September 2016 Issue 324 Royal Update e-newsletter of the Royal Rosarians Greetings, Rosarians and Friends, Thanks for reading this issue of the e-newsletter of the Royal Rosarians produced by Duke Peter Glazer, Sir Knight Tom Marantette and Sir Knight Norb Murray. If you have suggestions or contributions for the Royal Update, please contact Tom (tjm@atiyehbros.com) or Peter (pkglazer@aol.com).. Washington State Autumn Leaf Festival September 23-25 The Autumn Leaf Festival celebrates the turning colors of the Autumn leaves and is Leavenworth's original festival, originating in 1964 when the City of Leavenworth adopted the Bavarian theme. This weekend includes a Friday Formal Night, a Saturday Rose Planting at 9:00 a.m. followed by the Grand Parade at noon. Enjoy a stroll and shopping in town before the Fun Night, Bavarian-style! The Enzian Hotel is the official site for this Bavarian celebration and it is important to make reservations now because it fills up fast. Check out more details at the Autumn Leaf Festival website at http://autumnleaffestival.com/ or contact Don Thacker with questions. image: one need only travel north to the state of Washington to get a great taste of Bavaria. The buildings, the costumes and the food will make you think you have taken a trip to Europe. click here to see event on Rosarian website

2016 Group Photo Prime Minister's Ball New Prime Minister Jim Stahl and his First Lady Geneane wave to the sold out crowd at the Red Lion Hotel at Jantzen Beach this past Saturday evening. Newly installed Royal Regent Rick Saturn receives his cape from Duke Bob Woody. The audience gave Rick a standing ovation in appreciation for a job well done. Can you see the look of relief on his face? Rick and Marie Saturn present newly installed Prime Minister Jim Stahl and First Lady Geneane with the Loving Cup. This has been a timehonored tradition in the Rosarians since 1953 when then Prime Minister Donald Sloan started the tradition after witnessing the ceremony on a trip to England.

When the official ceremonies were complete, dinner and dessert had been served, the dancing began. Disk Jockey Dave Child provided the music and Rosarians of all shapes and sizes showed off their rhythmic abilities. The dance floor was full until the end. Plaque Laying and Rose Planting A Great Day In the Park As you can see, Rosarian participation at the Prime Minister's Plaque Laying Ceremony and Rose Planting was outstanding. As usual the Park was in great shape and the weather was ideal. New Prime Minister Jim Stahl unveils the permanent plaque that will mark his reign in Royal Rosarian history. First Lady Geneane looks on with great pride. VIP Greeting by Pat Maberry On Labor Day morning 16 Rosarians and spouses were at the airport to greet the new Mayor of Sapporo, Japan. In addition, several

Portland Sapporo Sister City Association members joined us for the greeting. Our own special guest was former First Lady Kyoko Aizawa, widow of 1998 Prime Minister Dr. Hideaki Aizawa. The Honorable Akimoto Katsuhiro was very pleased and most gracious at the presentaton of the certificate and roses given to accompanying staff. Mayor Katsuhiro gave his own greeting speech, thanking us for taking the time to provide him such a wonderful greeting. He presented Rick, James, and Jeff Mandel, the Royal Rosarian liaison to the Sister City Association, special gifts and gave beautiful cards to the other Rosarians attending.
