Coronado High School 2018-2019 Cheer Team Cheer Try-Outs - May 23 & 24, 2018: 3-6 pm - CHS Gym No family or friends will be allowed at the clinic/tryouts. All material for tryouts will be taught at the cheer clinic. Notification of the cheer team for the 2018-2019 school year will be posted via Facebook and on the front door of the school on during the evening on May 24 th. Decision regarding Varsity and JV will be announced on Jun 8 th. Contracts agreeing to the team in which you have been placed are due by 10 th of Jun, 2018. Expectations Conduct Discipline: The purpose of the cheer squad at Coronado High School is to promote school spirit, support various organized sports, and provide positive leadership in all aspects of school life. We will have two squads: Junior Varsity (JV) and Varsity. It is expected that both squads will compete. Sportsmanship is our top priority. You will be expected to respect all members of this team, other teams, your Coach, Teachers and Administration at ALL times. It is our goal that involvement with this program will develop each athlete s character, and skill level all while instilling a great work ethic and teaching responsibility. You will be expected to represent CHS and this community to the very best of your ability. You will not be permitted to use profanity or display any obscene gestures at practice, games, performances, on social media, or any team functions at any time. The use of any controlled substances (alcohol, tobacco, drugs, etc.) is strictly prohibited. If pictures appear on social media, conversations are overheard, or I deem your actions as questionable, you will be immediately suspended from the team. A meeting with your parents will determine if expulsion will occur. Any form of harassment or hazing behaviors will result in immediate Expulsion from the team. You will be required to work closely with your teammates and appreciate their talents and strengths. You will be expected to help one another and build team unity. Gossip and destructive behavior will not be tolerated. Academic Eligibility: All Cheerleaders must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA, and have no F s on report cards. If grade requirements are not met, athletes will be placed on academic probation. The Coach and Advisor will monitor the academic progress for eligibility. Probation is only offered to each athlete ONCE during the school year. If an athlete gets placed on probation, she/he is still an active member of the team. She/he will not be able to participate/perform in any school related event or competition, but will be expected to be present at all events and practices with the team. She/he must meet the same responsibilities of any team member regarding: absences, tardiness, rules and responsibilities. Practices: Practices will be held approximately 2-3 times per week during the school year. Practices will usually run about 2-3 hours. As important events/competitions arise, additional practices may be added accordingly, however advanced notice will be provided for planning purposes. All athletes are expected to show up to every practice fully prepared with ALL gear. Jewelry is NOT allowed to be worn at practices.
No eating or chewing gum at practices and performances. Fingernails, including artificial nails, must be kept at an appropriate length for safe participation. The use of cell phones will NOT be allowed during practice. ALL practices are mandatory and tardiness is unacceptable. *******Please schedule all nonemergent appointments, test make-ups, tutoring sessions, and any other commitment of this nature around our scheduled practice times. If there are extenuating circumstances, I will need to be notified by a parent or guardian to determine if your absence will be excused. Excessive absences will result in suspension from performances and potentially the team. School Attendance: All cheerleaders must attend school. If you are absent from school you CAN NOT practice. Transportation: District transportation may not be provided to events. Parents are responsible for transporting his or her cheerleader to and from events. Students are not allowed to drive themselves or anybody else to any events. Excused Absences: Family emergencies. Illnesses (parent must email or call to verify). Pre-arranged trips or events that have been excused by the Coach Unexcused Absences: Regular doctors appointments (i.e. check-ups, dentist appointments, immunization shots). These types of non-emergent appointments should be made on non-practice days and will be Unexcused. Drivers tests Family dinners (birthdays or otherwise) Communication: Cheerleaders will handle cheer business with the coach. They will contact and communicate with the coach regarding issues, absences, questions, responsibilities, etc. All communication with the coach(s) regarding practices, performances, events, and games will be handled directly with the cheerleader. In addition, information will be posted to Facebook as well as weekly emails for upcoming events. Parents Booster Club and Executive Board: The purpose of the parents booster club and executive board is primarily to raise money for the program. The coach will structure, manage, and coach all aspects of the team. ***Final Note: If you quit or are removed from the team prior to completion of the season, you will not be eligible for tryouts in the following season. ***Exception: If you are removed for grade ineligibility and meet the requirement by the following tryouts, you may tryout again.
PERMISSION AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY I, the undersigned, am the parent and/or legal guardian of (herein after referred to as my child ). First / Middle / Last Name On behalf of my child, I understand, agree, and consent to the following: PERMISSION My child has my permission to try out for the Coronado High School Cheer Team 2018-2019 season. Furthermore, if selected, my child has my permission to participate as a Team member from May 2018 through March 2019. I understand the responsibilities of a Cheerleader, as well as the rules and regulations established and set forth in the information given which I have read and understand in its entirety. I will assist in every possible way to ensure that our child abides these rules and regulations. RELEASE OF LIABILITY / ASSUMPTION OF RISK Coronado High School may not be able to provide transportation to events for the cheer team. I am willing to assist with transportations when necessary. Coronado High School, its agent, its employees, its advisors and its coaches assume no responsibility for any accident, incident, injury, or damages that might occur or arise on campus or away from Coronado High School property, during practice, performance or any event, during travel to or from any event, or as a result of my child s participation on the Cheer Team. On behalf of my child, to the fullest extent permissible by applicable law, I hereby release and hold harmless Coronado High School, its advisors, its coaches, its agents, and its employees from any and all liability for any accident, injury, or damages that might occur or arise at or away from Coronado High School property, during practice, during any event, during travel to or from any event, or as a result of my child s participation on the Cheer Team. Each participant must obtain his or her own medical or health insurance and provide proof of such medical or health insurance. My child assumes all risks of injury and damages that may arise as a result of his or her participation on the Cheer Team, which I, and my child recognize is a competitive and physically demanding sport. Participants can reduce the chance of injury by obeying all safety rules, immediately reporting all physical problems to their coach and advisor, and following a proper conditioning program. Even if all of these requirements are met, I understand the possibility that an injury may still occur.
