Carol Flinn, Bobbie Haas or Sandee Martin a call. We want everyone to be at ease with the upcoming club golf activity. Rules Report by Judy Soeten Our Board of Directors has requested a rule of the week - learning tip be presented at check in for Day's Play. As Rules Chairperson, I look forward to this opportunity. We are currently establishing the most efficient method to present this learning tip. In the meantime I suggest you keep your USGA Rules of Golf booklet within handy access in your golf bag. Also, as a discipline during the month of July, if we all read the definitions we will have a much greater understanding of our game and the rules. I will continue to work with our pro shop in order to have a professional Q and A presentation.........................!7
